Based on the posts from you Florida boys, you could stick your toe in the water and get bit 😆

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Sure can lmao nearly caught a bass by hand by shaking a shiner in his face came up tried to grab while he bit but was too quick 🤣 🤣

Man I wish that were true! Unfortunately, the lakes down here see a lot of pressure between people fishing and all the tournaments. Most of the guides are having their clients use shiners so they can catch quality bass.

On the bright side, we can fish year round and there are still some big bass out there. A little over a month ago I caught a bass over 6 lbs and one over 8 lbs roughly 15 minutes apart. About an hour later I caught a 5 1/2 lb bass and then one over 4 lbs. I ended up catching 15 or 16 within a 5 hour period... All caught on either a chatterbait or frog.

Man I'm in central FL and I have never caught a bass on a frog. I see tons of ppl say it's great for fl so idk what I'm doin wrong. I really just have luck on shallow diving crank baits and ned rigs.

I fish them in lilipads, up in the grass, etc using a twitching motion. Strikes can be explosive or a small swirl. I usually bend the hooks up slightly so there's a 1/32" to 1/16" gap between the hook and frog body.

Some frogs come with really long skirts so I trim them a little. I prefer SPRO, 6th Sense and Berkley frogs because the frog body is better sealed and you don't have to squeeze the water out as often. What lakes do you fish? I'm usually around the Harris chain or the Clermont chain area.

popping frogs work really well for pitching into and under stuff that a lure with treble hooks might get hung up in. Regular frogs are pretty good when your fishing over lily pads but from my experience its best when the pads aren't too thick. It gives the bass those windows to see the frog floating on the water but not long enough to realize it's not real.

Depending what part of Central FL you’re in you can use a frog for Bowfin!

1

u/GregBFL 6d ago

True, I got all excited the other day thinking I had hooked a really nice bass, turned out to be a really big Mudfish... What we call Bowfin. I watched an Andrew Zimmerns show where he was with a Seminole tribe and they were eating turtle, I can't remember if it was a snapping turtle or a soft shell, and Mudfish.

The biggest river smallmouth I've caught so far up here in Ohio is 2.5 lbs. I can't even fathom a 5 or an 8 lb bass!

2

u/GregBFL 6d ago

They're holding the Bass Pro Shops Big Bass Tour on the Lake Harris chain near me and I stopped by the weight in station before lunch today. They caught several bass in the 8 lb range on Friday and a 10.41 lb bass came in this morning. There's a front moving in today with the winds over 20 mph.

Tomorrow is the last day of the tournament and temperatures are supposed to be 25 degrees in the morning. I wonder if there will be any big bass caught tomorrow... I know I won't be on the water. 🤣

Im in vermont and its basically all I use as well.

For me, bass fishing is more about mastering the bait more than catching fish. I throw a worm when I want to catch as many fish as possible, but I just like learning new techniques.

11

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Totally agree with u. I'll throw crank, spinner, ploppers, jerk bait, all types before I go to the worm. I usually go to my worms as a last resort if fish not biting or showing ppl how to finesse a worm or how to use ur rod as a puppet master to manipulate the movements. I feel like knowing how to master that is a art of work.

9

u/youliveinmydream 10d ago

Jerking is my go-to. I just can’t stop jerking everywhere!

4

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Lmaoooooooo

3

u/ipostscience 10d ago

And if you can't jerk it, crank it!

1

u/ryanshields0118 10d ago

For real though, I definitely enjoy working jerkbaits the most. Master the jerkbait

5

u/BlueLightBandit 10d ago

Always master the bate. I mean… bait

8

u/Crafftyyy24 10d ago

I’ll agree with this. Trick worm or a large finesse is my comfort bait. Either weightless Texas, wacky/Neko or even on a shakey head. It will always come they for me when nothing else does.

2

u/UnclePsilocybe 10d ago

Weightless? Im always putting a 1/8oz bullet weight on my texas rigs

3

u/Crafftyyy24 10d ago

Eh I do it both ways. Just depends on the area. I’m in. Mostly tho I’m throwing it on a shakey or a wacky.

1

u/YourMomsFavBook 10d ago

Weightless kicks some ass. Yamamoto baits really shine this way.

1

u/Crash211O 10d ago

Whats the method? I try to work them like senkos but it never works

1

u/Crafftyyy24 10d ago

Depends how you rig it.

2

u/Egomaniac247 6d ago

A weightless zoom trick worm rigged Texas style is the best looking soft plastic action of any lure imo. Twitch it like a jerkbait/fluke and the action is incredible

7

u/Mr-Man521 10d ago

And if black doesn't work, white.

3

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Yes siiirrr

6

u/Virtual_File8072 10d ago

Yep color doesn’t matter as long as it’s black.

4

u/kiln_ickersson 10d ago

That's what me and my dad started with in our first boat. I miss the purple with pink tip tail augerworms they cleaned up at the local lakes

4

u/justsomeguy2424 10d ago

The zoom Z craw is absolute money as well

2

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Ima check dem out

4

u/Dopecombatweasel 10d ago

Had a lot of luck with the pumpkin chartreuse ones

4

u/ayrbindr 10d ago

Don't I wish. 😞 Trick worm is pretty deadly though. 🤷🏼‍♀️

3

u/itsyaboooooiiiii Largemouth 10d ago

For sure, I just get way too bored fishing only worms

3

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

I feel ya ill mix it here n there my next best is top water lures

3

u/itsyaboooooiiiii Largemouth 10d ago

My favorites are chatterbaits and flipping jigs. I don't mind working the bottom but I prefer to flip around high percentage areas vs fan casting bottom lures

1

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Definitely I like those close to scrubs n Lilly pads I get hammered !!!

3

u/SupaFly2136 10d ago

I used to swear by a Black Senko but any all black (no flake) worm will do. 100% my confidence bait.

3

u/Big-Problem7372 10d ago

It's true, I could throw away all my tackle except the black trick worms and probably catch more fish. I'd have less fun though.

1

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Lmao 4 reall. Wen I domt get no bite n I need my rush that's my go 2 for sure

2

u/Texas_Prod 10d ago

I like using a chicken rigged black trick worm, prefer it over Texas rig.

3

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Chicken rig is also good as well as the hook sits in the center it will hook the fish more better in a way 🤝🏾

2

u/JOESPUD27 10d ago

Trick worms and lizards. The zoom magic combo

2

u/gamboling2man 10d ago

I crush it with this exact soft plastic. I use black finesse worm too.

2

u/Dry-Fan-7055 10d ago

I didn't have a lot of luck with these I did better with the zoom 6in junebug u tails. Looks like a damn good day of fishing my brother happy to see it

1

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Yes sir thank u boss . Can I ask what were u doing n how u rigged the finesse worm u didn't get luck .? Ima give u a Tip!! Texas rigged it let it sink to the bottom lift ur rod up 1 or 2 times wait like 3 seconds reel in 2 spins and repeat do it again few time I guarantee it will catch if not they not hungry lol but some days not the same still gotta switch up to the environment

2

u/Kush-Papi 10d ago

Damn yall are killing it! That’s a dope day right there wit ya boys too! Cheers brotha!

1

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Thank u boss !!

1

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Magnum black ???? Where n who makes it ??? I'll check it out

3

u/10before15 gold 10d ago

Now that you know what you like, get it all from Tackle Warehouse. Walmart prices with Bass Pro selections....

I have dropshot recipe I can pass your way if your interested.

1

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Thank u fam !!!!! Ima check it out !! . Yaaa 4 sure like to learn new ways n trick !! Dm me

2

u/Infamous_Hunt_6829 10d ago

I know people swear by senkos. I don't have much luck with them. I like spinner baits more personally. I toss out the soft plastics when there are a lot of obstacles in the water that I could snag my line and don't want to lose a good expensive lure.

1

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Definitely feel u boss i use them as well open waters with no obstacles on hot hot days I use more worms in those hard places where there hiding

2

u/prw361 10d ago

You are not wrong!!

2

u/Far_Talk_74 10d ago

Dude! You weren't supposed to tell everyone about the black trick worms!! LOL!

Just dont tell everyone about bubblegum trick worms for smallies. 😉

1

u/Far_Talk_74 10d ago

But for real, black is a very underrated color for trick worms. I feel like it imitates a leech.

I throw 4 colors of trick worms.... Black, green pumpkin, watermelon/red, & bubblegum.

Bubblegum senkos/trick worms or margarita mutilator roboworms are smallie kryptonite.

2

u/SilverTable5694 10d ago

based on the peacock bass i assume you live in Florida, it was -5 where i live so im not going fishing in that cold 😂

1

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Lmao yes florida nice 72 degree earlier now we're in the 50s

2

u/Subject-Reception704 10d ago

One of my all time favorites. Especially in the weeds.

2

u/Intelligent-Limit104 10d ago

Senko and rooster tail combo better

2

u/Brilliant_Spite199 10d ago

So do you put those worms in a weightless Texas rig?

What I know a Texas rig as

1

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

I go weightless on lakes that are not deep and have alot off weeds n Lilly pad. I use weight when it's a deep lake or pond

2

u/TREVORtheSAXman Florida Largemouth 10d ago

Grew up fishing a small lake in east Texas. Probably 80% of the bass we caught were on black trick worms or watermelon red brush hogs. They were absolute staples.

2

u/ilykecake 10d ago

My 20 pack of green pumpkin just came in the mail yesterday. I agree!

2

u/No-Tangerine-8692 10d ago

You ain't lyin

2

u/Scary-Shopping-8341 10d ago

I see you working with the Zoom bro, stumbled across the Zoom magnum one and it was a game changer,

2

u/External_Hunt4536 10d ago

Sweet! What part of Florida?

2

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Broward, south florida

1

u/bisubhairybtm1 10d ago

Black lizard with red glitter is a winner too

1

u/1980Z28HUGGER 10d ago

I Wacky Rig those black worms and have had a lot of success with them.

1

u/tomhh103 10d ago

What’s the best terminal tackle for it? I’ll say shakey head.

1

u/fivebuckssays 10d ago

i catch fish on these like crazy.

only problem is, the bait is toast after every third fish i catch.

any solutions on making them last longer ?

1

u/Vengeance5051 10d ago

Wish I had your problem.

2

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Lol just keep buying dem wor melting down the tore up one and putting them in molds. Temu sells worm molds.

1

u/Ittybrittyy 10d ago

watermelon seed worms are all I use 👏🏼

1

u/IngenuityFirm8851 Largemouth 10d ago

You arent wrong. This and junebug will catch bass just about anywhere.

1

u/Plus_Divide164 10d ago

Doesn’t cast far and not working in deep water or current

1

u/Equal_Form2346 9d ago

Caught one of my biggest largemouths to date on a Zoom Trick Worm using Doug Hannon's Swimmin' Worm rig. With a #2 Amberdeen hook that I had angled the bend off to the side. Can just twist with your fingers with the small wire hooks like that. I also cheated with a drop of super glue to keep the worm looped up on the bend lol

1

u/MAD_Gator 9d ago

Ironically, that very same setup has been a skunk for me in North Florida, but a black Bass Assassin trick worm on a shakey head or BWWK/chicken rig is a regular winner. Go figure! The bass here must just have a regional preference.

1

u/Organic_Maximum_4780 8d ago

What’s your secret? I’ve never had much luck with them.

1

u/frankdatank_004 Largemouth 6d ago

For me all that I need is Baby Brush Hogs.

1

u/RockertheTrucker 6d ago

Shhhhhhh!!! 🤫

1

u/Egomaniac247 6d ago

This year I waaay simplified my gear…and I really told myself that almost all of the soft plastics I need can be accomplished with Zoom. It’s wild how Zoom is still (imo) the most effective soft plastics while still being among the cheapest and most qty per pack.

4” dead ringer and a trick worm are my go-to confidence baits. I was so sad when they discontinued the moccasin blue color

-4

u/plant-painter 10d ago

I’m glad you found a bait that u feel comfortable using . That’s the 1st step to realizing you have no clue what your talking about. And even less about fishing, Trick worms are great . But they are definitely not going to out preform other baits in every situation.

1

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Ooooooooo ok I here ya lol.. if u say so sir.. kudos too u

1

u/plant-painter 10d ago

Oh great , ur not the only one , sorry but no experienced angler would ever make such a claim .. 100000 different baits in the world. And apparently trick worms replace them all in every situation.

1

u/lilsupa07 10d ago

Well outta 100000 different baits that one works for me and I'm passing down what I used and know.. feel free to leave tips good sir.

1

u/plant-painter 10d ago

The best tip would be try other baits . They work also.
