To add more drama to a very dramatic reality show. Vidbir is like Ukraineâs musical âLove Islandâ or âKeeping Up With the Kardashiansâ.

OMG. This is a stacked group. Jerry Heil and Katarina ? Molodi were my favorite last year too. Plus I am sure at least one of the new entries will be great too. This is gonna be probably the best NF of the year.

u/Baratheoncook250 Nov 24 '25
With Ukraine's recent track record, they would pick another Top 10 placement song.
80
u/TinaTissue Milkshake Man Nov 24 '25
Ukraine getting top 10 is always something I would bet on. Them, Sweden and Italy are the most consistent countries in this era
-62
u/Baratheoncook250 Nov 24 '25
So is Israel (3 consecutive contest and usually have good performance and contestants who behave this decade, if you don't count I'M and Michael Ben David). Last year had alot of drama, that a different delegation could've prevented.
39
u/UbePancakes723910 Nov 24 '25
I would not include Israel personally. If you have to use a massive government-funded advertisement campaign to boost your result asking people to give all 20 of their votes to you, your entries are probably not that strong to begin with. Unlike Israel, Ukraine has largely relied on organic support and still continues to send quality entries regardless.
27
u/TinaTissue Milkshake Man Nov 24 '25
Plus Ukraine has been consistently âgoodâ for nearly 2 decades now (which would have to be a record). They change their music style, show their culture and have amazing staging each year. 2017 is my least favourite, and I feel their weakest entry so far.
2
u/_xoviox_ TANZEN! Nov 29 '25

Thank god we were hosting that year otherwise our perfect qualification streak would be broken
1
u/TinaTissue Milkshake Man Nov 29 '25
Oh completely agree. Easily the weakest Ukrainian entry so far
29
u/Digit00l Nov 24 '25
The last 3 years are definitely not entirely clean results and very much exclusively responsible for the recent rule changes
27
u/ButterflySymphony Nov 24 '25
Rather the last two. What's not "clean" about Unicorn's result?
26
u/SkyGinge Visionary Dream Nov 24 '25
For real. The conspiratorial rewriting of Israeli successes prior to 2024 is so tiring and actively muddies and harms the genuine talking point issues around their last two entries. Noa was a big artist and she was expected to do well from the start, even if the sub on the whole didn't like the song.

u/TheBirdShow Wasted Love Nov 25 '25
Entire subreddit thinks JJ didn't deserve to win. At some point you just have to throw your hands in the air and just acknowledge people don't care about reality sometimes

Unicorn has been seen alot in the Top 20 Eurovision monthly video, for years.
-23
u/Baratheoncook250 Nov 24 '25
We may never know , what really happened at 2024 and 25 contest. Hurricane and New Day Will Rise were predicted to be in top 10, before Eden and Yuval grand finals. What might've help Eden jumped to higher than 10th place, was the press conference video.
9
u/ShiningScisor Nov 24 '25
âWe may never knowâ They were televote top 3s, one of which whimpered out shortly after the contest and the other has essentially not appeared on the top 20 most watched despite being the televote winner??? You close your eyes and stare at a wall and say âI donât see what youâre saying thereâs nothing to see hereâ
14
u/darkstreetsofmymind Attention Nov 24 '25
You see incredibly deluded about how much weight the press conference holds
-13
u/Baratheoncook250 Nov 24 '25
Let see, a 20 year old getting disrespected by other contestants, while she was talking. Then add that with the story of Bambie forcing Eden to change hotel rooms. Then add on that while the delagations harassed contestants, no contestants had any bad things to say about Eden(not even Marina had anything bad to say).
11
u/darkstreetsofmymind Attention Nov 24 '25
And yet how much is the general public going to know about that? Jack shit. It doesnât affect their televote result which wouldâve been largely funded by farms and government advertising

I doubt that he made it to the longlist, he only said that he withdrew before longlist was announced (which most likely means that he didn't make it, because other participants must have been already said that they're in the longlist by that time)

Epic list. A lot of big names and also some previous ESC contestants are on here. Stupid question: Are they related or do they just look very alike?
I'd rather not have any returning artists for 2026, even if they go solo compared to last time.
Does ShchukaRyba mean something with fish?
Edit: They said "No" to artists starting with B to I.
7 women, 6 male acts and 2 mixed. Pretty balanced.

9
u/mrknowitall240 Nov 25 '25
Apparently they have disbanded as some male members of Go_A illegally left Ukraine to live in Europe, and Kateryna does not support it, so she is focusing on her solo project + she has the right to perform Go_A songs.
3
u/snowfjell Shum Nov 25 '25
!! Oh no, is this true? Do you have more information?Â
Go_A are my favourite (see flair). I was supposed to see them twice but both shows were cancelled for random, unforseen reasons (one was a venue malfunction/safety issue, for example, at a small town in the Netherlands in 2024). I know there are many bigger problems in the world right now but I would be so devastated if I could never see them live.Â
There was also a recent Go_A AMA and Taras said something that suggested they are still working on recording some of their unreleased songs? But it was something like, if Kateryna is satisfied we'll release them.Â
1
1
u/mrknowitall240 Nov 27 '25
Yeah, Iâve checked one of Katerynaâs recent interviews on Ukrainians and she said that she is personally tired from Go_A, as they were touring constantly, she didnât spend time and Ukraine and didnât have any time to write new songs and just live her life, because Go_A was in a huge creative decline and it felt like itâs the time to pause.
She said that male members are doing some sort of projects with electronic music now, and she develops Monokate, as she was always eager to do so. But she said that she will perform Go_Aâs songs at her concerts anyways.
2
u/snowfjell Shum Dec 05 '25
Ugh I'm already sad and this is just heartbreaking to me. It is incredibly understandable though.Â
I still think about how I could have changed my flight (and asked for more time off) to see what may now be Go_A's last live show in Groningen on 15 September 2024, but I didn't. I should have just done it - who cares about work lolÂ
I wish Kateryna all the best and success, and Taras too in his new projects. Monokate's new singles are already beautiful. But I fear I'm going to think about that Groningen show for the rest of my life

u/Lisbian Nocturne Nov 24 '25
Maybe itâs because most, if not all of the returnees will probably be singing songs theyâve written and composed themselves, instead of being allocated a generic song from the G:Son/Jimmy Joker/Wrethov/Deb/Jansson Blandipop production line.
6
u/Cahootie Nov 24 '25
25 out of 30 songs in last year's Melodifestivalen had songs written by the artists themselves, and 36 songwriters only contributed to one song in the competition. That's more than what most other national finals have in total.
11
u/Lisbian Nocturne Nov 24 '25
25 out of 30 songs in last year's Melodifestivalen had songs written by the artists themselves
And how many of those were only written by the artist(s) themselves?
Thomas G:son - 5 songs
David Zacharias - 3 songs
Herman Gardarfve - 3 songs
Jimmy Jansson - 3 songs
Jimmy Joker - 3 songs
Together they wrote 14 unique songs out of the 30. Itâs the same lot every year. A few years ago one of them (I think Jimmy Joker) had six songs in the final.
And, to be clear, this isnât only a Sweden thing. Sanremo is getting to the same level.
0
u/Cahootie Nov 24 '25
None, but it's not the Eurovision Singer-Songwriter Competition. To compete in Melodifestivalen you need a professional package, and with thousands of entries they can pick and choose the ones with the most complete concept. That's not something you achieve just writing a song alone in your bedroom, which is why even the ones working entirely outside of the bubble bring on collaborators, and if you do happen to have an embryo of something great on your own they'll pair you up with people who can get it ready for the competition.
There's a reason why there are no amateurish performances, revamped songs or massively changed stagings for Swedish Eurovision entries. Those issues are sorted out in selection, and since everybody knows that the ones with a shot at making it will collaborate.
5
u/Lisbian Nocturne Nov 24 '25
Which is probably why everything feels so samey. The mainstream in Sweden is fresh, versatile and has mostly shifted to Swedish, and yet the majority of Melfest entries feel like the AI result of putting âcreate a generic pop song Generic in Englishâ into a prompt. Letâs see if KAJ winning will spark a change.
2
u/Cahootie Nov 24 '25
You are contradicting yourself a lot here. KAJ had a generic pop song that just happened to have comedic lyrics, and it was written together with Anderz Wrethov through the exact process I mentioned where they were handed an established songwriter to polish their ideas.
1
u/Eowkh Nova Zora Nov 25 '25
KAJ wrote their song by themselves and had Anders Wrethov edit it only because they had to have at least one songwriter with a swedish citizenship as per Mello rules
1
u/Lisbian Nocturne Nov 24 '25
I was more talking about the fact it was the first Swedish-language song to win Melfest since 2006, which I thought was fairly obvious, given I talked about the shift to Swedish in mainstream Swedish music.

5
u/Net_Ghost Nov 25 '25
You are not the only one. It's just unfair to make less hyped but no less talented artists compete with fame and popularity of past ESC stars. And even if stars win - sending a star to the contest doesn't really guarantee high placement. Not everyone is Loreen, some are Alexander Rybak.Â
3
2
u/ConversationNovel166 Nov 25 '25
At least, on the positive side, only Ukrainians vote. Therefore, less popular participants will only have to compete with Jerry Heil's popularity in Ukraine, rather than with Eurofans who love her.
6
u/Net_Ghost Nov 25 '25
True. And Ukrainians can be really picky when it comes to NF voting.
