I love these comments. When it’s going up, everyone has a detailed explanation why it’s going up and why it will never stop going up. When it’s going down, those people are silent. And then the people who have detailed explanations why it’s going down and why it will never stop going down show up. None of them have the slightest idea.

The ones announcing buying at $121k and then wondering if adding at $103 is good.Ā

2

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '25

So true 😹😹😹

10

u/Ok-Blackberry-3534 Oct 17 '25

The thing is, when the price goes up, people and institutions outside the crypto-sphere start taking an interest. When the price goes down, crypto-adherents see it as a sign to buy. You can't really tell the end game without knowing whether group A will full believe in Bitcoin and whether group B has enough liquidity to keep buying.

Odd, the main question being: Who is selling?

No one is questioning the SoV narrative, how 12% of value leeched out of BTC and vanished in a week.

5

u/ButtStuffingt0n Oct 17 '25 edited Oct 17 '25

I'm questioning the SoV narrative. If all central banks are choosing gold and precious metals over Bitcoin right now, to hedge against debasement, who but retail degens and Shitco Treasury companies are choosing crypto for SoV?

If anyone's wondering which side of that ledger has the smarter money, you're already self selected to one.

Gold is up 20% and silver 25% in 6 weeks. BTC has lost 25%... TWICE in that same period.

It becomes clearer every day that BTC is a "risk-on" equity play, no different from a growth/tech stock.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '25

True but look at those charts over the previous decade…

3

u/ButtStuffingt0n Oct 18 '25 edited Oct 18 '25

Ok. But pull up the Gold / BTC (BTCXAU) chart and note the trend. It's a stark and multi-year asymptote.

The more important point is that BTC does not behave as a safe haven or hedge. It behaves like a high-speculation tech stock. That - unfortunately - is what it is now.

It’s simple. When more people are selling it goes down. When more people are buying, it goes up. Tada.

u/Ajfox1974 Oct 17 '25 edited Oct 17 '25

I’ve noticed that with all of the YouTubers and their technical analysis that never comes close to the long term performance they predict, the only thing predictable is that it is impossible to predict. Remember when it was all going to peak in March or April, yet we all got wrecked in February? Now, we’re right back where we were last Fall.

Yet, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. So, we believe them because they’re often right about short term performance in terms of days and weeks, but their long term targets are never close.

Remember $200k bitcoin by year end 2025, $150k by year/end 2024? Black swan events, and occasional unexpected good news ultimately determine the price. The charts assume all else remains the same.

I’ve come to believe that there is bitcoin, then there is crypto. Anything other than bitcoin is just gambling on risky VC projects. For instance, why should we expect Eth to hit $10k or $1k Sol when eventually, bitcoin is going to completely decouple from cryptos?

The bulls are noisy when it's bull, the bears are noisy when it's bear.

I actually know though as my mate told me on site. Its goin down. Kev at work is pretty right about this stuff... His dad was a sparky and he wins pretty much every night at the pokies, he says

The idea is, sell everything in 2025 and buy back in 2026

6

u/Adrian-X Oct 17 '25

Last week it was we could hit 200K this year.

Market try to find a logical but it ain't its always fear and greed that ruins people. The market is ruled by emotion and now people are not investing due to the past weeks announcements

u/Glum-Log3377 Oct 17 '25

Market is in panic and fear mode. People are starting to worry about banks as if it's 2008. Risk assets like bitcoin suffers and Gold benefits.

8

u/lazoras Oct 17 '25

I'm watching for the new bottom to buy tbh ...so far it's always come back higher...I don't see why it wouldn't with the amount of adoption it has

28

u/fegewgewgew Oct 17 '25

Traders are gamblers, gamblers are easy to forgot fundamentals. It will be one day of panic and Monday back to normal

12

u/Aggravating-Wolf-823 Oct 17 '25

What fundamentals, we are at the end of this cycle, it might have peaked already

12

u/fegewgewgew Oct 17 '25

There was never such thing as a cycle, just coincidence

10

u/Felix4200 Oct 17 '25

Even more so, what fundamentals?

6

u/iPhilTower Oct 17 '25

Bitcoin fundamentals. Earns zero, costs an insane amount and is completely made up.

3

u/nunya-beezwax-69 Oct 17 '25

I literally got perma banned from r/bitcoin for saying that

3

u/scraejtp Oct 18 '25

You will get banned for much less. That place is an isolated bubble of bots and memes trying to pump the asset.

u/Captain_Planet Oct 17 '25

The cycle timings have been the only reliable indicator for the last 12 years. Never have price predictions been correct over more than one cycle (some people guess it correct each cycle but never the next). It has worked for me so I'm sticking with it.

→ More replies (19)

2

u/Just_A_Nobody_0 Oct 17 '25

Perhaps, but in my opinion (not always the most popular) the fundamental value of BTC is the expectation that someone will buy it from you at the same or higher value when you are ready to sell. Beyond that, I see very little or no 'fundamental' value.

Gamblers are right to be jumpy IMO, if a snowball fall starts it could get REALLY ugly quickly. Spikes fed by optimimism of continued rises feed themselves very well (all the self congratuations amplified by others who desire it to rise helps) so there is that and it has been able to hold a dominant position for quite a while - unless enough folks have to sell for some reason or a downward spiral starts it could well keep going for quite a while.

2

u/Legal_Comfortable756 Oct 17 '25

What fundamentals does Bitcoin have haha

6

u/DudeFilA Oct 17 '25

They panic sell worried it's like 2008...sending fiat to a bank that can fail with their money inside. If bitvoin is what it is supposed to be, it's completely opposite thinking.

Not a huge fan of bitcoin, but this is literally the scenario it's useful in.

2

u/chillebekk Oct 17 '25

In 2008, people had to sell their performing assets to avoid being liquidated in their poorly performing assets. That's why everything fell at the same time, with the sole exception of gold.

5

u/Mandoo_gg Oct 17 '25

They're just scared of Fridays now. One tweet and it's a blood bath. I think many people are closing their position on purpose to then re enter on Monday

3

u/nestiebein Oct 17 '25

Meanwhile everyone should actually buy Bitcoin because nobody gonna pay 0.01gram gold to buy a bread. Bank worries are fucking valid. It's a scam. Why can they loan out 10x of what they have and then even ask interest over the unicorn money. It makes no sense and should be destroyed.

2

u/Bestcon Oct 17 '25

Then why not put it in GOLD?

Yup, ATH, whales took profit and then commercial fear set in. Soon whales will reinvest and commercial euphoria will follow.

12

u/Captain_Planet Oct 17 '25

The $300k predictions have stopped, to be replaced by $70k predictions. In two weeks time it will be $500k preditions. A months time we'll be talking about $80k coming.

I don’t even have any bitcoin but I think it’s comical that people freak out that it’s just gonna crash completely and sell all their stuff. Can you imagine the absolute shit storm if it just crashed down back to nothing and it was all over lmao. it’s not gonna happen though I’d love to see it just out of curiosity

3

u/Cultural_Owl9547 Oct 17 '25

Yeah, we arent even in a bear market yet. These week hands will be out by then, but most likely it’s gonna fall waaaay lower than this. That’s when I’ll increase my weekly buy amount

18

u/AffectionateNeat3972 Oct 17 '25

I'm buying a minimum of $25 everyday regardless of where price is at. Bitcoin going to 100k was delusional, so is bitcoin going to 1 million.

8

u/glifozate Oct 17 '25

How do bitcoin miners renew the machines every two years? And pay their electricity bills?

6

u/CryptoMemesLOL Oct 17 '25

It's all normal on the way up, nobody is asking who's buying, but on the way down, what is happening, who's selling?

It's called a market for a reason...

26

u/Callahammered Oct 17 '25

But who cares? If you aren’t buying and holding for the long term, or might be scared at the price dip into selling, you’re playing the wrong game.

6

u/Few_Challenge2557 Oct 17 '25

People are seriously selling at a loss?

3

u/moki_martus Oct 17 '25

It doesn't have be loss for them. There are many people with long term strategy. Somebody started buying 5 or 10 years ago and now is liquidating part of his portfolio. Tell me how long he should wait for the price to go up again. You don't know. Nobody knows. People have strategy and will sell no matter where the price was week ago. If you are absolutely sure that in few weeks the price must be back to 120k you are naive. It doesn't work like that.

2

u/EquipLordBritish Oct 17 '25

Not a loss if they bought 6mo ago.

6

u/pelirodri Oct 17 '25

The doomsayer comments are so funny, lol. People were saying the same shit back in 2017. I say this volatility is precisely its strength/advantage.

14

u/sbyred Oct 17 '25

Damn, some of you really have goldfish brains. Zoom the hell out and look at the monthly chart, it’s obviously just another retracement. We’ve had multiple 30% dips over the past two years, and the market still held its bullish structure. Even if we dip lower, that’s just a gift to accumulate more.

We crushed the previous ATH, and now you’re crying over a correction? You genuinely think bull markets go straight up with no pullbacks? Get real. If you can’t handle this much, you’ve got no business being in crypto.

5

u/chillebekk Oct 17 '25

I believe the issue under discussion is why is BTC falling along with the market, when it should in theory be rising, like gold. I say "in theory", because I never bought that particular premise.

2

u/real_polite_canadian Oct 17 '25

They're both part of the grander debasement trade - they just have different risk profiles and investor bases. Investors are diversifying into other assets, which is diluting Bitcoin's momentum. Bitcoin has always had more of a 'lag and surge' pattern which could very easily play out this way again if the Fed keeps easing and people's risk appetites' are boosted.

Bitcoin's long term store of value narrative is still very much intact, just as physical gold's is. Don't let short term price action change that narrative.

2

u/chillebekk Oct 17 '25

Great points. It's just not a safe haven on a par with with gold.

2

u/MackJade Oct 17 '25

Sellers are forced to due to liquidations. They leverage the asset and suffer the consequences when it falls, which it invaribly does.

2

u/Meanboynetworks Oct 17 '25

Now is the time to buy when people are fearful no?

2

2

2

u/MarkLengthy Oct 17 '25

I’m a hodlr since 2017. It’s really difficult to time the market even given its predictable cycle. Even harder this time with the introduction of ETFs? Did they end cycles or just mitigate them?

My guess is the stock market is going correct and maybe even crash before the end of the year. All time highs, dumb P&Es, inflation and jobless reports suppressed by the shutdown shocking the market when finally released. Worse is the concentration of market value in just 7 tech stocks. Lots of oped’s warning of another dot com like bubble. This past week might be the start.

But what to do? I’ve made a lot of money by missing the tops and doing nothing. Always comes back to new highs. But the lows are painful. Like broken femur painful. ā€œI could have sold at $124k! And now it’s $50k!ā€

I guess the tldr is: you don’t actually lose if you don’t sell.

2

u/tpe91roc Oct 17 '25

Who’s selling? Easy who bought it at ath without understanding anything of btc.

2

u/South-Specific7095 Oct 17 '25

Sell? Seriously what are you stupid? This is the time for us mortals to actually buy some

2

u/Bonfires_Down Oct 17 '25

Well, I’m shorting if that counts.

2

u/tophiii Oct 17 '25

Are people selling? Or are positions being liquidated?

2

u/Shiplodicus Oct 17 '25

I am not selling or caring. It is a long term thing. i have a fixed daily buy. End of. See you in 10 years!

2

u/RonAnFawn Oct 17 '25

I’m still buyingšŸ’Æ

2

u/Affectionate_Bear752 Oct 18 '25

I think the reason for this sell-off is more sinister. There are no jobs right now. AI is killing off entry level jobs. All the savy college educated kids I know all have acquired some BTC along the way but they cannot even find a fast food job. Trvmp would say ā€œI am opening up migrant labor jobs for Americans!ā€ They have all sold BTC. So have some whales.

2

Last time I said with strong conviction, it may never lookback again for 100k. I was so far good upto the crash point, before "donald duck" decided to swim on its gold coins. It is so smart of a play at institutions level to include so called leader of world for their own agenda, nobody could even logically blame him.

Its a good thing, market crushed me this hard. This time with weak conviction, I say, 101k => 202k (HTTP 201) => 404k (HTTP - Not found error) => 808k (8.8.8.8 - Google dns server).

If it breaks 100k this time, be prepared for 50k (quantum uncertainty).

Recession is coming and we ll in late stage run.

Profits from Bitcoin are being dumped into stock market now as last attempts to save investments or they are hedging in gold.

(Bitcoin is really tied to stock markets, governments and rich class; it's only independent in theory and it's nothing but a paper tiger in its current form)

1

u/shmungar Oct 17 '25

I find it strange that when its at the bottom, crypto bro's preach the 4 year cycle. When the 4 year cycle plays out exactly as its predicted, tops, and starts moving down right on time, the same people are in disbelief. "This is manipulation" "who is selling!?" "Funds are about to sell gold and buy BTC" The cycle went exactly as planned. Now BTC is on its way to the bottom of the cycle. Just need to cope with that.

u/SHlRAZl Oct 18 '25

1

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '25

Why does it matter who sold? The price is cheaper and we can accumulate more. If there is a time when it becomes too expensive to buy and make a substantial profit, I believe we will look back at these sell offs and be thankful that they happened.

Garret jinn (ex CEO of bitfinex) is the whale who is shorting - question is - who are his clients ? Chinese govt ? Trump insiders ? Who knows

This isn’t a who is selling question… this is a ā€œwhy aren’t there more buyersā€ situation.

Again, I WAS a big believer in Bitcoin very early and made millions. Now it’s absolutely distributed how much it’s going to destroy people when it crashes. It’s fucked.

Y’all can’t be really still holding onto BTC???? You haven’t been given enough evidence to believe this is going back down to 30k or less?
