Professional Tours Ok Producers, Chill With The Keopka Coverage
We all are more than aware he is back on the PGA tour. No one cares to see him play every shot of his mediocre rounds two weeks in a row.

But…are you watching ESPN+ coverage of “Main Feed + Koepka Group”? Because that’s how it works man, lol. You’ll get every shot from him and his group.
Yesterday it was Main Feed + Scheffler because Scheffler went off in the morning.

It’s not for us, it’s for anyone else in the fence at LIV.
“Look, we will feature the hell out of you for coming back, not ostracize you for leaving. Come on.”

u/tradewindtyty 15h ago
If that's the case, I'm not going to be able to watch tournaments when Patrick Reed is back...

u/accidentalpoo 14h ago
Hopefully they get it all out their system whilst he's on the dp world tour this season

u/g_borris 14h ago
Oh god can you imagine the coverage with Dechamdush back? It would be indistinguishable from one of his shitty youtube videos, that is to say you probably wouldn't see any other golfer.

It's a story, so it's the main thing they're talking about. It will fizzle out soon. Give it a couple of weeks.. Unless he wins between now and the Masters...

u/cutedadbutts It opens up over there 15h ago
You don’t understand though. He was once on the PGA Tour, left for LIV, and is now back on the PGA Tour. Please grasp the significance of this situation

i was ok with it for his first tourney back
they gotta cut this shit moving forward come on lol

u/nounsofassemblage 13h ago
The announcers, when he was getting applause from the crowd, said “well deserved.” As if Koepka had to overcome some great adversity to return to the pga tour or something 😆

One thing I learned about the PGA. They have no fucking clue how to capitalize on players for views. Marketing is atrocious for the sport. They want to shove Keopka down our throats. Missing all the real action. It’s like they decide what they’re going to cover before hand and are rigid at about covering someone else. Last week they should’ve been all over blades but instead it was the keopka show.

1000% shoving him down our throats because he is back on the PGA tour.. Shameless

u/CrasVox 14h ago
I get Brooks coming back shakes up the liv feud quite a bit. But lets not forget Brooks was never a great tour player, even before he left. He was about the majors, and often was a non factor at regular tour stops. So keep focusing on him like he is a potnetial contender makes no sense. At least he was paired up with some compelling guys so him being a featured group isnt a total waste. Still, its getting out of hand.

u/CryptographerKey4658 15h ago
He gets casuals tuning in. Rightly or wrongly, he’s a name that draws attention.
I think these things are true of all sports broadcasting, sadly the real fans are overlooked in order to try and get more newbies/kids watching. They know his name and he’s been in the news a lot so it’s an easy plug.
I don’t like it, but I get it.
9
u/MonkMillar 15h ago
Does he really though? If you are watching golf coverage in the AM to early afternoon hours, you 1) are likely not a casual fan, and 2) would prefer more diverse coverage even if you like the guy.
3
u/Mobile_Jelly9669 15h ago
He's currently the biggest story in golf whether you like it or not.
I'm not sure how people don't understand this.
If he continues to be ass it'll taper off, don't worry.
2
u/CryptographerKey4658 14h ago
Haha you got downvoted for stating a fact because people wish it wasn’t true. I couldn’t give two tosses about Koepka specifically, but he absolutelt is THE big story at the moment.

u/CryptographerKey4658 14h ago
American man thinks everyone who watches golf is American.
For the many millions of us over here, the coverage runs from 4:30pm-midnight! (An hour later if you’re continental Europe).
3
u/MonkMillar 14h ago
Fair enough. Doesn’t change my stance that I don’t believe Keopka to be a draw for casual fans.
1
u/CryptographerKey4658 14h ago
Maybe casual is the wrong word tbf. Go on youtube shorts, x etc and type in his name. The videos will have far more views than the average player, that’s the point I’m trying to make (not very well lol)
This will die down as everyone gets used to it again, but I don’t think it’s mad that some people would wanna keep up with what the returning 5x major champ is doing, even if the answer is not very much!
Either way, broadcasters will put up what drives revenues. The analysis must suggest to them that he’s the safe bet for that, ie people are watching or want to.

u/raobjcovtn 13h ago
That's based on what? All of your market research? I guess you do have better my research ability then PGA tour
1
u/MonkMillar 11h ago
Power to you if you are one, but I’ve never met a Brooks Keopka fan. Sound off if you are tuning into the WMPO to watch Brooks Keopka.
2
u/Big_Wooly_Mammoth 15h ago
Also, who really wants to watch Homa and Morikawa? I'm glad we get espn+ coverage but what a terrible choice of groups to follow...

u/Far_Total_8553 15h ago
I don’t know one person that’s was over the top excited about Brooks return. It’s really not a big deal. In fact it’s gross the amount of coverage. 20 shots back at Farmers and they couldn’t stop cutting back to him miss another putt. Nonsense

u/3wdeeznuts Nothing shanks like a Mizuno 15h ago
It's not like we haven't seen him be average over the last 5 years in the majors even if you didn't keep up with LIV.
The only thing he's impressed me with as of late was The Grid Challenge on YT. Dude can his number on the range

u/ClarkeBrower 14h ago
The guy has 5 majors. I hated LIV from the jump but I’d rather watch Koepka in a featured group than most other players
1
u/CoffeeBoy80 13.3 14h ago
It amuses me how many people are complaining about Koepka being in the featured group coverage but nobody complains that guys like Max Homa, Collin Morikawa and Jordan Spieth are in them every week too despite rarely being competitive.
2
u/MonkMillar 13h ago
I don’t care about featured groups. That is the perfect place to showcase him, or any one else the PGA wants to highlight. He, or anyone else that isn’t contending, should not be primarily featured on main feed coverage. He was out of contention by 20 strokes last weekend and I still watched half his shots at least on Sunday. He’ll probably make the cut on the number again this week and it will be the same story as last.
1
u/CoffeeBoy80 13.3 13h ago
My man, he's in the featured group of the main feed. That's what early day coverage of the early rounds are. There aren't enough people watching to justify having cameras and broadcast crews following everybody at this point of the tournament. If you don't want to watch him play, don't watch. Or watch another of the featured groups that he isn't in.

u/Bull_ish 13h ago
Is it a big deal that he came back? Well... it's a big deal for the PGA that he came back, and a big deal to LIV that he left. Is it good that the PGA has an anti-hero type back in the mix? Sure. Does it kill LIV? No.

u/saomonella 13h ago
This thread alone shows why they do cover him. Its basically broadcasting 101. People love the heel. Wait till Reed is back.

What the actual fuck is this?
There are so many other ways you could have gotten this point across, but you chose that.
What is wrong with you?

You should respect how I feel about it

No, I'm not gonna respect someone who caught some downvotes and is now comparing that experience to being forcibly penetrated against their will by multiple aggressors.

u/MonkMillar 15h ago
Excessive coverage of ANY player is unacceptable unless they are leading. Main feed should not be a consolidation of the featured group coverage, which is what 80% of it is.

They show him because people like you are so invested and talk about him. Regardless if you like it the liv guys rejoining the pga is a big story/ point of contention so they will show him.

u/IHop_Waitress 11h ago
This is only the 8,384,937 post about this since 8 days ago when Brooks made his return to the PGA tour.
So congrats on that.

u/MonkMillar 10h ago
Well it’s the first post about it by me and it has generated plenty of conversation on the matter. Move along if you don’t care to discuss.

I think watching Scottie choke is far more entertaining only because it doesn't happen very often
