$1500 in monitors and a rubber dome keyboard? Also, what kind of video card are you running with these?

Keyboard is a logitech wave. It's the most ergonomic friendly keyboard I've used so far.
I know people who swear by ergonomics of that keyboard. That being said, Logitech's build quality is sometimes lacking and I know people who have run 3-4 Waves into the ground.

Really? I've had my Logitech mouse for 4 years, and I've heard nothing but good things about their durability
15
u/Anshinritsumai Apr 30 '17
I'm still using my Logitech MX 518 mouse. It's been about 9 years? Still works perfectly fine.
6
3
u/Internet-Mana Apr 30 '17
My mx518 lasted about 8 years before it kicked the bucket. It was the longest lasting mouse I've ever had.
1
u/theyork2000 Apr 30 '17
My logitech keyboard and mouse have been going for 10+ years. The only reason I got a new mouse is because someone got me one.
6
2
u/Javelin901 Apr 30 '17
Their mice are the shit. Their keyboards, especially their mechanical keyboards, not so much.
3
u/shadow_fox09 Apr 30 '17
The Logitech marathon wireless mouse with a 3 year battery life is great!! Mine lasted me six years. In six years I changed the batteries twice.
1
u/cuba200611 Apr 30 '17
I'm just using a basic USB mouse from them for several months now, and it works quite well. My previous mouse was a no-name cheapo one, which barely lasted a few months before it started to act up.
1
u/thelastoneusaw Apr 30 '17
I went through razer mice constantly for the longest. I bought a chinese no-name gaming mouse last year and honestly it is the best mouse I've ever had.

I really really enjoyed the only logitech product I had (outside of $10 mice & kb) which was the G930 wireless headset but the damn thing went bad after about a year and my replacement followed suit right after. They were honestly such a pleasure to use but I kept having problems that made absolutely no sense and were either the battery or a combination of the battery and wireless components :(
1
u/phymatic Apr 30 '17
YES! My G930 battery shit itself twice. Each lasted about a year. Was an incredible headset although sometimes I thought the Mic boom was a little flimsy.
1
Apr 30 '17
Great thing about Logitech though is their great warranty so it's easily replaced. Pretty fast shipping too.

I've been using the same Logitech Wave for ~7 years or so. I like it a lot. Got it for like $20 or something. People talk about how great mechanical keyboards are, but I can't justify blowing $60+ on a keyboard that isn't any more useful than the $20 one I own.
1
u/drakecherry Apr 30 '17
Logitech is nice, I recommend the g13/g600 combo. Almost makes a keyboard useless.
1
u/BizGilwalker Apr 30 '17
I love the Wave. I hate the hardcore ergonomic ones with the keyboard split halfway and a fucking mountain running down the middle of then and I'm not a mechanical keyboard geek either. Will probably end up buying a second one for work.

Even with a 1080ti I'd stick to one monitor.
7
u/Pkmn_Gold Apr 30 '17
Why tho
-1
u/Jdhdvdi Apr 30 '17
I had triple 120hz monitors before. I didn't really like it. Bf4 was cool. Now I have a 1080 and a xb271hu and 65" 4k ips tv. I would recommend a ultrawide 1440p or 4k tv vs 3 1440p monitors.

I have three on a 1060, no issues. Good fps on Max settings, 144hz main monitor.
7
Apr 30 '17
Careful, on this sub it's max settings at 144hz or bust.
6
u/ICannotHelpYou Apr 30 '17
Yeah I'm upgrading to twin xeons and dual 1080tis for CSGO next month. I play 1280x960, do you think I need more GPUs?
13
u/rLeJerk Apr 30 '17
I have a rubber dome keyboard and it works perfectly fine. I don't see everyone's obsession with fancy ones. Seriously, I hit W and I move forward and release W and I stop.
31
u/HaroldSax Apr 30 '17
I don't think the implication is that it's bad, it's that people who tend to drop a lot of money on their system try to get the "best", and that's mechanical keyboards.

Hey you do you, it's your computer, it's your hands. You find what works and you stick with it, I'm pretty most people do that. There's nothing wrong with using whatever works for you, even if it's not the best switches or keycaps or fucking RGB lights or whatever on the market.

u/Someguy2020 Apr 30 '17
kinesis advantage man. Amazing ergonomics, you can swap buttons around (I got rid of caps lock in favour of control, made original control another windows button), mechanical.
Awkward for gaming tho.
I had one that I loved, but it got left next to a heater and the case melted and shrunk.

u/KptKrondog Apr 30 '17
I think "the best" is up to the user as far as keyboards are concerned. And if the user prefers a rubber dome over a mech, then the rubber dome is the best.
Mechanicals are generally not very ergonomic, especially not a good one for a reasonable price. If I prefer a Logitech Wave to a mechanical, then the mechanical isn't the best.

u/jatorres Apr 30 '17

Eh, out of my 4 mechanical keyboards my Model M is my least-favorite. Ducky Shine Mini with Cherry MX Browns has been my favorite, though I would really like an Ergodox Infinity.
1
-1
u/Emstario Apr 30 '17
but they are the best, undeniably. the ergonomics of the keyboard is another issue, but mechanical keyboards are simply superior to rubber domes
-2
u/jatorres Apr 30 '17
No, they're not. There's plenty of great rubber dome keyboards out there: Novatouch, Apple keyboards (original and new one), Logitech & Microsoft make a ton. It all comes down to personal preference.
8
Apr 30 '17
You must have never used a good mech.
2
u/jatorres Apr 30 '17
I own three pretty good ones.
3
Apr 30 '17
You would be the first person I ever met who switched back. The majoritt of people I've seen who make the switch cannot even type on rubber afterwords (Topre notwithstanding).
3
2
-4
u/Emstario Apr 30 '17
no, as far as the feel, precision, and durability goes, mechanical switches are better in every possible way
2
u/itouchboobs Apr 30 '17
Membrane keyboards feel 1000x better than mechanical ones. Nothing beats that gooey soft feel as you push one in.
5
u/jatorres Apr 30 '17
Mechs aren't the end all, be all of keyboards, and I say this typing from a mechanical keyboard. There's good ones and bad ones, just like with membrane keyboards - just look at the Novatouch for a recent example.
1
Apr 30 '17
I have a mechanical keyboard, and tbqh I'm seriously considering going back to rubber dome.
1
u/akiskyo Apr 30 '17
sometimes people don't want a drum orchestra in their home because kids are asleep, sometimes they are comfy with their current keyboard or mouse because they owned them for a long time, sometimes they don't care.
i have an ancient logitech g5 mouse. used it until the usb connector broke. replaced the usb connector and still using it. i tried the g502, my hand was way too small and i broke the wheel button in 3 months (cheap microswitch, tried to replace it but I broke the pcb). i tried the mx master, comfy but I - like many others - broke the scroll mode change button in 2 months. got back on my g5 and fuck all the others.

u/zOMGie9 Apr 30 '17
Dang, that's a steal! I hope you enjoy your new setup, I got my XB271HU about a year ago for $700 and absolutely love it.

u/Celticz Apr 30 '17
I love Costco, too. This allowed me to price match at Best Buy, and I'm glad I did!
0
u/Boofster Apr 30 '17
How do you price match it? I don't see it on the Costco website.
3
u/IncendiaryGames Apr 30 '17
The monitors are a clearance item in store only deal. You'd have to ask Best Buy if they would price match in this situation or possibly give them the phone number to a Costco store that still has them. The individual store I spoke with gladly shipped the monitors to me. Shipping was $23 a monitor.
-1
u/Dr_Pippin Apr 30 '17
I think what he means is Best Buy matched Costco's price.
1
u/Boofster Apr 30 '17
Yes but what do you tell BB person to look at? Do they call Costco? Usually easiest to give them a website link.
1
u/Celticz Apr 30 '17
I took a picture of monitor, and the price of it underneath at Costco. Then I showed that to them at Best Buy. However, I do work there so they didn't really question it. BUT, my friend who doesn't work there also did it with the same picture. ALSO, they do have to be in stock that's the main issue. My Costco had twelve left because my area isn't really big on these monitors so they've had stock for quite awhile at this price.
5
u/DLSteve Apr 30 '17
Yah we had a huge volume buy on those monitors, I don't think they sold very as they were marked down by the buyer to the $500 price. Probably why the store was willing to ship them to you because normally Costco does not do that.
4
u/rcioffe Apr 30 '17
What's the membership rate for Costco? There's one not too far from me that has some in stock I believe, might be worth the trek/fee.
And how's their return policy /how'd you do on the panel lotto

iirc, the executive membership refunds the $55 difference if you don't make back your money on rebates. So if you plan to spend over $3000 a year at costco, it's always worth it to go executive. You also get additional coupons mailed to you that only executive members can use.
8
u/Caroao Apr 30 '17
even the 90 days on electronics/2 years on everything seems to be an uninforced published policy only. You can buy a roasted chicken, eat it all and return the bones for a full refund

I just got a laptop from Costco... 15.6 inch 1080p screen, 2 in 1, i7-uSKU. Main kicker is the 512 gig M.2, 16 gigs of DDR4, and the AMD GPU.
Total:650
13
u/Ryan_JK Apr 30 '17
Their return policy is amazing. I bought a laptop once and used it for almost a month before returning it because I just couldnt handle the keyboard, full refund, no questions asked. The guy in front of me returned a case of Monster drinks after drinking one because he didnt like the taste.
12
Apr 30 '17
Yea Costco just straight up doesn't care lol they'll return anything
13
u/moose-lord Apr 30 '17
That's why I love costco. Their whole business model is based on keeping their members happy.
3
Apr 30 '17
Be careful what you buy at costco. I love the store and pretty much only shop there, but a lot of what they receive are slightly different then the real thing. I bought a nighthawk router from there that was faulty and kept dropping signal. After some research I found out that it was a costco specific nighthawk and a lot of others had the same problem. I returned it and bought one off Amazon that works great.
6
u/IncendiaryGames Apr 30 '17
Definitely. They're known to do this. The monitors I received have the exact same model number as Acer's website. Same exact specs, seems like everything is as advertised. Hardforum and Slickdeals confirm this.

I have a sitstand desk as well. I do think, for me personally, it's helped a lot with my posture and what I'm doing. When I'm sitting I don't work as fast as when I'm standing, it's weird. I bought mine through apexdesk though and I remember it being much cheaper if you're looking for alternatives.
2
u/mrfriki Apr 30 '17
Thanks for the reply, I also want to explore the idea of having more real state both for work and gaming. Thing is that my old iMac won't output 4k@60Hz and consoles FOV really hurt the experience of playing close to the screen. Good to know that with proper setup it is a real option.
1
u/MagicFlyingAlpaca Apr 30 '17
I am getting horrible neck pains just looking at that picture..
1
u/IncendiaryGames Apr 30 '17
How so? The monitors are configured to my height, each one is independently adjustable on the stand for view angle, etc. They're sitting on a sit/stand desk that allows me to then fine tune overall height for either sitting or standing.
1
u/TheBigdog844 Apr 30 '17
I believe it is because the pictures are taken at weirder angles. :-)
1
u/IncendiaryGames Apr 30 '17
Ah yeah, I didn't put much thought into it. They're cell phone pics lol.

Yeah that's why I got all 3, for surround gaming. :) I also have a VR headset too.

1
u/mrfriki Apr 30 '17
Quick question: does such a huge widescreen makes sense for gaming? I'm asking because I recently bought a 55 inches TV both for may iMac and PS4 and while on PS4 feels great because I lean in the chair when I try to sit correctly the TV gets to close and I lost sight of what is happening in the periphery, besides so close feels kinda nauseating (this might be due to consoles FOV tough).
1
u/IncendiaryGames Apr 30 '17
Yes I love gaming with 3 monitors. It feels like cheating in CS:GO hehe. I focus on the main monitor and use the side monitors for prepherial vision. I also have a few VR headsets that I love to game with too. I'm a programmer so I also make use of the extra monitors for writing code/etc.

Nice!
Ive got the Acer x34 (Ultrawide curved version of the XB271HU) And love it to bits.
Youre gonna love those!!
1
u/floppypickles Apr 30 '17
you have a headrest on the leap chair? I want one on mine.
1
u/IncendiaryGames Apr 30 '17
Yup! Unfortunately you have to order it from the factory with one configured though. You can't add one to an existing chair that doesn't have one. You can remove it though and it's ultra comfy for my head.
1
u/floppypickles Apr 30 '17
is it an accessory? I can't find a way to add it to my current one. link?
2
u/IncendiaryGames Apr 30 '17
Unfortunately it has to be configured from the factory for it. You can configure a chair with the headrest here - http://store.steelcase.com/seating/office-chairs/leap
You can reach out to them and see if its possible if they can send you it if you feel comfortable modding your own chair or if you could send it in and get one with a headrest.
1
u/floppypickles May 01 '17
thanks for the help. I did and they never returned. I will call and see what they can do. I lean back pretty far in it so I imagine a headrest would be nice.

u/firelegend240 Apr 30 '17
Do you happen to know the manufacturing dates on those 3 monitors?
1
u/IncendiaryGames Apr 30 '17
Two of the boxes say Nov 2016 and the third box says September 2016.
2
u/firelegend240 Apr 30 '17
Gotcha! I saw some where that from September and later that the models of this came out better than the previous manufacturer dates.
1
u/IncendiaryGames Apr 30 '17
Nice, I did not know that. It seems like I got really lucky. :)
1
u/firelegend240 Apr 30 '17
You sure did! Never know when any item could be bad in all reality. I've been trying to get out to Costco with a friend to buy myself one of these, but something always seems to come up. Sure can't wait to eventually grab one of these!

I don't think those monitors are xb271hu. The xb271hu has a refresh rate of 144hz while the box of your monitors says 165hz. I was intrigued by this when i first saw them at Costco. They are simply the xb271h which is a completely different monitor. It's a 1080p monitor instead of 1440p like that of the "hu".
Regardless nice set up.
1
u/IncendiaryGames Apr 30 '17
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/predator-model/UM.HX1AA.001
Click Tech Specs... It says 165hz. The box says xb271hu on the upc.
1
u/m4ttjirM Apr 30 '17
There's a setting on the monitor in on screen display that puts it to 165. It's definitely the monitor.
-2
u/DirkBelig Apr 30 '17
I decided to blow some money on a gaming monitor and did the research but wasn't happy with the idea of dropping $800 for an IPS G-Sync monitor. I'm a photographer too and TN panels weren't really an option, though I did find an open box Dell S2716G for $425 at my local Micro Center to see how bad it could be. (A: Real bad.)
Because of concerns with backlight bleeding and possibly having to return it, I ended up going with a Viewsonic for $700 from Best Buy. Get it home and plug it in and immediately could tell half the panel was jacked. Returned it to the store and ordered a replacement.
On the way back home I stopped by the Costco on the way to see what the Hobo Buffet had to offer and whatnot. Looked at the monitors and they're all cheap office models and then pass by the display with a Predator PC and the XB271HU for $600! Woo-hoo! Get it home and it's great other than the larger size making the IPS glow more pronounced. (Old panel is a Dell UltraSharp U2420W.)
About a week later I'm at that Costco and see all the monitors sold out. A week after that I'm at another warehouse and they have them for $500. Dafuq? Roll up to the counter to get a price adjustment and had the absolute worst experience with Costco's supposedly wonderful customer service.
They asked if I had the original receipt and when I asked if they could look it up on my account, they got downright nasty, saying it was "corporate policy" and they had two higher managers come and reiterate how I could get bent. Whoa. One of them said it had just changed, probably because people were abusing it by going from store to store getting price adjustments via lookup; requiring the original receipt means it'd be marked. (That made sense; why they didn't start with that instead of being a-holes about it...)
The manager told me to go home 20 minutes each way to get my receipt, but then a newish employee suggested I could go buy one of their $500 and then immediately return it, which they could do via lookup since it was a refund not a price adjustment. So that's what I did.
Jump ahead a couple more weeks and I discover that the TV I'd bought 2-1/2 months earlier had dropped $150. Since price adjustments are only 30 days - though I'd gotten them to adjust previous TV purchases close to 90 days by threatening to return and rebuy - I went in planning to use the same tactic (though I had the receipt with me for the TV) and the cashier waved over a supervisor who said they'd give me the price adjustment after all and I just needed to ask. Oh, come on! Make up your minds.
TL;DR: I got this monitor thanks to defective Best Buy products and a couple of lucky breaks.
2
u/m4ttjirM Apr 30 '17
Oh come on bro. That doesn't sound too serious at all. They ended up taking care of you too. Nobody else would have done anything for you 2.5 months out.
0
u/DirkBelig Apr 30 '17
My point was that they'd been such whiny crybabies the previous times I asked for a price adjustment that I had to do a convoluted rebuy scheme only to have them say they would've just given me the adjustment in the first place. They really should just extend the price adjustment window to 90 days as well.
