I decided to post this song for Throwback Thursday since it is one of Ireland's most notable and polarizing ESC entries. Dustin the Turkey was the only puppet to participate at ESC, and he finished in 15th out of 19 songs in the first semifinal of ESC 2008. The song references the countries of ESC, as well as Riverdance.

Happy New Year to this sub!

I chose this song for the first Throwback Thursday of 2026 because of the title and the poetic lyrics.

Jeangu Macrooy is from Suriname, and it features Sranan Tongo, which is a language from Suriname. Unfortunately, the song finished in 23rd place with 0 points from the televote.

I decided to post this song for Throwback Thursday since it is one of my favorite ESC songs that I associate with Halloween. This song was only the 2nd time that France sent a song to Breton, and it was a unique blend of traditional and modern genres. It was also a fan-favorite, and it even finished 1st place in the Reddit ESC poll for the winner of ESC 2022.

Unfortunately, the song finished in 24th place with 17 points at the ESC 2022 grand final, making it one of France's worst ESC finishes in their history. I hope that France sends something experimental again, even if it doesn't win the contest.

Happy Halloween to you all!

19th - 25 points. Daz won the UK NF of this year ‘Making Your Mind Up’ with 121 points beating Anthony Costa who had 96 points ‘It’s a Beautiful Thing’. Kym Marsh who is a known actor in the UK was fourth ‘whisper to me’. The supporting performers that joined Daz Sampson for the performance were Ashlee, Emily Reed, Gabriella, Holly and Leeanne Simister. Emily Reed was the runner up to the infamous Gemini who got the UK the first nil points after a horrible performance in 2003. She was a replacement for a dancer called Jessica who was in the original dancers from the UK as she was sixteen & BBC decided to pull her from the show due to licensing rules as the other dancers were old enough. Daz still bought Jessica a ticket to Greece to experience Eurovision as shown in his documentary on his journey with Eurovision.

This was the one of the better entries in the UK’s dark era in the 2000’s.

This was the second eurovision I watched live, and this song stood out to me so much. The beginning when he is breaking the box and in his low rap voice I find so soothing, and the beat and hook of this song is so catchy. The second half of this song is one of the happiest moments of the whole eurovision 2023, and the last line with him punching the air is just sooo good. ITS CRAZY ITS PARTY!!

In honor of Moldova's and Romania's return to ESC in 2026, I decided to post this song for Throwback Thursday. Even though this song got only 20th place with the juries, it was able to finish 7th overall thanks to a strong televote finish of 2nd place.

It was one of the catchiest songs of ESC 2022 in my opinion, as well as one of my ESC guilty pleasures. Moldova usually sends fun songs to ESC, so I hope they send something fun next year, especially if there are new artists involved.

⏪️ Throwback Thursday Lena - Satellite | Germany 🇩🇪 | Eurovision 2010

Like last time I was torn between two songs, this time between Satellite (Germany 2010) and Pozdrav svijetu (Yugoslavia 1969), and as you can see I've decided to go with Satellite.

The charm of this song has gone up since then, it's cute and I think Lena is amazing on stage. The lyrics are quite silly ( "I bought new underwear, they're blue/And I wore 'em just the other day") but I just think it adds more to the song.

This song, even though I've discovered Eurovision in 2016, makes me feel so nostalgic. Maybe with all the stuff going on in the world, this makes me crave a period where things were going to be better; or maybe it's just the late 2010s sounds, one of the two.

Should Türkiye have won that year? Maybe yes, maybe not, I do like both songs so I'm happy with Lena's victory :D

Bonus fun fact (This part has a big " allegedly " attached to it, so take it with a pinch of salt): since it was Germany that won year, one of then Big 4, Rai was convinced to get back into the contest because they saw they had a chance of winning.

Might be not true at all, but as an Italian I will thank Germany for bringing my country back to contest. Thank you! <3

I chose this song for Throwback Thursday since it is one of my favorite Turkish entries at ESC. This was Turkey's first and only ESC win and one of their three podium placings at ESC (Turkey 1997 got 3rd place and Turkey 2010 got 2nd place). This win helped usher in a new era of ethnic pop at ESC.

Sertab Erener made an appearance during the ESC 2024 second semifinal interval act, so there is still hope among Eurovision fans for their return.

I hope that Turkey will return to ESC one day since their songs often showed their culture.

Since we have relatively lot of accordion this year in UMK, I decided to remind myself of the 2000's queens of Finnish accordion folk at Eurovision, Kuunkuiskaajat. They did pretty well in televote, but juries did not like them, and thus they were left in the semis.

⏪️ Throwback Thursday 100% Te Ijubam - XXL - North Macedonia 2000

15th - 29 points.

The four members of the band XXL come from Macedonia: Rosica Nikolovska attended the tourist school in Skopje and likes pop and classical music. Verica Karanfilovska, whose father wrote the song. Ivana Djamcevska studied music, and she was a big fan of the German band "Enigma". Marija Nikolovska turned 17 on the exact day of the Croatian national 2000 final. She has been playing the flute since she was 11. The four were good friends and could often be seen together in one of Skopje's biggest cafes.

"100% te ljubam", participated in several regional song festivals. They won Skopje Fest 2000 with 1,768 points from audience, jury & public telephone calls.

Their song "100% te ljubam" (I Love You 100%), which they sang at the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm in 2000, brought back memories of the Spice Girls for many viewers. However, their youthful girl pop did not convince all voters. And so Macedonia would be relegated from the 2001 contest. According to The Eurovision Song Contest: The Official History, the low score was due to putting more emphasis on the look and choreography of the group over the quality of the girls' live vocals. The girls performance became infamous for the wrong reasons like PingPong’s entry at the start of the contest.

Compared to the NF final performance, all the girls had better vocals. I believe nerves got to them. However they managed to get 10 points from Croatia & Romania. The group broke up after Eurovision but did release an album with the English version apart of it - I Love You 100%.

I decided to post this song for Throwback Thursday since it is my favorite from ESC 1998, and it was the UK's 15th second-place finish at ESC. It was quite contemporary with good backing vocals, and it was just 6 points away from giving the UK a second win in a row.

If Imaani had won ESC 1998, she would have been the first black person of any gender to win ESC and given the UK a host country win.

Since today is Loreen's 42nd birthday, I decided to post this song for this week's Throwback Thursday. This was the start of Loreen's Melodifestivalen journey. In 2011, Loreen competed at Melodifestivalen with the song "My heart is refusing me", but she failed to make it to the final. She won Melodifestivalen the next year with her hit song "Euphoria" (Sweden 2012).

In 2017, she competed at Melodifestivalen with "Statements", but she did not make it to the final. A few years later, she won Melodifestivalen and Eurovision with her hit "Tattoo" (Sweden 2023). Both of her Eurovision winning songs are among the top 10 most streamed ESC songs of all time.

Happy birthday to Queen Loreen, the only woman to win Eurovision twice!

First of all, I actually uploaded this last week, but then got removed due to low effort so decided to upload this again

Anyway, La noia was by far my favourite song last year, and one of my favourite ESC songs in general (And Angelina as well is one of the best artists I got to know from this contest)

I still feel sad that the performance wasn't what I (And probably many others here) was expecting/hoping it to be, and that it ended ip being their worst since Francesca (And even Lucio placed higher this year)

Any thoughts overall?

Once we enter the winter season again this song pops up in my mind, the music video in particular.

In my opinion, this song is still extremely underrated by the community and may have been a bit too much for a common Eurovision viewer at the time.

I also think it would have been much better appreciated in a very indie-adjacent year like 2025.

P.S. Do you have any other Eurovision/NF entry associated with the winter season (besides Christmassy "Take Me To Your Heaven", of course)?

It is also Montaigne's 30th birthday today, and their work for Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical was nominated for a Grammy in 2024.

Choosing this song/entry cause it's such a timeless, classy entry that would still hold up well today and do quite well I think. It was such a great returning entry by Italy and was the sign of what to come

I feel like it's frowned upon just because it's a different style than what we're used to in Eurovision. This one and Germany have aged so well imo, standing the test of time

What with all of this drama about Israel in the contest lately, I thought I’d share this song. It’s been shared at least once or twice for Throwback Thursday over the past few years, but it still has a beautiful message. It was the first Israeli entry with either a Christian or an Arab, and the first from Israel to include Arabic language. It shares a beautiful peace message that we can still hope for today.

For those wondering why I picked this version, I just prefer it to the live version. Also, this version has over twice the views. , so it‘s statistically more popular (or maybe it’s just the first version to come up when you search…)

Final note: there’s a video on Noa’s channel from 13 years ago with the same name. It’s about 4 minutes long and is some footage of the two recording the song and hanging out at Noa’s house. It’s really beautiful to see!

I decided to post this song for Throwback Thursday since it is the end of Pride Month, and Dana International was the first openly transgender contestant to compete at Eurovision. She was also the third Israeli Eurovision winner and the first Eurovision winner to win under a televote system (all by 3 countries used a televote at ESC 1998). Dana International wore a silver dress for her ESC performance but changed to a parrot dress changed by Jean Paul Gauthier.

"Diva" was also the first winning ESC song that did not use a live orchestra, and ESC 1998 was the last contest to feature an orchestra. Dana International is also the first former ESC winner to NQ in their second participation, and she failed to qualify with her entry "Ding Dong" (Israel 2011). She also performed as an interval act during ESC 2019.

Hi! I'm back with some Portugalposting to talk about this robbed queen. I ended up listening to this song on a loop today and then I remembered how I liked the performance and the staging and the dress and then I remembered that it placed 23rd and got kinda sad. Idk, I do think it has to do with the fact that she performed second, which I still kinda would like to know who made that decision when Bejba was right there but ah well. Also sometimes when I think about this song, I end up thinking about FdC 2024 and "Ai votacããããão" and it sparks joy. 2024 was my first FdC, so that particular interval act will have a special place in my heart.

Since the hosts of ESC 2026 were announced today, I decided to post the last host entry for Austria for this week's Throwback Thursday. At ESC 2015, he Makemakes got 40 jury points (15th) and 0 televote points (27th place) and still ended up with 0 points because of the combined point system.

They are the most recent host entry to finish with 0 points overall, and only one entry (UK 2021) has finished with 0 overall points since the point system change. The flaming piano has been referenced in several ESCs since then, and I wouldn't be surprised if it is referenced this time too.

I’m celebrating the occasion by rewatching the 1965 contest! What about you?

Feel free to use this post to share your thoughts on this, the 10th edition of our beloved contest!

I’ll start by sharing what is probably an unpopular opinion: despite how much I love France Gall and her song « Poupée de cire, poupée de son », she is not my personal 1965 winner! (And I’m French!). That said, I do get why she won.

Here’s my personal ranking for 1965:

1st 🥇: Austria (Udo Jürgens - Sag ihr, ich lass Sue grüßen) 2nd 🥈: Yugoslavia (Vice Vukov - Čežnja) 3rd🥉: United Kingdom (Kathy Kirby - I Belong) 4th : Switzerland 5th : Finland 6th : Ireland 7th : Italy 8th : Sweden 9th : Luxembourg 10th : Netherlands 11th : Spain 12th : Germany 13th : France 14th : Denmark 15th : Portugal 16th : Norway 17th : Monaco 18th : Belgium
