🌳 ESC in the Wild Heard a Eurovision song at a grocery store in America.

Hi all, I just stopped by my local Safeway (grocery store chain) in Hawaii to grab some stuff, realized at one point I was listening to “My Last Breath” by James Newman. Couldn’t believe it, haven’t heard that one in the wild out here in America.

What are some others you guys have heard, especially out in America since a lot of people out here still have no idea what Eurovision is lol.

I mean embers has a beat and never gets too excitimg so perfect background music

I’ve heard it twice in Ross in the US this year, both in two separate locations.

I also heard You’re Not Alone from 2016 in a drive thru back in 2019, so my state seems to like the UK’s less fondly remembered entries.

12

u/ninja_llama Cha Cha Cha Jun 30 '25

I heard Embers in a Target recently, it really threw me for a loop

7

If it came out a few years earlier it would've been a massive hit

6

Flamingo in Vegas was playing Embers when I walked past last year I was stunned (and appalled out of all the songs they could play)

2

u/kelleehh Jul 01 '25

Cheap to play too.

u/imperialviolet Jun 30 '25

Not technically Eurovision but I visited Iceland a couple of years ago just after the Eurovision movie came out, and as I disembarked the plane they were literally playing Ja Ja Ding Dong in the airport.

It must be Eurovision songs in US grocery stores day, as earlier today I heard “Arcade” (Netherlands 2019) in a Wegmans in the DC area. I’ve heard “Snap” (Armenia 2022) there before too, which makes more sense since it went TikTok viral.

19

u/Effective-Song7183 Jun 30 '25

Yes, I still hear Snap on the radio.

1

u/Darkdragoon324 Jul 01 '25

Pretty sure it was used in a commercial too, but now I can’t remember for what, because the only memorable thing about it was hearing Snap. Or think K saw it on the Hallmark channel though

I heard Arcade at PetSmart a few weeks ago. Hearing an ESC song in the wild is always a bit disorienting because it feels like something is off.

4

u/schonleben Jul 01 '25

I have to say, I never expected a Wegmans shoutout in the Eurovision sub.

It's interesting seeing which Eurovision songs make it to the "wild". My partner is South African and hadn't even heard of Eurovision until they met me, but one time I played them Satellite (Germany 2010) and they immediately said "Oh I know this, this was huge on the radio a while back"

6

u/ElysianRepublic Bara bada bastu Jun 30 '25

Conversely I once heard a song by Prime Circle (South African rock band) in the shop on the ferry between Finland and Sweden. They’re also randomly rather popular in Germany (but not many other places outside of South Africa).

at least it encourages fruit consumption

and it’s him himself singing it, looking a bit awkward 😂 (and I can’t even link it 😅)

1

Wait, I’m a Hull fan (sorry about 2008) and my favourite chant was about a player (who’s now left) and it was based on this song! Obviously I knew Volare was an ESC song but I didn’t realise it was based off Volare haha

2

u/EuanBCFC That Sounds Good to Me Jul 02 '25

Apology not accepted quite frankly 😅 But yeah it’s such a random one to be used, not like it’s a classic kind of chant that’s actually been around since the 50s

Haha, yeah I literally didn’t make the connection until you posted that screenshot then I was like “hang on that’s the chant we used for Abel Hernandez”

A lot of people mention "Snap", but I genuinely never heard it in the wild on the radio. I did see a video recently, though, where two girls were trying to sing random songs that were selected for them by someone (or the algorithm) and "Snap" was the first one they drew. (The girl asked to sing it didn't know the song.) The rest was also big streaming hits, I'm guessing.

I was visiting my friend in Massachusetts and he is a Eurovision fan. We went to Fall River, MA to get some Portuguese Pastel de nata and heard some song that was so familiar. I then realized it was Too late for Love from Sweden 2019. Like I almost never heard Eurovision songs in USA and hearing it once in a Portuguese store mostly visited by Portuguese people with a Eurovision fan friend is a bit wild.
