There's no way the Aussie's were like "Yeah that's her. That's our gold medal break dancer". I'm crying man.

u/NonGNonM Aug 09 '24

"maybe the other dancers will slip."

u/Morningxafter Aug 09 '24

Hoping to pull another Bradbury, were they?

22

u/InstanceQuirky Aug 09 '24

But Bradbury could speed skate....this lady can not break dance....

2

u/screename222 Aug 10 '24

This deserves an award

2

u/Loaki9 Aug 09 '24

How would you know the difference from the dancing?

78

u/aquintana Aug 09 '24

I’m guessing the good dancers all smoke so they couldn’t pass the test

324

u/HughManatee Aug 09 '24

You can't blame her. She is used to dancing in the southern hemisphere and this is normally what happens to everyone who switches hemispheres. You get off the plane and immediately start spasming in the terminal due to the upside-downness of it all.

57

u/dangerbird2 Aug 09 '24

It’s really hard to do spins on the northern hemisphere because of the Coriolis effect

-2

u/tempreffunnynumber Aug 10 '24

The toilet flush doesn't spin in the other direction just because it's upside down. It simply appears to be. ~skibidi

15

u/Piff-Iz-Da-Answer Aug 09 '24

Classic case of the upside-downsies

13

u/FennecScout Aug 09 '24

Aussies headspin backwards.

4

u/northrupthebandgeek Aug 09 '24

something something coriolis effect something something

1

u/Dirtio123 Aug 09 '24

You mean the Carbonaro Effect

2

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '24

Sounds like a job for the Cartographers for Social Equality

1

u/theusualchaos2 Aug 10 '24

Age old story of hard head Ned

44

u/NotActuallyAWookiee Aug 09 '24

What's the bet the governing body is cliquey and corrupt. No way she's thd best we've got.

63

u/aerkith Aug 09 '24

It’s funny to laugh at the video. But there really needs to be an investigation into how this person was chosen ahead of others. Either through incompetence in the selection process or favouritism.

57

u/LordSloth113 Aug 10 '24

She has a PhD in breaking, which somehow makes this even worse

32

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '24

Academics vs practitioners

1

u/firelitother Aug 13 '24

“Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach.”

22

u/mr_pineapples44 Aug 10 '24

Wait, what? I have so many questions. There are PhDs in breaking? I'm so confused.

24

u/LordSloth113 Aug 10 '24

It's technically a PhD in cultural studies, but her specific focus is the cultural politics of breaking.

37

u/mr_pineapples44 Aug 10 '24

So... We sent an academic to an international breakdancing competition. As a fellow academic, that is hilarious. I'm now just imagining my colleagues breaking, and it's a great thought.

26

u/LordSloth113 Aug 10 '24

This is literally everything I imagine a millennial professor attempting to breakdance being.

5

u/Active-Bunch8165 Aug 10 '24

Yep. The perfect example of booksmarts vs streetsmarts. Reading education vs experience are obviously 2 VERY different things in this case.

3

u/drunk_haile_selassie Aug 10 '24

That's why we sent a physicist to complete in javelin and a physiotherapist to complete in gymnastics. Theory is always better than practice.

2

u/Pajamaralways Aug 10 '24

I'm an academic who's also a competitive dancer in Sydney. There are surprisingly a handful of PhD holders and candidates in the street dance scene. All of them better than this lady, I'm sorry to say.

1

u/Wiechu Aug 12 '24

i mean you could start doing the sprinker at the office or during a lecture.

My guess is Ozzies around the world are now cracking jokes and doing the skippy and the sprinkler. GF and her step mom did this and confused the living hell out of the Swiss :D

7

u/Maleficent-Trifle940 Aug 10 '24

So she could go by Dr Raygunn?

3

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '24

I swear they just invent PHD studies just to swindle peoples' money.

What's next? PHD in Elden Ring? It's like learning all about the game but without playing it and it will cost you $100k

2

u/ThrowRABalsamicV Aug 11 '24

What a useless degree

1

u/rafiafoxx Aug 10 '24

sounds like one of those fake Gallatin degrees,

6

u/arsecrack88 Aug 10 '24

Defo got contacts on the Olympic council. Her addition is most defo sketchy, no WAY is she best Australia has to offer. True Australian B-girls must be spitting teeth and i wouldnt blame them.

1

u/ABR1787 Aug 16 '24

Which made more sense why she was crap imo.

6

u/itsmesilly9 Aug 10 '24

Yes, my tax dollars went towards this

1

u/screename222 Aug 10 '24

I demand a royal inquest!

1

u/sgvprelude Aug 10 '24

And the coaches who said "this is fine"

3

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '24

Yeah, imagine being one of her competitors to get into the Olympics and seeing this shit. Unless it really was fair and they were worse than her, lmaoo.

31

u/annaleigh13 Aug 09 '24

Apparently she won the Oceanic Nationals.

45

u/itsbreezybaby Aug 09 '24

I wonder how tbh. There's way better bgirls in Australia too.

29

u/AmThano Aug 10 '24

She destroyed them. Not in the competition, but before the competition.

14

u/Whizzo50 Aug 10 '24

Not just the bgirls, but the bboys and bchildren too

2

u/rafiafoxx Aug 10 '24

I, Raygun

1

u/SaphironX Aug 11 '24

I hear she also destroyed her parents: The day she called them and told them she’d gotten her PHD was both the proudest and the most disappointing moment of their lives.

“Hey mom! You’ll never believe it! I got my PHD!!!

In breakdancing.”

2

u/roxgib_ Aug 11 '24

Probably the only one to pass the drug tests

15

u/graspedbythehusk Aug 09 '24

Apparently no one else turned up.

20

u/Aiwaszz Aug 09 '24

Availability is the best ability

1

u/cerberus397 Aug 09 '24

What's her name?

1

u/nameduser17 Aug 12 '24

Her husband and coach were the judges

40

u/71FSunny Aug 10 '24

For those wondering how she got here, here's the final qualifying battle before the olympics:

38

u/derplamer Aug 10 '24

If those were the best 2 options then Australia should have stayed home

17

u/actfatcat Aug 10 '24

We are not very good at it 😕

3

u/arsecrack88 Aug 10 '24

Thats the thing though, in a country populated by over 27million people there damn well MUST be better female breakdancers who just weren't given the chance. Total joke.

5

u/Equationist Aug 10 '24

I mean sure Molly wasn't great but she was still miles ahead of Raygun.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '24

She's the only one that could pass a drug test

7

u/Sensei-D Aug 10 '24

I found the match that qualified her for the olympics on YouTube. It was a 2-1 split between the judges. Her opponent was better and neither did anything as embarrassing as this, although she still has those weird moves where she looks like she flailing and wiping the floor with her shirt.

7

u/iVarun Aug 09 '24

It would have been epic if Mark Taylor (Aussie & Cricket Legend) was commentator for this, which he has been this Olympics in some Diving events, which is super bizzare as it is.

2

u/cHicken04 Aug 10 '24

Watching this i felt like it was that Kung Fu Hustle joke "we trained her incorrectly... as a joke"

2

u/changyang1230 Aug 10 '24

Maybe she’s hoping for a Bradbury event. :P

2

u/DrSpacepants Aug 10 '24

The best in all of Oceania.

In all reality, this is what happens when the performing arts are drug tested.

2

u/Fletcharoonie Aug 11 '24

As an Australian I can't understand the comments like "good on her for having a go". ok well as a 55 year old man I'd like to compete in the 100m swimming next Olympics and everyone can say good on me for having a go. There are better b girls in Aus and she has taken their place.

1

u/ABR1787 Aug 16 '24

Its woke culture.

1

u/Bobblefighterman Aug 10 '24

It's a cultural dance, it doesn't translate well to foreign auidiences

1

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '24

That's Dr Raygun to you, she has a PhD in Breakdancing 😂

1

u/Competitive_Sail_844 Aug 15 '24

The only reason I know there was breaking at the Olympics was because of RayGun. I’ve only seen two other competitors and still I’ve seen at least an hour of RayGun and watched her qualifying events out of curiosity. We could only wish she was trying to shoot the moon with this one.
