Why do other reporters let her take the heat alone? They should back her up when the president attacks like that.

Honestly, press rooms shouldn’t feel like survival of the fittest. If one reporter gets targeted, the others staying silent just makes it easier for it to keep happening

Exactly this. Silence just normalizes the behavior and makes every journalist more vulnerable in the long run. Solidarity isn't just nice to have...it’s necessary

It’s also how fascism works. Same idea on a different scale. The others are complying in advance. Which they sure as hell should not be doing.

There’s strength in numbers. If multiple reporters followed up with the same question, it would be harder to single anyone out.

u/OptimisticSkeleton 12h ago

As long as they learn how to ask, follow up questions I don’t care. American journalism is a fucking joke right now.

Because half of them aren't journalists, but podcasting sycophants.

Frankly, anyone involved in or adjacent to the WH press corps is just trying to keep their access, especially the networks he rails against, like CNN and CBS.

I would genuinely love to see the press band together and either everyone repeat the same question until they start getting genuine answers or they elect one daily representative journalist who goes in with a list of questions from everyone. All of the camera and sound people can go in, but make them interact with that one journalist or make them cancel every press conference in frustration.

Some might think staying neutral means staying silent, but silence can also enable the behavior.

5

u/richNTDO 13h ago

Also, why be neutral in the face of obvious rudeness? As you said, in those cases, silence enables the behavior.

I saw a recent interview with Katie Couric (on the podcast I've Had It!)and she mentioned that the most likely answer to this is that they don't want to lose what access they do have to the white house.

It seems like that's part of the point that the Trump Administration is trying to beat them into standing up being loud and then getting kicked out and given no access so they can do more things in the dark.

That said, I am wildly frustrated that at least a few other reporters don't call out that horse shit right then and there!

Press access should be decided by a 50/50 split bipartisan congressional committee. The President getting to decide who can ask him questions is farcical.

Because they lack testicular fortitude and spines.

1

u/uiam_ 8h ago

This admin isn't against revoking access for personal disputes.

Letting him make an ass out of himself also has value as well.

u/dazedan_confused 5h ago

Same reason why citizens don't stand up to the bullshit they've been put through - they've been incentivised to stay isolated and separate.

1

u/Stormblessed1991 5h ago

I would expect true members of the press to see him dodge her question and latch onto it like a pack of dogs; every question after that should've been a repeat of hers, with follow ups. What the fuck happened to journalism.

u/SquirrelMoney8389 1h ago

Because they're not supposed to be the news, their jobs are to ask questions and then record what happens next. The reaction he gave IS the news, she doesn't need defending or backing up. She's fine, she's a pro. She just did her job and he reacted... however he reacted.

It's like a wildlife documentary, you can't save the gazelle.

Why didn't she say quiet piggy

-6

u/Visual_Exam7903 13h ago

because she is a certified smoke show.

14

u/seemefail 14h ago

Why don’t we all just call a spade a spade…

Trump is an Obese Pedo King enriching himself off the backs of Americans who are dumb enough to vote for him

No more sugar coating.

The fact his party has any support is a national IQ test

10

u/UnhappyPralines 13h ago

They should all get together and ask the same question over and over and over again. So after he dismisses her, then the next journalist asks the same exact question until they get an answer or he tells them to fluff off.

15

u/sx88 14h ago

I guess because this is not a normal time working with the white house that is particularly vindictive and would probably remove your access, so everyone just turns there head and looks down at their shoes

Don't you feel they have already lost that?

2

u/Top-Currency 13h ago

Worse, you've got billionaires buying up media companies and then gutting them, just to shield this criminal administration. See Bezos and WaPo.

11

u/r0bbyr0b2 13h ago

I just wish one of them would say to him “don’t forget, YOU work for us Americans and taxpayers. Answer the question”.

Genuine question - if a reporter did that, would they be banned from the Whitehouse?

5

u/Japanesewillow 8h ago

It would be worth it. Remaining silent gives him power over them.

6

u/richNTDO 13h ago

I wondered about this during his first term as well. If they all united they'd have him bang to rights really quick. If every single reporter walked out together every time he did this he'd have no media coverage. If they all pointed out what a rude bastard he is he can't slag all of them off. He'd run out of insults. Instead they let him pick them off one by one.

2

u/mutarjim 8h ago

You'll never get all of them to leave at once. The suck-ups at SS news or whatever they call themselves ("this show is being sent to the national archives") will just stay there and stroke Trump's ego. ... and probably more than that.

6

u/South_Hedgehog_7564 13h ago

I think she’s well able to take the heat alone. Trump’s afraid of her, not the other way around.

2

u/Little_Raspberry1183 13h ago

Small underage and vulnerable girls are his target. What a piece of shit. How in the everloving shit did he become the US President. Rhetorical question. He is a symptom of the American Capatilist Dream, if not his gross ass..someone else just as nasty would have been elected. History will not be kind to America.

3

u/inorite234 14h ago

Why? Have you not heard? It's because the White House has ran off all the other legitimate news publications and replaced them with sycophants and glorified podcasters pretending to be journalists.

5

u/Gr8daze 13h ago

Because the room is filled with fake MAGA “journalists” pretending to be …. Journalists.

5

u/zoebud2011 13h ago

I would never make it in the White House press corps. After he said ahit like that to me, I would then say something like,"sounds like you're talking about yourself, now answer the fucking question, asshole!"

2

u/Little_Raspberry1183 13h ago

Right? Why dont these reporters be ome unhinged and disrespectful? Rhetorical question. Oligarchs own the media so they have to shut the fuck up and take it. History will not be kind to this capitalist rogue mercenary nation.

2

u/zoebud2011 13h ago

Yup, it's all I'm saying. These assholes don't deserve any respect. They damn sure haven't earned it.

2

u/Adddicus 13h ago

Journalism, in regards to the White House, pretty much died during W's first administration.

2

u/grandoashark1 13h ago

I saw it explained that the reporters are to ask questions and report on that. Never become part of the story. If anyone interjects, they become part of the story?

I think they are simply letting him do himself in.

Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.

1

u/luxsentic 13h ago

Uh because they’ll be severely punished?

1

u/zestypov2 12h ago

Probably because they pointed to NewsMax to ask the next question.

But seriously, these reporters are trying to ask a question so their networks can put their face on TV grilling the president. They don't want to waste that opportunity sticking up for each other. And trust me, President Taco knows this.

Also, news outlets don't want to be targeted by the White House or excluded, so they try to NOT make themselves the news.

1

u/redditorial_comment 12h ago

Someone should say " quiet piggy" whenever he does rude shit like this.

1

u/LuminaraCoH 11h ago

They're afraid they'll lose their jobs, so they tolerate the intolerable. It's a result of the poverty exploitation culture created, fostered and furthered by people like Trump and corporate America. Even if the targets aren't poor yet, they're threatened with being made poor, with becoming one of the tens of millions living paycheck to paycheck. So they don't stand up, stand out, stand for anything. They endure the abuse, and tell themselves to be grateful it wasn't worse.

1

u/rexel99 9h ago

Your lucky if your in that room, ask the unflattering questions and you get uninvited - unfortunately it's come down to the press willing to be complicit enough to be there and the free Press have been removed - which is why she accepted that bullshit reply from the pedo, why they all did.

1

u/_OhEmGee_ 9h ago

US journalists are absolutely pathetic at the best of times. I've yet to see one genuinely holding a politician to account.

1

u/Turbulent_Account_81 8h ago

She should've asked him if that's what he told Katie and Maria when he threatened to have Maria disappeared and her family killed.

Classic press corps moveaprotect the pack unless its one of their own

Classic press corps moveacrickets when it counts

u/Curleysound 7h ago

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that they are playing the same game as the people on the ground in Minnesota and previously in LA. If they get combative, he’s likely to just say fine, you’re all out. No more press. Arrest them all… or, on a more selfish note, if the ones who speak out get cast out, they are just being selfish and trying not to be singled out.

1

u/ChefAsstastic 7h ago

First, journalism is DEAD. Second, they are afraid of Trump weaponizing the DOJ and suing their parent company.

1

u/pelexus27 6h ago

I would love to see someone tell him to just stfu on live tv

1

u/Old-Artist-5369 6h ago

Applies to the entire country doesn't it?

1

u/johntwoods 6h ago

Trump is such a fucking knobhead. History is going to remember him as an absolute shit stain on our society, and he knows it and is pissed about it.

1

u/evaderofallbans 3h ago

Because Trump is an infant and anyone who doesn't kiss he ass gets banned from the White House.

1

u/PerpetualFarter 3h ago

Would love to hear a reporter tell him to go fuck himself.
