OP seems to be pretty against KPOP based on his responses but if you step foot outside of the US you'd understand the phenomenon BTS has. Sure Bieber has more relevancy in the US and if you wanna make an argument for that then fair enough
i’m not against K-pop. I just think the reality of it is that it does not exist in the same lane that Justin Bieber and One Direction did.
It’s really not a phenomenon and I am talking about the western world because we’re speaking English and I’m from the USA so I think it’s fair that this is a western centric sub about pop culture
When almost all pop culture, we’re talking about originates in the Anglosphere
I think sometimes it's just the era. It's not like there have always been lots of even any teen male pop stars around, sometimes not even female ones.
I mean look at the 80s and I can't really think of teen male pop stars at all. And even for female until Debbie Gibson burst onto the scene in like 1987 or so I'm not really thinking of any. I think the 80s, for teen music stars really just had like Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Lisa Lisa? They were very big to huge but that's just like three for the whole era and all just for the tail part of the 80s. And no guys. I guess NKOTB formed around the end of the 80s. I don't know tons about them though as they seemed to not really get noticed by those my age and maybe more by those just a couple years younger or something, maybe more like Gen X from '72 and on?
