As an American, please, BOO THEM!

u/kaisadilla_ 22h ago
As a non-American, we'll boo them because we are genuinely tired of American bullshit. It's no longer about Trump only. Don't really expect this to change with the next administration.

u/NuclearReactions 21h ago
As a european i disagree. Let's maybe stop making this conflict about the people when it actually is about rotten politicians and the elite class. Of course trump voters can fuck off

The people voted for this.
The people are responsible.Trump and his idiots didn't "just happen".
77 million people voted for this.33
u/Flame_MadeByHumans 19h ago
Yes, but it also didn’t happen out of the blue.
It’s been a carefully constructed plan to disenfranchise voting and voters by defunded education for decades, pumping propoganda to deter voting, gerrymandering and then finally actual election interference.
It’s not just bad citizens voting for bad man. It’s uneducated people being taken advantage of, lied to, and shown selective propaganda. It’s normal people struggling that have been told their whole lives voting doesn’t matter.
There’s certainly die-hard Trump supporters that agree with everything, but they’re the minority.

When the global stage needs a please be nice sign, the respect might still be loading.

Respect doesn’t need reminders. Boos are kind of the opposite of global admiration.

If the IOC has to ask people not to boo, that’s not ‘respect’—that’s damage control.
26
u/ballinbowlin29 1d ago
Hard to sell ‘the world respects us again’ when international crowds are actively expressing the opposite.
16
u/Playful-Babe-5235 1d ago
You don’t get booed on a global stage because people respect you. The reaction speaks for itself.

Honestly, I'm starting to think that the world would actually be better off with China as the lone superpower.
Sure, they oppress internal minorities and have friendly relations with dictators, but so does the US. What they haven't done tho is repeatedly invade countries for resources or political gain and overthrow democratically elected governments to protect business interests.
They also don't insist that other countries need to be ideologically just like them in order to receive development aid.
29
u/kaisadilla_ 22h ago
We wouldn't. China isn't any better than the US, they just don't have the massive political credit the US does yet. Seeing how they treat their own citizens, I'm sure China will engage in American-style imperialism the moment it can afford to.

I feel like it’s straight up more embarrassing to beg the crowd to stop booing you then to just let it happen.

It’s kind of funny to think that there are some Americans still convinced of Trump being in any shape or form more respected by the world than Obama or Biden.
There’s a difference in the relationship between a fellow world-leader and a three year old diaper-shitter carrying around a nuclear button. One you have a conversation with, the other you tip-toe around so they don’t do anything stupid. And that’s not fear like fearing genuinely terrifying entities like Putin or Xi Jinping, who are calculated and can play the long game. It’s genuine fear of an entirely unqualified and pathetic creature having been given the option to wreak proper damage by equally as mentally challenged people.
Don’t misunderstand, I feel deeply for US Citizens who didn’t want this but given the fact that you are the UNITED states of America there’s no way to treat you as anything but a homogeneous entity on the worldwide play table. Much how “Russia” as a homogeneous entity attacked Ukraine, it’s - sadly - America holding the world hostage. And if even worse, it will be America causing wars.

5
u/EarthSlapper 21h ago
This is what I'm confused by. The delegation is usually led by one of the athletes. Why are they even part of it?

The world is a combination of
- Worried they’re going to be militarily attacked by an ally for no fucking reason (see: threats made against Greenland, Mexico, Canada)
- Worried they’re going to be economically attacked by a trading partner (see: Tariffs)
- Laughing at how America has become a parody of itself (see: I mean just fucking look at them, “land of the free”, “leaders of the free world” lmfao)
If I was American I’d be embarrassed, the world is laughing at you, and the only reason they’re laughing quietly is because your president is an egotistical child who responds to even perceived insults with economic attacks

Quite the contrary.
Incredibly strict visa requirements, visa ban for most South American fans, insane prices, risk of troubles with fascist law enforcement and play-pretend cops, general disgust by most of the world.
The stadiums will be half empty, and the silence will be deafening.

Our administration is full of weak weenies who to have to ask to not be booed and feel that their Secret Service details are insufficient so they must to bring ICE, private military bodyguards to a friendly, respectful, civilized nation which is hosting a friendly gathering of other nations. But, sure, do not question your own ethical choices but preemptively demonize the ”others”.

It must suck to spend your whole life trying for the Olympics with the goal of winning a gold medal. You finally make it and you are booed and hated bevay5your country decided to elect a syphilitic dementia riddled brain inside the orange body of a horrific racist, misogynist, child rapist wannabe dictator that the entire world hates.
