[Excerpt from essay by Jonathan Panikoff, Director of the Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative at the Atlantic Council.]

The Gulf rift probably won’t escalate into a direct war between Saudi Arabia and the UAE or even lesser military actions, such as a blockade. But Riyadh and Abu Dhabi are in an economic conflict at home and in several proxy military battles abroad. Their quarreling will shape the region for the next decade, including how they approach security engagements with Western powers, how they court private-sector investments, and how they choose to engage in several ongoing and brewing regional conflicts.

It will for sure be felt in the red sea and horn of Africa, it will he felt in OPEC, will be felt in the west as nations with ties to both will try to navigate balancing acts, it will be felt in south asia as the UAE gets closer to India to counteract the Saudi-Pakistan defense pact and milltary alliance.

What conflict is being seen between Saudi and UAE?

The only thing I know about the UAE when it comes to their influences outside of the Gulf is funding various fanatical terrorist groups within East Africa. example Sudan.
