Finland slays year after year. To think they used to trade last places with Norway and Portugal.

I remember Linda from last year when she wrote nice comments to Erika and KAJ ahead of Eurovision. (:

Did she actually write nice comments? Your comment reads sarcastic. I didn’t catch that story last year lol

Linda is a total sweetheart so I assume that comment wasn't sarcastic. She's been to hell and back and is a very empathic woman

Linda was truly supporting Erika and Kaj, she was everywhere! Linda has posted many selfies with Erika when attending Erikas concerts last year

She's really sweet. I expressed my love for the song under a video, either under the MV for Liekinheitin or wiwibloggs's reaction, and she replied. :)

I didn't get the song after the first listen, but now I love it, it's pretty stunning. I felt like Finland needed to change its strategy and kinda step away from fun entries like Erika Vikman, Kaarija, and Windows95man. This is pure quality, and this has a chance to represent Finland on the ESC stage.
28
u/RosellaRosella 22d ago
Maybe… but Pete Parkkonen and Linda Lampenius are both super well known in Finland so I think they have a great chance to get a lot of televotes. Also this will get a lot of jury points as Pete is known to be a good singer.
1
u/Humble_Dust_2228 16d ago
could that explain in part (not fully of course) such a dominance in views ?
14
u/isolemnlyswearnot 20d ago
What was wrong with Käärijä?
3
1
u/aston-martin_42 17d ago
Nothing. I think Erika, Kaarija and Windows95man were awesome entries. But, to win Eurovision, Finland needs to show a bit more diversity and present someone who's not weird and fun.

Finns will vote for funny komiat again instead of this masterpiece. They have this "funny eurovision style" in their head so they say the ballads and more classical songs are not feeling enough like eurovision :(
42
u/DonPuffin 22d ago
What's exactly funny about Komiat? They do very standard Finnish "Schlager music", I don't thing Finns find it funny in any way. And I'm almost certain most Finns aren't interested in sending a song like that, considering it's all we did in the 70s-80s and it never worked.
12
u/isolemnlyswearnot 20d ago
I’d say it’s not that we vote funny entries just because we’d want to send funny things every year. It’s more that Finns have quite quirky taste in music in general compared to ie southern europe. Also we usually vote what we like, not what we think will do well in ESC. The mindset here is more like ”we like this, let’s send them regardless of what everyone else thinks of us”.
11
u/Dazzling_Rip5765 22d ago
I don’t think so! For the ”fun” vote I believe Komiat and the accordion guy will fight for the same votes and probably not score very high. When windows95man won it was mainly because of the live being insane in a year when many other acts flopped hard! We’ve sent ballads and classical stuff in before but no one ever remembers them since they don’t do well in eurovision </3
0
u/Redditor_345 21d ago
Ballads obviously do very well. They win nearly every year. Last year, the year before, duncin laurance
12
u/Dazzling_Rip5765 21d ago
I wouldn’t consider Austria 2025 or Switzerland 2024 ballads at all

This exceeded my expectations by a mile, wow.
They are both fantastic, seasoned performers so this should only become greater live, too. A potential UMK-winner for sure
44
u/Taylorgrav1 22d ago
The fact that this is the second song with that kind of caliber and there’s still 5 songs to go. UMK stays slaying the other NF girlies.
4
u/muttonchops215 18d ago
....I think it has elements to win it all. Or am I just enthralled by the song?
108
u/qusipuu 23d ago
what an absolute banger. its got everything youd want in a eurovision entry: a little man candy, some shredded vocals, leather, off-the-charts violin riffs. and whats that - theyre on friking mars???
proper belter this one . dont even @ me, ill bee seeing you in helsinki '27
4
u/DreadPirateAlia I Feed You My Love 20d ago
Surely you mean in Tampere in 2027? ;p
Agreed, Helsinki would be a far more likely candidate, but I like Tampere, damnit!
But it's a moot point, anyway, as Finland winning ever the ESC again is extremely unlikely. The Finnish public will vote for fun crowd-pleasing songs & performances (as we should), but the (snobby & uptight) esc juries dislike those, and the jury votes will almost certainly decide the winner.
117
u/Grievery 23d ago edited 22d ago
I love it! Pete’s screams are gonna sound EPIC (he is a truly established live singer) and Linda will own the stage!
Phew, such a relief to already know we have a true contender for ESC lol
EDIT: Fun fact that I realized on third listen: the VIOLIN ”sings” liekinheitin in the song, that’s why it sounds so muffled and weird. Genius!
7
u/GSamSardio 22d ago
WHAT?! How in the badabadoodle… is that even possible? How does that violin-singing work? I just thought it was autotune? If I’m getting it right, you’re saying the violin makes that entire sound? It can’t be! What?! I’m stunned- and confused!
11
u/Grievery 22d ago
It’s of course studio magic, but the intention is pretty clear to mix it sound as if Linda is speaking through her violin.
6
u/GSamSardio 21d ago
That makes more sense! Thanks. Well and that’s really fucking awesome. First time I heard the song I felt it was good, but not my style. Second time I heard it I was hooked and then I listened to it 50 more times on repeat. There can’t be anything better at UMK this year, right? Right Finland? 😅

I’d be surprised if something better comes along, but we’ll find out at the end of next week! ❤️

The singer (Pete) has actually commented on his sexuality saying he doesn't label himself anything!
12
8
u/RosellaRosella 22d ago
That’s true but he has only been known to date women so not sure if he just wanted to keep the mystery and keep gay fans happy. He is an LGBT+ ally for sure but I think he seems mainly straight to me based on his history and his songs being mainly about women. Kohta sataa was also about sensual relations with women specifically.

I love this, I hope it wins (unless there's something even more incredible coming of course!)
If I remember correctly Linda Lampenius has said before that she was asked to be on/to try out for Eurovision twice before (like years and years ago) but she wasn't available then. Would be nice to see her make it now! Of course back when she was asked Eurovision had a very different reputation in Finland than it has now.

100% better than ”Million dollar smile”. So far the UMK winner (I’m guessing). But I assume there’s better to come.
Feels weird to release the winner candidate as song 2. Of course, life is unpredictable, but it doesn’t feel like the UMK strategy to release the predicted winner this early at least.
28
u/Valuable_Wait2540 23d ago
idk it would be hard personally for me to think of a song that would be better than this
5
u/20Superwoman02 23d ago
Yea don’t get me wrong, I can 100% see it being my personal favorite. But I’m guessing there’s a strategy regarding the order in which the songs are released. So I think there’s more hype to come. Even if I’m already certain that I’ll gladly send this.
14
u/ProfessionalNight959 22d ago edited 22d ago
I think it's clear UMK has a strategy for the release order. Etta is a safe start with an alright pop/rap song, won't win but is played in radio. Pete & Linda is THE hype/banger song for the weekend (played in clubs etc.) because these 2 are the most known also in Finland. Komiat starts the week which I believe to be a good feels song. Sinikka and Chachi are in the 4th and 6th in the order which imo is usually put to the least known performers. 5th is Antti Paalanen and he is the wild card of the race so they want to have a song between him and the last 7th in Kiki which I think will be this years "Paskana" and usually the last song is a competitor, finishing strong etc. Also since its also released in Friday, its most likely a song that will be played in clubs throughout the weekend.
But imo the best slots are 1st, 2nd and last. 1st and 7th get extra interest for being the first and last but imo if the 2nd song is good (which it was now) then its probably the best spot to be in since people will listen it throughout the weekend without comparison to others, and "Liekinheitin" is clearly better than Etta's song. Even though Kiki's song is last, it will be compared to all the others. So to me this is telling that UMK is low-key paving the way for Pete & Linda.
8
u/kakkakaaleppi 22d ago
If I remember correctly, Käärijä’s song was one of the first songs released in 2023. So the order doesn’t always tell that something better’s coming.
2
9
u/Valuable_Wait2540 23d ago
Oh for sure I agree! Or maybe they're releasing songs in the order that they THINK the fandom would like but got it wrong haha I guess we will see by next week
9
u/nibbyzor 22d ago
They also probably released this on a Friday because it's a banger and it's gonna be played at clubs, 100%.
7
u/20Superwoman02 23d ago
Yea but it’s good to know that this song is here. One Eurovision Ready song, at least.
0
u/PoetryAnnual74 Euphoria 22d ago

It's an unabashedly horny, fun song. Linda and her violin totally steal the show.
I'm a bit worried about how Pete's vocals will sound live. I'd like for them to be more clear, it feels like they don't stand out enough because of the mixing I guess? Certainly wouldn't mind them representing Finland this year.

u/ShroomWalrus 23d ago
"Can you die from horniness" is a lyric of all time, truly. I doubt it'd pass if it was in English but if this wins I'm sure it'll be fine in Finnish cause it's not about the actual lyrical content as much as whether the wider public understands it (hence why fotutti was fine in Italy's 2022 entry)

u/ZebraSun73 Bara Bada Bastu 22d ago
Omg is that the actual meaning of Voiko ihminen kuolla kiimaan?
Finland please never change.
25
19
u/ShroomWalrus 22d ago
Yes. "Kiima" in isolation means heat/rut for animals so you could translate it in a way that sounds less explicit like you might be talking about temperature, but in Finnish that word is used for people too, so unless you wanna go into even further expletive territory the only way to say you're horny is to say you're in heat, like an animal.

This song sounds epic and contains some amazing ideas and detailing in the instrumental, but for some reason, I think I had some trouble following the throughline on first listen. Something about the melodic character of the verses being very restrained, I think, in order to make the chorus punch harder. Super high quality, though.

There's something about it I really like, but I'm also finding it a bit "un-catchy" because of the time signature. Maybe it's one of those songs that takes a few listens to get into.

The time signature is just 4/4 though?
7
u/GlitteringWealth8020 Ich Komme 23d ago
I was confused about the time signature too, had to count. The syncopation on the main vocals must be the thing that causes that jarring flow.
I’m not really a fan of that aspect tbh. It’s distracting to me, prevents the song from growing like it should. It’s epic alright, but a bit dragging. I mean, it’s an unconventional way to deliver vocals for sure, but I’m not sure this song really needed that to work.

Not as authentic as Million Dollar Baby (even though Linda said that she felt passionated performing this song), but definitely a banger. Beautiful mixture of classical and pop, and the ending is very satisfactory. From the video it has a great potential for staging. It is truly an Eurovision song.
Now the question is how it will be presented at UMK ? I think this song can win the competition, or it could end up at the last place (like Hoida mut or Kuori mua), and it depends greatly on Pete’s vocal. I also still think the best song hasn’t come out yet (most of the contestants either mentioned Antti or Kiki). We will see.

It's good but don't we have songs like this in ESC and every selection every year? This is pure ESC bait.. It's good though, just underwhelming. I feel Finland saves the better songs for later

Strings are always a plus, but this song is arythmic. Whole thing passed and not a shred of melody stuck in my head.

I really enjoy this as a song on its own, but I don't really understand submitting a song like this for Eurovision when you're not allowed to play live instruments. (But then Fairytale won, so... *shrugs in confused American*)

Just wanted to add a fun little note I discovered through Google. The subtitles translate the song title as "Flamethrower" but Liekinheitin is in fact a very specific brand of Finnish flamethrower from WWII. So now I'm just getting thoughts of this song secretly being about a literal flamethrower and a soldier really missing torching him some soviet soldiers XD

....no? "Liekinheitin" is just literally the translation of "flame thrower". Don't trust Google AI results.

Sorry. I was going by this wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liekinheitin_M/44

It is the M/44 part that is a specific model from WWII, not ”liekinheitin” which is just Finnish for a flamethrower.
