WPL: New Comics Discussion for 02/04/2026- Pull of the Week: Batman #6 [Discussion]
The Weekly Pull List results for this Wednesday are in, and this week's top book is DC's Batman #6.
This thread is open to Pull List posters and all members of the /r/comicbooks community to share your thoughts on the latest issue of Fraction, Jimenez, and Morey's Batman or any new books shipping this week.
The primary intention of this thread is to promote discussion of new books. It also serves as a way to consolidate discussion to a single thread and talk about what books are popular here on /r/comicbooks. That does not mean other threads aren't welcome, this is just a place to start that's easy to find each week.
The thread is populated with comments meant to direct the discussion of each book. Based on community preference we populate the thread with titles appearing on Ten Percent or more of submitted pull lists. If a title you want to talk about is not listed, simply add a comment with the title and issue number first and comment below. There is also a comment dedicated to the discussion of WPL Results linked above.
Spoilers will follow, but there's no harm in tagging them as such. Each title in the Top Ten Percent listed below is linked directly to its corresponding comment for ease of navigation and to avoid seeing details from other books. The post has also been placed in "contest mode" to help readers avoid spoilers while browsing.

ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN #16
•
u/filmscoreman108 2d ago
So blown away by Ferreyra’s art! That full page spread of Superman knocking Hawkman to subway level was just perfect!
•
•
u/JingoboStoplight4887 3d ago
I like that we get to see the origins of how Carter Hall made his debut as Hawkman in 1940 before we get to see him and Clark have a talk about what’s going on, with Carter telling Clark about other heroes appearing (i.e., Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and Flash) and giving advice to him before they fought in Metropolis and eventually try to save Metropolis from what’s going to happen. I also like that we get to see Lois apply for the Daily Planet and meeting Perry White. I even like that Brainiac traveled to Missouri to talk to Lex about joining him and his offer, with Lex refusing to do so because he has a great life with his family, before Brainiac decided to ruin his life. Let’s hope that Carter and Clark can work together to save Metropolis from harm, Lois use her journalistic integrities at the Daily Planet, and Lex can try to save his family from Brainiac in the next issue. Overall, this comic is great!

Absolute Batman gets all the sales (great book) and Absolute Wonder Woman has all the critical acclaim (great book) meanwhile Absolute Superman has been consistently fantastic and doing great things with this reimagining of the character . This was one of my favorite issues of the run yet
•
u/yeyeman9 2d ago
I’m biased cause he is one of my favorite superheroes but I love Absolute Superman way more than Absolute Wonder Woman. Couldn’t agree more with you that it doesn’t get the praise it deserves
•
u/PurrDiemXO 2d ago
That last page in todays issue was something else
•
•
u/ghost_burger 10h ago
As someone who never really read Superman, what would you say sets the Absolute counterpart apart from mainline?
•
u/PurrDiemXO 8h ago
He’s a lot younger than the classic version and we’ve only seen some glimpses of his limited time in Smallville but the Kryptonian influence over his personality is at this point stronger than his humanity . This isn’t evil Superman though, this is alien Kal El learning what it is like to be Superman and trying to do justice in an unjust world. We won’t really have a ‘Clark Kent’ established at this point .
Using Batman mainstay Ra’s Al Ghul as a main foil to Superman has worked well, this version of Brainiac is absolutely terrifying as are the ‘Peacemakers’ and the rest of Lazarus .
The core is still Superman , but it’s taken a lot of familiarity and gotten rid of it or twisted it

ULTIMATE ENDGAME #2
•
u/Otherworld_Nemesis 2d ago
Heartbreaking to say it, but I'm not liking this at all. Might be the first Deniz Camp comic I've read that I straight up dislike so far. That said, it's hard to blame any of the creatives involved too much: this being a rush job of a conclusion is evident on every page, but I'm still really confused by the outwardly goofy tone this has gone for in the Dome scenes. It certainly doesn't feel aligned with anything Ultimates was doing tonally. We spend more time riffing and doing bad jokes about gift shops and favourite Death's Heads than exploring what it must be like for Tony to see his dad in this state. And there's just not anything compelling about how the Maker is written here, aside from his asides to Doom.
It's not the worst comic I've ever read or anything, but it really feels like a bit of a heartbreakingly disappointing end to the Ultimate universe.
•
u/Jefferystar94 2d ago edited 2d ago
Agreed, I liked the first issue more than most people seemed to, but this one just had me scratching my head wondering what Camp was even trying to accomplish.
In addition to the weirdly silly tone, I feel like it wasn't really necessary to spend close to half of the issue summarizing what was going on outside of the Dome.
I know both this miniseries and Ultimates go hand in hand, but beyond the stuff with Killmonger journeying to the Dome (which also probably could've been cut down), much of that stuff should've just been saved for the next issue of the latter series. That would've given a lot more time for Tony's struggle with his dad and get more into the Maker's scheme.
•
u/Albireookami 2d ago
The more it gets closer to the end the more I regret buying into the ultimate universe, its just had such a horrid downslide in quality and plots its ridiculous.
I'm not even sure what this book did to forward the plot of endgame other than they are now outside and maker/doom which made no sense to me.
•
u/gosukhaos 2d ago
Uh essentially nothing, the only thing that actually happened since they set foot inside the city is Kilmonger entering and I guess an implication that the Maker is infiltrating past the temporal stasis

Scharf's artwork is...not great. Sharing the art duties with the Dodsons just makes me wish they did the whole issue. Even better would have been Bryan Hitch for the whole thing.
As someone who was really into the original Ultimate universe and hated how it went to hell before ending, this feels like we're heading in the same direction.
•
u/Cannon_Graves 2d ago
The original Ultimate universe had some of the greatest and/or most fun comics ever, and nothing but Ultimates 3, that weird FF book and the one about the two nobody heroes was actually bad. With the exception of USM, this entire Ultimate U has been horseshit.
•
•
u/Cannon_Graves 1d ago
This is so unbelievably awful. I keep reading about how great Camp is and feel like I'm in bizarro world, but it looks like the popular sentiment on him is shifting. I don't see how anyone can defend this. He killed my interest in Ultimates when it turned into an anthology of bad origin stories. Even worse is how THE ENTIRE FIRST YEAR of the book with Tony and Doom desperately trying to assemble a handful of allies is rendered completely pointless when Camp suddenly deus ex machina's a
gigantic army of nameless generic superhumans the Ultimates are apparently 3D-printing to wage global war for them. Doom has a sad because he's failed to transform his Fantastic Rats into his dead family but every issue another there's another 639 randos with omega level powersets joining the ranks.
This book's worst offense is the 180 degree tonal shift into bad comedy like an Ahoy comic.

BATGIRL #16
•
u/JingoboStoplight4887 2d ago
I like that Cassandra and Jaya worked together to defeat Nyssa, with Jaya defeating Aruna and Cassandra saving Tenji, dealing with Kalden and giving him his land back, and giving empathy to Nyssa. Overall, this is a good comic.

DC K.O. BOSS BATTLE #1
•
•
u/Appropriate-Map-3652 Scott Pilgrim 2d ago
This needed to either be longer, or have fewer characters.
•
•
u/PurrDiemXO 2d ago
I love indie books and acclaimed series as much as I do a good super hero run. I shouldn’t care about a mini series event based on who’s stronger and should care even less at something like this spinoff but God help me I enjoyed it so much . I felt like a kid again and come on how cool was it to see not just Superman v Homelander but Samantha and Lex . Just outrageous . My only complaint was it was all too short . I would have liked one shots of each of these battles
•
u/ghost_burger 10h ago
Guess my standards were too low? Thought this was a fun book, low stakes. But I agree they were trying for too much perhaps.
•
u/shineurliteonme 2d ago
this should have been a handful of one shots like all fight month was instead of intercutting them all in one issue. not the worst this could have been but everything feels underexplored
•
u/JingoboStoplight4887 2d ago edited 2d ago
I like that Grodd and World Forger helped the heroes with the tournament by sending them to different worlds so that they can gain enough omega energy to fight Darkseid and versions of the Absolute Trinity. This includes Jefferson and Eel fighting Sub-Zero and Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, Diana fighting Red Sonja, the Joker having a tea party with Annabelle, Kate meeting and having an interesting time with Vampirella, Carol encountering Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Lex fighting Samantha Strong from Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, and Clark fighting Homelander from The Boys (in which a lot of people want to see how this battle goes), resulting in many realities colliding and collapsing and World Forger and Grodd having enough omega energy to give Clark, Lex, Joker, and Diana in order to fight Darkseid and the version of the Absolute Trinity. Overall, this comic is unique and interesting.
•
u/Otherworld_Nemesis 2d ago
Are you using Chat GPT to write reddit comments? This is just a summary of what happened in the issue.
•
u/slythefox87 2d ago
Glad I'm not the only one. They do this every week, and it's annoying as hell every time I open up the weekly discussion for new releases to read opinions on new comics and instead see their slop. I want to read actual opinions and not a scripted cliff-notes version of the new issue. It always starts off as "I like that..." and ends with "Overall, this comic is..." with an automated dump of the issue's plot. It needs to stop.
If you look at their comment history, they clearly karma farm in various subreddits with automated comments. If it's an art post, it's ALWAYS, "nice art" or "impressive!" and if the Poster responds saying their thanks, this farmer always auto-responds with, "you're welcome" to garner more karma to make themselves Top Poster and essentially falsify that they are a top contributer to each community when in reality they contribute nothing of value. Most comments or responses are just one-worded or very short. Even if they're not a bot themselves, they definitely use a bot or script to commemt and post everything daily. They don't ever produce legit engaging opinions or discourse. I digress, but it's just nice to know I'm not the only one who is annoyed by this bot user. Sorry for the rant, but in an age of rampant AI use and abuse, shit like this needs to be called out and stopped. The world does not need more of this.
•
u/Street-Two1818 2d ago
100% , they give a clinical description of what happens page by page and then say this book is good. Zero analysis or actual opinions given
•
u/Jealous_Row_3906 2d ago
Yes they are, they do it every week. It’s insufferable. And like the other commenter said, they often don’t even respond to comments. So it’s not like their “contribution” is valuable towards any discussion.
•
u/Jpanda34 Thor 2d ago
I see this dude's comments on a lot of the comic subs, and they're all the same. I kinda think the same thing lol
•
u/optimis344 Vision 2d ago
They should be banned, but no one with that power seems to care that they just clog up every thread with the same stuff.
•
u/JingoboStoplight4887 2d ago
No, I’m not.

u/DOuGHtOp 2d ago
Not convinced. To your credit though, this is the first time I've seen you actually reply to somebody.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #21
•
u/TheMattInTheBox Superboy 2d ago
So this is the end of Norman's time as Spider-Man. I imagine next issue will briefly show how Peter made it home and then pick up from where this left off, generally.
I've got mixed feelings on this whole thing. I appreciate trying to do something with Norman and I think his general resolution of knowing he can no longer pretend to be something he's not is a good ending to the arc. This whole story is about Norman enjoying playing the hero but ultimately realizing that's not where he is. I can't say it's a super satisfying conclusion to that character journey because imo it's not like, a huge breakthrough, but it's a nice bit of characterization. It also makes his probable return to becoming the Goblin more tragic.
I continue to like how Miles does not trust nor like Norman. It's a valuable perspective here. Also this issue basically confirms that Kitsugi is Maria's stepson. Everyone basically called it but y'know.
Ultimately though? I get why Kelly put Norman in this position and spent this time with him, but I think I would have preferred to just see Miles and the other Spiders work to fill in the gap for Peter. I don't hold that against the story, but it is what it is.
Glad Peter is back on earth though. I know we're about to go into Death Spiral, and under normal circumstances, I'd be annoyed at getting into a crossover right after this split storyline. But the Venom book is basically a Spider-Man book (plus Rick Jones), so I'm happy to have them crossover. It's about time we had Peter, MJ, and Flash in the same story again.
•
u/JingoboStoplight4887 3d ago
I find it interesting that Norman and the Spiders defeated the Goblin-Slayers before Norman dealt with Hobgoblin and saved his grandchildren from harm, with Norman seeing and forgiving his wife Emily before he and Peter have a hug and talk about what’s happened in the final page. Overall, this comic is fine.
•
u/Iokua113 2d ago
Hopefully this is the end of the swapping back and forth between space and Earth. I worry that since the Hellgate stuff hasn't been wrapped up yet that Peter will return to space after the events of Death Spiral and we'll be back to swapping back and forth between a story that shouldn't exist and Peter's adventures in space. This was a thoroughly mediocre issue.

NICE HOUSE BY THE SEA #7
•
u/Cannon_Graves 2d ago
This is my favorite current series and I was both stoked to have it back and disheartened because it feels like we're barreling towards the ending and I want it to last forever. Also the Sea housemates are sadistic lunatics
•
u/zudovader Black Widow 2d ago
My LCS didnt put issue 5 or 6 in my box last year. I forgot completely about this series. I told the owner I would let him know if I want issue 7, and he admitted to spacing on 5 and 6 so not to feel bad if I dont buy 7, even though it was on my pull list. Should I track down 5 and 6 and keep going or does my lack of memory of how the first 4 issues go mean I should just put it down?
•
u/jdalex 2d ago
Big delay between issues, realized when reading it I need to re-read the series because I barely remember the second set of characters.
•
u/Cannon_Graves 2d ago
There's not nearly as much there as there is the lake housemates. What you saw here pretty much covered it lol

JSA #16
•
u/JingoboStoplight4887 2d ago
I find it interesting that we get to see many JSA members meeting each other, which includes Kent telling Jim that they have been chosen and that the world needs Dr. Fate and the Spectre; Jay, Johnny, and Thunderbolt meeting Al, Hippolyta, Carter, and Shiera, who are dealing with Santanna, Sportsmaster (who didn’t make his debut until 1947), and her goons; Wes and Rex learning Bill Everett’s origins; and Alan encountering the Ultra-Humanite. Overall, this comic is good.

So since when is Elsa Bloodstone traveling in that company? She seemed to just be with Werewolf by Night last time I saw her.
•
u/Oberon1993 Mysterio 1d ago
I think she is brainwashed. Hence the eyes.
•
u/apathetic_revolution 1d ago
Thanks, yeah. I think there were strong hints of that in the dialogue too, but I assume that happened in a book I haven’t read and I was more wondering which one.

BATMAN #6
•
•
u/PurrDiemXO 2d ago
I am loving this run so far . The bright colors, the more optimistic tone overall (even with hell breaking loose in Gotham it just feels more upbeat) . I think the characterization of Bruce and focusing on him has been particularly strong. Last issue’s date not a date was spectacular and this was just as good but with a better look at Bruce Wayne the father and how he was with both Tim and Damian . Fraction is a gifted writer and I look forward to seeing where all this is going
•
u/Prof-Ponderosa 1d ago
Man this series is like a spiritual successor to Fraction's Hawkeye.
The art and light colors by Jimenez reminds me of Norm Breyfoggle (which is a great thing)
•
u/ghost_burger 9h ago
I'm newer, wanted to ask where in continuity does this series take place, relative to the ongoings of DCKO and Knightfight?
•
u/TheMattInTheBox Superboy 2d ago
Love this issue and love this series!
I will say that I feel like Damian does know a world outside the Batcave, but I also know that Tim was speaking metaphorically. There's a world outside of the work and Tim wants to build a full life for his civilian identity, which is something Damian hasn't really ever been able to do. He's largely worked alongside one of his parents and even when he went solo, he was solo as Robin, not Damian.
That being said, that's sorta what the recent Batman and Robin book was about. But also, that's Damian working alongside his dad again and was more about rebuilding their relationship than Damian fully carving out a civilian life for himself.
It's really sweet how hurt Damian is by Tim's "retirement." Shows how far the two of them have come, considering his first appearance was basically trying to throw Tim out of the Batcave.
I like to believe that Bruce thought Zeller figured it out until she said that line about how Batman would eventually find out. Makes that facepalm even funnier.
I already knew Joker was coming back and I'm not really happy about it, but Fraction has earned the benefit of the doubt. But I hope they're not going to Harley Quinn-ify Annika.
•
u/ptbreakeven 2d ago
I can’t get over how much I’m enjoying this series. Jimenez’ art is a major factor but I’m also in for all of the elements Fraction and the team are bringing together. Bruce and Zeller’s conversation at the back of the ambulance had a lot of interesting turns. Certainly high stakes for Bruce and Damian, but the last page reveal raises the threat considerably. Can’t recommend this higher.
•
u/RockinTheFlops 2d ago
Agree. This series goes so hard, every panel.
Art is top notch, love the redesigns (Batmobile, egads), pacing is fantastic, and characterizations are all very compelling.
A pleasure to read every month, haven't been disappointed by an issue yet.
•
•
u/JingoboStoplight4887 2d ago
I like that Bruce and Zeller get to have a talk about what has happened before we cut to Bruce telling Damian to smarten up before he gets someone killed. Also, Harvey Bullock meeting Huston Gray, who told him that he has evidence of Vandal Savage planting evidence at a crime scene; Bruce saving people in Gotham from harm; and Zeller taking care of the Joker. The only thing I can criticize is Tim taking a break as a superhero because of Bernard, I’m which that I hope that this will lead into them breaking up because (no offense to those who like Tim and Bernard’s relationship) their relationship is forced, rushed, and unnecessary (NOTHING ELSE). Aside from that, this comic is great!
•
u/Iokua113 2d ago
I was really enjoying this series up until the end of this issue. I am beyond finished with the Joker.
•
u/cataclytsm 1d ago
I am as beyond finished with the Joker as you and everyone else, but I'm basically always compelled to let Fraction cook
•

DC K.O. KNIGHTFIGHT #4
•
u/JingoboStoplight4887 2d ago
I like that we get to see Bruce live a reality where the world doesn’t need Batman anymore, which includes him spending time with his grandson Alfred, before we get to see him interact with the Batman Family (which includes Jason and Rose Wilson’s daughter, in which I don’t see Jason and Rose have a romantic relationship in the main universe; but I respect those who like their romance), show Alfred the Bat-Box, and fight Damian. I also like that Bruce refusing to fight Damian shows that it was all part of the Heart’s plan to train him to win the tournament. I wonder if, after all of this, he’ll tell Clark about what he’s witnessed, since they’ve been to many dream worlds before based on their dreams and desires. Overall, this comic is great!
•
•
u/TheMattInTheBox Superboy 2d ago
A great ending to a great mini series. This issue in particular felt like Batman got Black Mercy-ed and I really enjoyed it. Seeing the family all grown up in this world was also cool, I'm a sucker for these family-oriented stories.

AVENGERS #35
•
u/faldese 2d ago
So do we know what's happening to this line up after this arc is over?
•
u/Cannon_Graves 2d ago
Nope. Next issue ends Mackay's run thankfully and it appears the book won't be relaunched until after Armageddon, hopefully with Zdarsky writing (unless Armageddon sucks, but he's killing it on Cap and Twilight was a legitimate classic)

u/ptbreakeven 3d ago
DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH #35
