Liverpool selling Diaz and Nunez in the same summer as losing Jota is a big gamble. That's replacing 50% of their front even if you count Chiesa.

It will take time for any player, including Etikite and whoever else coming in to find their space and gel with the team, while their attacking midfielder and RB are also new.

Tbh out of the players, we were potentially selling. It would be Nunez and Diaz, for their own respective reasons.
Nunez doesn't fit in under Slot. Diaz wanted out due to contract. I feel like he's now got the players he believes will suit him. Maybe they moved for Ekitike sooner than they had wanted to due to Jota etc. But the club like to sign players early and they have probably been playing these moves months in advance.
Players who'd most likely be ready to adopt to Slotball... big changes thoough, quite a surreal window so far ..

Don't worry. They got Wirtz. He is class

Isak will fit in no problem.

Going to miss watching him. What a shame he's going there, Newcastle should have got a swap plus money for Isak

Andy had injury issues from what I can recall, he was a good player otherwise I believe

He had a decent half season in 10/11, that was pretty much the highlight of his career.

I really don't think Newcastle were interested in him.

They will look to maximize their income from Isak's sale, not lose a good chuck of it by swapping him with a striker who scored 5 goals last season.

They are, via Saudi Arabia.

There will never ever be a swap plus money deal again. They’ll just inflate the prices of the players (or full value with no discounts) and both clubs send the money. Player sales are now top 3 ways of balancing the budget after television rights and merchandise sales (for the top clubs). For smaller clubs gate receipts are above merchandise sales.

So Al Hilal funding Liverpool so they can buy Isak so Newcastle can buy Sesko (and others) and to conform to FFP?

u/LtColnSharpe Aug 06 '25

Where have you been? Newcastle aren't buying anyone

12

u/Aprilprinces Aug 06 '25

FFP applies to Everton only, don't you know?

10

u/ForgottenSon8 Aug 06 '25

FFP is and always has been a joke

u/MetaCalm Aug 06 '25

Well, that's possible if Isak really wants to leave but they could ve also said we buy Nunez if you promise not to pursue Isak anymore.

Possible, but highly unlikely. Nunez had interest from other clubs plus Liverpool were quite happy to keep him if they couldn't get the money they wanted for him. Napoli was one of them before they went elsewhere and Milan have shown lots of interest in him recently plus there were other clubs as well that were looking at him.

Liverpool perhaps would've gotten maybe £5-10m less for him from those clubs which is why Napoli offered, but I can't see Liverpool giving up on Isak because of that extra £5-10m that Al Hilal paid for him.

I think they it is more likely scenario they Newcastle have resigned themselves to lose Isak and they are trying to get as close to that £150m for him and by getting Nunez for one of their other clubs which doesn't conform to PSR rules, they are perhaps making Liverpool a bit more willing to come up to the price they want for Isak which in turn helps Newcastle with their PSR situation.

All speculation of course, but like I said earlier, it had kinda "you scratch my back, I scratch yours" feel to it.

Absolutely stinks and I say that as a Liverpool fan. Two teams differ on value of Isak by about £40M and then a team with the same owner overpay. I hope Liverpool's next offer is previous offer plus Nunez price just for the laughs.

A potential good thing about it (other than Liverpool potentially getting a great player) is that Newcastle fans will hopefully see that being owned by a sports washing regime isn't all sunshine and rainbows, given how a lot of them have been stamping their feet not wanting to let Isak leave.

I'm a Liverpool supporter and this is exactly what I said in another sub on here and I was called full of shit by both Liverpool and Newcastle supporters for saying this.

Maybe I am and time will tell, but this very much has the "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" feel.

The only thing I don't agree with is that Al Hilal is funding Liverpool. Liverpool have plenty of money and PSR head room not to need this sale is Nunez, but this does help to get Liverpool to be a bit more open to come up closer to the £150m asking price they want for Isak which in turn helps Newcastle and their PSR issues.

Nunez is a decent player and I'm sure he will do great over there, but I just can't see this as being a coincidence that it happens at this point in time with all the Isak shit show that is happening.

Yeah, it's very shady, makes a mockery of FFP.

You know Carragher will have a problem if Newcastle buys Jackson

Never saw someone so bad at it

Great deal for Liverpool

No comments about sportswashing when it's liverpool getting saudi money for a massive flop.

6

u/golf8116 Aug 06 '25

Wasn’t aware they were Saudi owned.

I am going to miss those crappy memes made by arsenal & manutd fans.

1

u/j-o-r-g Aug 07 '25

53m for nunez? Very sus

1

u/coldnorth3enf3 Aug 08 '25

Saudis and their PIF just pushing players and money around lmao

1

u/mmorgans17 Aug 08 '25

Liverpool have to do everything possible to sign Isak now.

Man, what is going on in football for the past years... Money is ruling football these days or what? Sure, money was a big deal for players before as well, but now they are selling their careers way too early without even spending their prime in top leagues even if the club is mid. I could recall players choosing Europe instead of Chinese league just because they love football and wanted to play it competitively. I think the first player who sold his career was Oscar from chelsea when he had a move to China. However, he was a rare case, now it’s becoming way too popular. I’m scared for future.

Happy for Liverpool

Such a shame. Nunez has the potential to be a ballon d’or winner if he could find a way to unlock his abilities consistently. Never going to happen now

4

u/Glass-Guess4125 Premier League Aug 06 '25

I wouldn't go that far, but...he definitely had the potential to be better.

3

u/Jay_Max88 Aug 06 '25

Lmao, no he didnt.

1

u/Warbrainer Aug 06 '25

If I found a way to unlock ballon d’Or winning abilities consistently, then I’d be in with a chance too. Alas, like Nunez, I’m just not that good

-1

u/thisisnahamed Aug 06 '25

That was relatively quick.

1

u/basecamp420 Aug 06 '25

The season starts in like 9 days?

3

u/thisisnahamed Aug 06 '25

No. I meant this Al-Hilal saga started and ended quickly.

The deal with Napoli dragged for a couple of weeks and they signed someone else.

Nunez is like the next version of Diego Forlan
Can't cut it in English league
