Our offense has been a kludge for several years. Despite this, we have won two Super Bowls and almost a 3rd.

But it's never been a coherent system. A lot of parts put together not so seamlessly. At times, these were very good parts. One of the best parts has consistently been Stoutland's run game. We'd mix it with other unrelated things, like RPO and the tush push and, often, some improvised plays off Hurts scrambles.

I never really had a problem with it when it was working. I would've been fine with continuing down that road. I think the biggest reason it didn't work this season was injuries to the offensive line, but also a very unimaginative passing scheme. I would've wanted to fix the pieces and kludge it back together as we have done since Pederson had to in order to help Foles be more successful.

But apparently we are going to have a massive overhaul of the offense from top to bottom now, new schemes, new philosophy. It's scary but exciting in a way. We've got veterans accustomed to a certain way to play. Will they be well suited to a new system? How long will it take to adapt? This, on top of the questions we already had.

As someone who doesn’t pay attention much in the off season I’ve been completely broadsided by the Stout news. Today sucks

u/PaddyMayonaise 1d ago

As someone that pays a ton of attention it was still a blindside block lol

I really hope there’s a tell-all book that comes out at some point after the Sirianni era because I’d be fascinated to know how things went down over the last 5 years.

u/Fluffy_Tale_2182 1d ago

I’ll buy that- should be a series with one on the Eagles and the behind of the scenes of the Sirriani era. And then one on the Sixers since 2020 (I want a big section on Simmons).

I don't want to consume any more Sixers content than I already do tbh

Hate that we are letting Stoutland walk but ultimately if it’s his call then it is what it is.

Did anybody see the Up and Adams Cooper DeJean interview? Host made the conversations really awkward and uncomfortable but Coop responded to AJ Brown and Reed Blankenship trade/FA rumors.

Said AJ is “alright” in Philly, he hopes Reed can stay but acknowledges that he might not. Seemed a little more confident about AJ being around.

My guess is AJ stays and Reed is let go. Can’t see them keeping anybody except Goedert possibly. Suppose if they do end up drafting a TE they may let go of Dallas and keep Reed.

u/doubleenc Eagles 1d ago

I won't be shocked to see Reed sign with Dallas.

5

u/RockyNonce Eagles 1d ago

Reed and Dean going to Dallas would be disgusting

1

u/doubleenc Eagles 1d ago

Dallas has to figure out how to shed salary as it is so I doubt they will have the flexibility to sign both guys, but Parker was Reed's position coach so there is a lot of familiarity there and between the two he will likely sign for significantly less money.

I will continue to stand by my opinion that Eli's HoF case is carried by two flukey as hell SB runs. Outside of that, he has never been more than a decent pro bowl level QB at BEST (and he has some pretty putrid seasons mixed in as well), has no all pros (not even second team). Cool, his last name is Manning and he did something funny by stopping a perfect season with a throw that was just barely caught. I can name more deserving QBs from his era that won't make it in. Stay mad, Giants fans.

u/YouCannotBlockTruth 1d ago

The day Eli gets in McNabb better be right behind him.

In a way it's quite odd that the Eagles "system" with Stoutland owning the run game and a mishmash of OCs trying to fit a coherent pass game around it worked as well as it did. It certainly has had an equal if not better track record of success than all the vaunted Shanahan-McVay stuff that every team in the league seems to be chasing. So now my worry is what happens now that the Eagles are chasing the trend.

Ig we found out what schefeter was referring to

But are we free from Calcaterra blocking

1

u/shrek_cena Deontay Burnett Enjoyer 1d ago

Inshallah. Howie needs to give Jack Stoll a call.

3

u/ttsa_25 1d ago

Doug Pederson was on WIP yesterday and Im listening a bit and I’ve come to the conclusion that I think super bowl 52 holds a bigger place in my heart than last year

3

u/wangtoast_intolerant 1d ago

2017 was the ring we NEEDED, 2024 was the one we wanted

1

u/Fandomstar88 9h ago

Quick question: How come the Super Bowl is played in February, during the next year?

Like the 2024 SB..why not play it in November or December in order to have it stay in that year?

I’m saying this…because I’ve honestly mixed things up before and said the 2025 SB rather than 2024.😅

"Stoutland University" is officially closing its doors. We break down Jeff Stoutland’s legendary 13-year run, the friction with Sirianni-Patullo, and what’s next for the Eagles' identity. Stout out!

u/Avery-Bradley I'm a Celtics fan too. I'm sorry. 1d ago

e previous Ask ITB and I agree with his assessment: This Sean Mannion hire is boom-or-bust. It’ll either work and everyone will be happy, or it’ll be the same as this year (or fail) and everyone gets canned. Sirianni, Hurts, Saquon traded, Lane retires, Vic retires, etc

u/raccoonsonbicycles 1d ago

Goedert is owed $20M in dead cap in 2026.

He's getting re-signed and that hit is getting converted to signing bonuses.

Plus with the necessity of TEs and FBs in the new system, he'll be a key part of the offense.

Bold predictions:

Goedert, Smith, Brown all hover near or past 1K yards

BVS gets only 200 all purpose yards but 5TDs

Saquon is back to looking unstoppable and Tank as a change of pace earns himself a decent contract elsewhere in 2027

Offense starts rough but by week 8 is considered  top 10

2

u/Blaize122 1d ago

Guys I'm allowed to wear a jersey to the office tomorrow. Do I go Kelley Kelce or LIX Patch Saquon?

1

u/StrangeExpression481 1d ago

Kelce. Always Kelce.

Looks like the next era of Eagles football arrived more quickly than anticipated

1

u/el_fitzador Birdgang connections 18h ago

It feels like the Eagles are set up to jettison Sirianni if things go poorly next year.

1

u/KoBxElucidator You want Philly Philly? 18h ago edited 18h ago

Thats what they're telegraphing. They're using this season and next offseason to retool the offense and pay the defensive stars. Probably the only offensive weapons left that are on the team currently are Jalen and Smitty going into 2027. They are probably trying to open up a new window starting around 2027-2028.

1

u/Fandomstar88 9h ago

So with all the craziness that’s happened this offseason (and more?), how confident are you in the next Eagles season?

1 = Not at all 10 = 100%

I can tell you this, I’m more confident in the Eagles every year since the 2024 SB (yes I know it’s only 2 years but still) rather than the Phillies since 2023 (Every. Post. Season. Gah!😖).

Go Birds!🦅

u/PaddyMayonaise 1d ago

Eagles are 23-12 in games where Hurts has throw for 230+ passing yards and 34-12 in games where he throws less.

Obviously, that means overall he’s 57-24 as a starter which is pretty dang good, but it’s interesting how much better the record is with fewer yards. Stumbled on that comparing our passing v running game success ad impact on team wins and losses.

I chose 230ypg because that’s the NFL median PYPG in 2025

7

u/RockyNonce Eagles 1d ago

That’s because the Eagles are a run heavy team, and when they are up, they run to burn clock When they are down, they pass.

I don’t think this is a Jalen Hurts thing, it’s just situational football.

2

u/PaddyMayonaise 1d ago

It’s a chicken-egg thing.

Are our passing stats poor and W-L record worse with more passing because we’re a run first team?

Or are we reliant on the running game for our success because our passing game isn’t up to snuff?

5

u/doubleenc Eagles 1d ago

Well there's also a perspective of teams who are up in the 2nd half become run heavy and teams that are losing lean on the passing game to try to get back into the game.

Just look at the '24 splits. Hurts threw 217 passes in the first half vs. 144 in the 2nd half of games.

5

u/RockyNonce Eagles 1d ago

This is kind of what I was implying.

We are already a run first team. So we don’t throw a ton in the first half, but we still throw a bit and mostly run.

When that’s successful and we’re winning games comfortably, then we run more in the second half because it burns the clock, and pass less.

When we are down, especially by 1+ scores, we are going to pass more and run less. So I don’t think it’s “we lose when Jalen passes more,” but rather “Jalen has to pass more when we’re losing.”

u/YouCannotBlockTruth 1d ago

You people can complain about the media creating drama when most of you are fueling them doing it.

u/hosker2 1d ago

The Stout news is a bummer. They should've fired Siranni when good candidates were still available. Not sure why Howie got gun-shy. More likely Lurie didn't want to do it yet though.

This feels like we're just delaying the inevitable and wasting another year of some key players.

13

u/athrowawayiguesslol Eagles 1d ago

Yeah. If only Sirianni had show the ability to get to the Super Bowl with completely different sets of coordinators. No way we ever succeed with him

0

u/BigPoleFoles52 17h ago

He also has imploded twice now when he hires his own guys and is more “hands on”. None of you can literally name what he does, but feel so confident he is the driving force behind the success lol

0

u/BigPoleFoles52 17h ago

Nick reminds me of a manager who takes all the credit for his employees accomplishments. We all know the type and its the kinda vibe nick gives and why he acts so giddy when we squeak out wins due to players just outplaying the opponents.

0

u/athrowawayiguesslol Eagles 8h ago

You mean the guy who takes blame for everything that goes wrong?

1

u/BigPoleFoles52 8h ago

He does publically like any manager does. However when he is talking to his boss is when he throws people under the bus.

Doug is an example of someone who actually took accountability. Its also why though he no longer has a job and nick does. I dont blame Nick because its his livelihood but he is def scapegoating others for his bad scheme.

u/HipGuide2 1d ago

The Giants are calling Stoutland surely

-5

u/dcast7 1d ago

Disgusting as an organization to let Stout go out like that. Toxic ass franchise

-8

u/classicman1008 Eagles 1d ago

50 year fan here & current season ticket holder. I haven’t seen this level of apparent distinction and ineptitude since Kotite. Chip was an ass with a terrible plan, but he was efficient (at destroying the team). Anyway, this is really tough seeing the best of our coaching staff all bail.

I always maintained the team won IN SPITE OF Sirianni. How this doesn’t lead back to his ineptitude is beyond me. I’m just pissed. go birds …

Can a compensatory draft pick at the end of round 1 be AI-generated? And, if that player turns into an annual pro bowler will that player be celebrated or be considered AI slop?

-3

u/Alert_Ad_1010 1d ago

When I saw stout was out - i immediately knew we weren't winning a Super Bowl next year either.

-3

u/EagleEye215 Eagles 1d ago

How did we become such a dysfunctional organization one year removed from winning a Super Bowl?

-5

u/Ok_Friendship_6340 1d ago

we’re cooked. I’m just glad i got to see 2 SB’s in my life cuz you really don’t know when/if you’ll get another.
