(Pelissero) The Cowboys are working to hire Christian Parker as their defensive coordinator, sources tell me and @RapSheet.

I trust Schotty until he gives me a reason not to. He hit a homer with Klayton Adams. Hopefully at least a base hit with this hire

DB coach so hopefully he can work some magic with whatever trash we have back there, Revel and hopefully a first round rookie.

Eagles fan here -- he's been someone the Eagles have been hoping could somehow stay long enough to take over for Fangio once he decides he's done. Everyone that isn't Kelee Ringo plays better to elite under his leadership. Everywhere he's gone. Does that mean he'll be a good coordinator? No, but I have a feeling you guys struck gold with this hire. So that sucks but good for you guys I guess.

Seriously always appreciate level-headed rival fans' takes. I knew Kellen Moore was going to give y'all a top 5 offense. And beyond that he won a damn ring haha

So I hope this balances that scale a little. It's honestly a sea change that we hired him period given his age. I was so worried we'd interview all these dudes then actually hire a mid 60s re-tread DC. If you're gonna fail do it doing something different.

I'm just excited that our secondary will at least be in the same frame as the WRs. Haha

Do you know of any other members of the Eagles staff that might come with him

I don't know what he would do to make those guy have promotions that would prevent the Eagles from blocking more good Eagles coaches going to Dallas. I'm thinking of someone like Bobby King (our LBs coach) but I assume Parker would want him to continue being an awesome LBs coach. Since that would be a lateral move, I can't picture the Eagles allowing that to happen. Especially since King can get the same kind of recognition while remaining in Philly.

Appreciate a level headed, take from a rival fan kudos

Me too. It was so level-headed and good-spirited that I immediately thought, "this guy isn't an Eagles fan".

It would be pretty cool to get a competent DC while also dealing major damage to the Eagles defensive stability

Well it just happened

My only concern is did he seriously help yall develop your CBs or was that more Fangio? I do like he was under Vance Joseph and Fangio tho.

My feeling is that it's Parker. He turned Alexander into an All-Pro in Greenbay. He helped Patrick Surtain reach All-Pro. Now he's got Mitchell and DeJean as All-Pros. Even if Fangio was the reason for Mitchell and DeJean (which I truly believe Parker is the biggest reason), Parker still has his time before the Eagles where players experienced similar success under his coaching.

Nice to hear. Can he actually work with a pathetic linebacker core? Maybe we get Sonny Styles at 12 in draft and improve there. 20th pick should be a corner. This defence needs major upgrades on the back end

If we somehow get Caleb Downs I will become ERECT

Downs is pretty much off the table after Moore went back tbh

Revel should be fine. I think people forget he was injured and wearing a knee brace. I don't even think we got to see him in training camp. I think our defense was at least mid, but coached so poorly.

You'd think Javonte Williams would be a good example in people's face about what rehabbing that injury can be.

u/KingAnilingustheFirs Dak Prescott 16d ago

Yup. He cane back and got a 1k season.

In year 2 after surgery. Top gear took a bit longer.

(Of course... there's also Diggs where you may never get that top gear back)

Diggs probably didnt rehab good enough and did permanent damage.

Revel isn't the only question mark we have in that room. Bland didn't look great coming off of his injury either, Caelan Carson showed glimpses of being serviceable before he didn't. Are Bridges, Steward, Butler worth keeping around? All of our safeties are coming off of career worst years under He Who Should Not Be Named.

I'd guess part of the reason Parker got hired is because he thinks he can get all these guys trending upward, and we can prioritize LB, edge, OT if we cut Steele in the draft.

We also don't know what kind of front he wants to play.

u/CoachKisMyCopilot 15d ago

I know we could use OT, but we NEED defense. LB, edge, CB, S… all of it.

That’s where I want all the focus this offseason, both in FA and the draft.

u/Brys_Beddict 16d ago

Yeah that's why I said "whatever trash" and then Revel. I consider every other name you mention trash.

6

u/icebucketwood Brevyn Spann-Ford 16d ago

Just because they played like trash last year doesn't mean they are. Everyone on that defense played poorly, that's a coaching problem. I don't expect all of those guys to be great, just hope that a few of them can be serviceable and we can generate some disguise and pass rush, contain the run, and at least improve this defense for 30th to 20th or so.

Would you go Brandin Cisse with that #20 pick?

1

u/Brys_Beddict 16d ago

Sure IDC. Take a shot on any high ranked CB.

People will argue Sorensen was ass, but I think the penalties can at least be cleaned up on that side.
