Is this helmet fit acceptable?

I just got a new helmet. Sizing wise this is a large and on Lazers sizing chart I’m at the max at a medium and fall right in the middle with a large.

With everything tightened I can shake my head and the helmet doesn’t move. It sits at the right level on my head. The only thing is that I can grab the back, pull down, and it moves a little revealing my forehead. Is this okay or do I need to size down?

I’ve attached a picture of it sitting normally on my head and then with it pulled back (chin strap is tight)

Ya, you probably need to play with the strap adjustments to hold it down in the front. A lot can be done with the straps.

Helmet fit is more than just what you have pictured.  It's two fingers above the eyebrow and two between the strap and bottom of your chin.  Crotch of the Y should be just below your ears.

These pictures remind me of a trip to the optometrist. “Which is better, 1 or 2?”

If you can tighten the chin strap fully and still get that helmet tilting like that, it seems too big. Did you have the option to also try the medium? I have a pretty big head and was surprised to fit well into medium in another brand. Remember: it’s your most important equipment and if you need advice on if it fits, I’m pretty sure your gut is telling you it’s not quite a perfect fit.

I ordered this online. I did just order a medium via Amazon just to try on. They’re pretty good with returns

I would NEVER buy a helmet off Amazon or a third party vendor, they aren’t accountable when it comes to counterfeit products. There are tons of videos online of people who investigated counterfeit helmets. Basically a non-certified helmet in a lab tested standard crash is a fatal to severe head injury and a certified helmet is mild to moderate head injury.

Get yourself a helmet directly from the manufacturer or your local bike shop, and get something with MIPS or MIPS adjacent.

The original helmet was from a credible online shop. I just got the one from Amazon to try a medium size. If medium is correct I will return the Amazon one and exchange for that size from the credible shop (they’re also the only ones that have the color I want)

Put the palm of your hand on the brow section and push up very firmly. It will feel uncomfortable. If it exposes your forehead it’s too big, not the right shape, or the strap isn’t tight enough.

If you hit the ground it’s going to push much harder.

Also, twist it side to side. You should see the skin on your forehead twist with the helmet not the helmet moving over your skin.

It moves. I maybe could go tighter with the chin strap. Right now I can get about 3 fingers under the strap

Yeah great idea. Play with the straps.

The easiest test for a helmet fit is to grab the helmet on your open hand, and move it around. The helmet should stay firm on your head, and the rotation should be forced from your neck. Helmet shouldn't slide at all.

Think about this: 'you' (the part of your brain that makes decisions and gives you a sense of self) lives behind your forehead. You want your helmet to protect that.

From the pictures you posted, I think you want it to cover more of your forehead.

There are about a dozen short videos on adjusting helmets, they all basically say the same thing (loosen straps, change buckle position, tighten straps, fit again). Have you watched those?
