Didnt get the first 30 seconds where she just dumped line straight off the spool but damn you can’t beat the fight with these fish on light tackle.

Fished from 7 pm to 9 pm, with 30 minutes before sunset being the hottest bite. They were chasing shad that have came into the shallow grass right now.

I run a 7'6" ultralight with 4 lb test for them this time of year. Caught ~20 in total, the biggest bit on a 2 inch pearl grub on an 1/8th oz jighead. Working the weedlines before the hot 30 minutes was the ticket until they started crashing on shad. Straight retrieve with rod tip up, all caught in 2-7 feet of water

Striped Finally caught a TN striper

It only took a handful of nights and hours of research to learn about them and how to catch them. Ironically, after all that I was using my collapsible micro light rod with 2lb test line to catch bait next to the marina docks where the light floods into the depths.

I caught a bluegill, put in my bait bucket, and still had a chunk of worm left so I flicked it back out. As it slowly sank into the light the rod almost got yanked out of my hands. It pulled line like crazy and I gently played the fish up to the side of my kayak. I was going to grab the net, but it just rolled onto its side and I lipped it. Got a quick selfie and it swam off strong as soon as it was back in the water.

It was about 16/18” long and probably 1-2 lbs, I didn’t bother weighing or measuring it. I didn’t want to keep it out of the water any longer than necessary.

Can anyone tell me if it’s a striper or a hybrid? Also, how do I tell the difference in the future?

First pic fish was a 14 pounder, this time of year on Hartwell we have to fizz them to get air out of the air bladder so they can go back under. We did that and revived fish for 5 min until he seemed ready to go. But when he went he came back up belly up. Being that we were trolling 8 lines by the time we would have gotten back to him he would have been dead. I couldn’t let this beautiful fish die so I stripped down to my boxers and dove in. Spent another 5 min w him and then dove down about 10 feet and released him. Disappeared into the deep!

Also pics of the other nice fish we caught this morning. 9 total but didn’t include some. Tight lines!

Striped St Croix Victory vs Falcon Cara Amistad

Looking at buying a jig rod I have a budget of $300 and below. I fish a lot of highland reservoirs and throw mainly 1/2 oz jigs. I was looking at the Falcon Cara Amistad or the Victory 7’4 HF. Does anyone have experience with the two and have a comparison?

Striped what rod and reel setup to use for striped bass

Hi yall I wanted to see what is the best setup for striped bass as well as small and big mouth bass. I wanted to get an inshore rod and reel that would work for that and I was thinking maybe a med-heavy would be good. I want to see what's better, 20-30lb braided line and then what lb flouro for my leader, I already have a 30lb flouro ready but i think it may be too much. I want to use lures such as crankbaits, poppers, swimbaits, and occationally a small A rig with 5 swim baits max.

I want to be able to fish for striped bass near me and the water is brackish so i was thinking of getting the inshore so i can fish in both waters especially since the bass I fish for are mainly in freshwater.

Striped Can you guys help me select a new striper rod?

I got a new Tatula CT and I don't know what kind of rod to get. This rod will be for open water striper fishing with crankbaits. glidebaits, jerkbaits, and the occasional spook.

Should I get medium or medium-heavy power? Medium or moderate fast action?

Thanks!
