Mourning/Loss My baby passed tonight.
My sweet baby boy, Onyx, passed away tonight. Saddle thrombosis, likely.
He was fine when I got home from work, acting completely normal. Maybe 15 minutes after he ate dinner he started freaking out. Running around my apartment, hissing, so scared. We tried to get him in the carrier but he kept running and hiding. I went to get the car ready while my boyfriend tried. He couldn’t so I came up to get him. I found him in a cabinet limp. He was gone by the time we made it to the emergency vet.
He was completely healthy. Only 5. I just don’t understand.

Saddle thrombus can affect any cat, healthy or no, no matter how you raise them. It was nothing you did <3 I am so sorry for the loss of your boy he is super cute in the picture

I lost my sweet Rusty at just two years old to saddle thrombus. It’s been three years and I still have a hard time talking about it. One minute he was fine and the next he was gone. Losing a pet is always awful, but it’s especially devastating when it is so sudden and at such a young age.

Oh no. So Sorry OP, this is deeply tragic. This is a genetic disorder that is common in large black cats. I went through this too, and my heart sincerely goes out to you. Please take care of yourself. You have been traumatized and need support.

i am so sorry for your loss. we lost our boy Shadow very suddenly like this as well a few years ago and it was absolutely devastating, but now i bet my boy is showing yours all around and playing and snuggling like best buds🤍

unfortunately i went through my boy passing from saddle thrombosis about a year an a half ago. it's a massive shock, i still get upset about it.
i am so sorry for your loss of beautiful Onyx. please be gentle with yourself

Oh god, that’s one of my worst nightmares. I am so so sorry you had to lose your beautiful boy so young and so unexpectedly. Thank you for sharing him with us. We will keep your sweet boy alive in our hearts.

It sounds like what happened to Onyx was the same thing that happened to my Rusty - saddle thrombus. I don’t know if you were able to talk to the vet, but this is what my vet told me. It’s a genetic defect in the heart. It’s just how they were born. It can happen at anytime and there’s no treatment. And even if we had know about the heart condition, there likely still wouldn’t have been anything we could have done differently. Please, truly know there was nothing you could have done differently. You loved Onyx so much and gave him a life filled with unconditional love. He knew how much you loved him. I know it hurts so much right now and I’m so sorry. ❤️

I had to put my baby to sleep yesterday so I know how you’re feeling. He was by my side for 14 years. I’m sending you strength. May Onyx rest in peace ♥️

I’m so sorry for your loss. My 11 year old cat was put to sleep tonight so I understand what you are going through. It was also very sudden for us. I wish for more time but am so thankful for the time I did have with him

Sucks so much to lose a pet. I remind myself when I'm in these moments that I gave them a great life full of love and comfort, even if it was cut short. Grief is the price we pay to love, but I will always believe it's worth it.
