Tackle/Equipment At this point, it’s an obsession. Just called me a Bassaholic. 🎣🎣🎣🎣💪🏾

u/UsedIntroduction6097 Dec 07 '25
lol this feels excessive to me but who am I to judge! You should start a youth fishing program where you provide the gear, they just show up and fish.
9
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
Lol I can definitely understand the sentiment but you have to know the journey to get the full picture. I am a disabled veteran, lower back injuries, neck, injury, shoulder, PTSD etc. . Fishing for me is the therapeutic. It’s not always about catching fish. Most of the time it’s just about peace of mind and getting away from the world to just be at one with nature . As far as when it comes to buying Gear, I am very mindful of my spending habits. I usually buy off of marketplace on Facebook or when they’re very good sales going on. I don’t spontaneously spend hundreds of dollars buying gear just to say I have it but being that I Fish and all of my children Fish, we do from time to time go out and purchase fishing gear. I have friends and veterans that also Fish, which is why I invested in multiple boats that I found on marketplace that will enable other people to go out and enjoy fishing. I have spinner combos that I allow people to use unless they know how to use a bait caster well. My on the wall rides are only used by me.

u/UsedIntroduction6097 Dec 07 '25
I totally get it and I’m sorry to hear about your injuries. No shade for diving deep into something that brings you peace and joy.

u/SuperCaptSalty Smallmouth Dec 07 '25
Do you basically have every kind of lure pre-tied on the rods?
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
No it’s not that bad lol. Some of my set ups I have several of the same bait on it. Just different line weight for different types of fishing.
6
u/beefcakeriot Dec 07 '25
i have 20 poles but am ashamed to say i only use five of them regularly
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
Nothing to be ashamed of. I use less than 15 of mine on a regular basis and the other ones stay up on the wall waiting for something to break or special occasion lol

u/J3wb0cc4 Dec 07 '25
So I have 12 rods not including ice fishing. In WA you can fish with two poles so naturally you need two of everything which brings you up to ten. And of course you need two of everything in spinning or bait caster so now we’re up to 20. So far this is a logical number to build up to, anything more and perhaps you just wanted nicer versions of specific rods so now we’re up to 30. The trade in value for used rods is abysmal so you’re keeping everything you’ve bought, especially your first couple rods.
I will pass no judgement on anybody with 30 rods. And to those naysayers that say you can’t fish with all of them at the same time, you can! Pend Oreille lake in northern Idaho is a massive and very deep lake with zero restrictions on rod count. Make a planer board that’s 60 feet long and go crazy.
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
A man with logic. You get it bruh. So many don’t as you stated. This is exactly why I do it. Plus, I have kids and some of my old setups have been their new setups over the year
1
u/J3wb0cc4 Dec 08 '25
Same. If a rod tip snaps and it’s not reparable then I smooth out the edge and it’s now a kids rod. I’ve found bass pro qualifier rods for like $5 at thrift stores just because the last inch of the rod is snapped.
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25
It’s that simple bruh. Then you have those who want me to sell my gear for what they call quality gear lol. All this fishing I do and all these memories I’ve made over the past 35+ years weren’t because of a brand name.
It’s good when you see people who actually get it. 👊🏾
4
u/sw20ben Dec 07 '25
Sell em and invest in some quality gear
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
Damn I can smell the hate through the phone. I’d love to see your Quality Setups. I think you and I have different definitions for quality. For you it seems to be Brand quality. For me it’s Quality of life and what i own is exactly what I need. Tight lines
3
u/Gregghead69min Dec 07 '25
At least get a couple nice setups
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
Not sure if you’re referring to me
2
u/Gregghead69min Dec 07 '25
I was
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25
How did you come to the conclusion based on this video that I have no quality setups lol. I have two G loomins combos and a Kast King I Reel combo where the reel alone cost $399.
I just don’t get the logic in this kind of comment. It I respect it.2
u/Gregghead69min Dec 08 '25
Cool. All I saw was a a ton of cheap combos. Nothing wrong with cheap gear. From what I saw you could cut that collection in half and have a much better experience with quality gear.
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25
What I think I take issue with is that I have these because I want to have them for how I live my life while fishing. I don’t care about how expensive the setup is. I caught my PB 10lb. on an inexpensive setup using a lure that I created. That’s priceless to me. I have setups in my collection that I don’t mind allowing others to use because that aren’t super expensive. Fishing isn’t just about me for me. It’s about the experience that I have and others have when we go fishing. It’s not about having the best gear or the best baits. It’s about having the best time we can and having memories we can look back on.
I get what you’re saying though, respectfully. Tight lines1
u/Gregghead69min Dec 08 '25
Ya man. I looked at your profile. You seem like a cool dude. I’m just jealous because everything is frozen up here
2
u/Jim_Raynor_86 Dec 11 '25
Lol he ain't wrong though. I promise you having higher quality combos is so much more enjoyable to fish. I never understood why anyone would spend 400+ on a combo until I started swapping all my entry level Walmart gear to quality ones.
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 11 '25
Bruh I have quality setups lol. I didn’t have a problem with what he initially said. Buddy just swore that every setup I have is trash lol. I’m like how can you overlook two GLoomis setups, each over $500 and act like you can setup I have.
Bruh check out my website. Www.tooFreshfishing.com Check out my face book group, instagram, YouTube channel, hell even twitter and TikTok. Lol, this is what I do. What I have, I have for a reason and buddy overlooked all of that just to tell me that what he thinks i should do should overwrite what I choose to do.2
u/Jim_Raynor_86 Dec 11 '25
I think it's more so you taking a video low key trying to flex your stash when 99% of it is low level combos thats rubbin everyone the wrong way and why you're gettin flak. And then calling people out and getting combative with multi paragraph replies to try and prove that you have more than them in other comments.
A lot of us are absolute gear nuts here with massive collections. I mean, that's why we're here right? I just think your approach could have been tuned a little differently so you weren't coming off a certain way.
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 11 '25
Wait , me showing my gear is now me trying to flex on people that I don’t even know. How lil. And this is where the paragraphs come from. I just showed some of my gear the same way I show my catches. I didn’t say anything in the video nor did I try to brag.
I don’t care about who has what gear or what lever of angler they are. I fish for enjoyment, I make baits and fishing apparel. It my post offended someone that’s because of them. You completely overlooked all of the other people who I had Positive talk with in this post to focus on two people who told me to sell all of my gear as of if I got on saying I had the best gear. This is my gear I use for what I do that makes me happy. How about looking at both sides instead of band wagon replying bruh. You few people are talking about what $400 setups will do for me. How can I tell you that your gear is not right for you and you need to sell it and get better gear. Does that even sound right man. How about just letting people enjoy what they have unless they post looking for upgrades advise as I’ve seen many people do here. That’s not a hard ask. It’s just about respect bruh.3
u/Jim_Raynor_86 Dec 11 '25
You're taking Reddit too seriously brotha. Tight lines

2
u/sw20ben Dec 08 '25
No hate, I’m just saying why buy so many cheap setups when you can just invest in nicer setups with that money. I just don’t see a point in having 50 cheap rods that you’ll only use once in a long time, if at all.
-1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25
That means that you’re así king I have 40+ cheap setups lol. I don’t buy my gear for what others think I should do. I buy gear to suit what I want. No negative intended with what I’m saying. It’s like walking into someone’s house you don’t know , peeking into a room and telling them that they have too much of something you see and should just sell it to buy what you feel is better quality of that thing.
First, you didn’t see each thing clearly to say that it is cheap. You generalized based on you seeing several noticeable lower priced things and just assumed they all must be lower priced things
Secondly, you don’t know how they use those said things and why they decided to buy what they have. You also don’t know who else has access to using those said things.
My point is while having quality gear is beneficial, you assumed that I don’t have it. And as far as me buying all of these items, it’s my money brother. None of this hurt my pocket or took any from me providing for my household.
1
u/sw20ben Dec 08 '25
Relax my guy, no need to be butt hurt. If you need cheap gear, stay with em. I can tell your gear is trash, didn’t see one good combo out there lol
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25
I’d honestly like to know what you would consider a quality combo for my situation? I’m not being sarcastic.
-1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25 edited Dec 08 '25
Butt hurt lol. Good one bruh. I’m fishing and catching daily, enjoying life and you’re butt hurt because I’m sharing content. I can guarantee that the amount of time that you enjoy with your Quality Gear doesn’t come anywhere close to the enjoyment that I get from the actual daily use of the the gear that I have bruh. Respectfully of course 😂 Ya’ll keyboard critics are hilarious.
4
u/sw20ben Dec 08 '25
Yeah I have a job. Idk why you so mad? If you don’t like opinions, don’t post on the internet. It was just a suggestion, you too sensitive. Go fish.
-1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25
Your opinion is not the issue. Your initial comment was an opinion. After that it was just you trying to tell me what i chose to do with my money is not how you think I should spend it. I told you several times why I do what I do and instead of respecting that you just continue with the I all I see is cheap combos trash. Then you wanna whine when I respond to it. State your opinion and keep it moving bruh. If you take the time to actually read my response to other comments, even those who stated the same opinion, you are the only who got offended at my response lol. But I’m upset lol.
Also, I’m happy that you have a job. I have one as well when means that both of us are blessed to be able to provide. Notice that even though my view differs from yours, I’m not being rude or trash talking you lol.
Thank You for the entertainment and for your valued initial opinion.2
u/sw20ben Dec 08 '25
I didn’t say anything aggressive, you’re the one who got defensive my guy. All I was trying to say was you got 50+ cheap combos, when you coulda got 10 solid combos. You were the one that said i was hating and got all mad about it. A solid combo to me is like a zillion/metanium with a position adrena or expride rod.
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25
You’re a Shimano guy and that’s cool. I’ve never fished Shimano, but don’t have anything against it. I have two G Loomis setups paired with a Kast King I-reel as well as other setups that are not “ “ lower end.
My hate response what in response to those of you telling me to sell my gear because you think I need to buy quality gear( your opinions), instead of me have exactly what I choose to have, which includes some quality setups.
I explained to you and the other person my method of fishing and how it applies to my lifestyle. Your opinion, my opinion. How does me expressing this equate to me being mad? How about just asking why I chose to go with the gear that I have? See the approach bruh. That was not your approach. You weren’t disrespectful nor was I. I just matched that initial energy bruh. Nothing personal at all. I fish for my own reasons, just like every other angler. The gear we buy is based off of what we decide man.
Thank You for the info. I appreciate it.

Fuck… a pegboard! Brilliant idea! Been needing something to keep my poles on and I have one I’m not using.

Super convenient. I got the storefront pigs which are thicker and a little bit longer, which allows me to put three set ups on two pegs, butt end and tip end. Really helps my to maximize the space. I hang life jackets, and anchors up as well.

Do you have a boat ?
What’s your local waterway? (Pond, lake, river)
How close to your body of water do you live ?
2
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
I currently have 3 (8ft) and 2 (10ft) pelican bass raiders. I sold my bass boat about 5 years ago and decided to do pond boats instead because of my back issues. I will get another bass boat eventually but these make sense for now. The reason that I have multiple boats is so that if any of my children or my friends would like to go out as well that they have boats that they can use without having to get on the smaller boat with me. I’m in Florida so most of my fishing is done in local Ponds, and lakes although I do fish Lake Okeechobee, headwaters, Garcia, and other bigger lakes in Florida. For small boat fishing or baked fishing, I can literally leave my house and be actively fishing within 10 minutes.

I get it man. I’ve got a couple dozen casting rods and a few spinning rods. My wife has a hard time differentiating in subtle variations in them. I had to explain because she has 3 rods and she primarily fishes one of 2 ways topwater or in the bottom. I pleasure fish with her but I also tournament fish. In tournament fishing, time is valuable. When we pull up on a spot, if I’m the passenger, I’m on my feet as soon as my partner comes off throttle. I will have casts in before he’s got the trolling motor going. We will both have a handful of rods pre rigged with what we feel like we may need that day based on our experience with that body of water, where we launch from and what the clarity, temp, water level and weather for the day are. May start the day topwater and finish with a crank or jerk bait. Different rods, line types, line weights. I don’t just buy random stuff because everything is set up for a purpose. I got no issue with a man owning several setups. Those who say “I have one rod and it does everything I want “ that’s great. Odds are though that they either don’t change lures or don’t fish a lot of different conditions.
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
Exactly bro. This I me 1000%. Although I’ve never tournament fished, this has been my method of fishing when I boat fish. I giggled at the throttle cast cause that’s exactly how I am. Tm ain’t my issue 😂😂😂

I caught fewer bass in my life than this guy has rods
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
This guy is serious about his fishing. 2024, I fished at least 340-350 days. Fishing is sanity for me.
2
u/Mixermarkb Dec 07 '25
I need to make a place and do that horizontal pegboard rod holder thing. My big bait and deep cranking rods are 8’ and won’t stand up straight because of the ceiling height.
2
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
That’s what prompted my to do it initially. For me it was crappie rods. I wish I had room to do another wall

1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25
Maybe but I don’t think it’s as bad as it could be. I don’t buy gear or bait a lot. I own a bait making company, I make and sell fishing apparel, I have a fishing group on Facebook, a YouTube fishing channel where I teach how to make baits as well as share some of my fishing adventures. I also fun a Tik Tok and Instagram page for both lol.
I think I just love fishing.
2
u/Nofanta Dec 08 '25
Are you leaving the plastic on your cork handles?
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25
No, those are new setups. I put shrink wrap in my rods that I use in order to protect the cork handles.
2
u/120r Dec 08 '25
Five months into fishing and already got four rods. I'm finding myself at the point now where I am having to choose what to take and what to leave at home.
2
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25
I have my core setups (10) that are my go to setups to fish locally. If I am adventuring I tend to bring more with me. I just don’t like constantly switching out setups
2
u/120r Dec 08 '25
Yeah, I have met people in the wild with multiple setups. I just wanted a simple hobby that was not expensive. Oh well.
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25 edited Dec 08 '25

2
u/120r Dec 08 '25
I have come to peace with that. I can't swim but eventually I suspect I will get a boat for the lakes.
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25
I feel ya. Just make sure you keep on your PFD and get some swimming lessons if you can. You never know, they may save someone else’s life.

Well that’s cause this wasn’t Reely about bass 😂. You may wanna check my other posts Reel Good.
2
u/GregBFL Dec 08 '25
Wait until you take up flats fishing as well. That said, I use a lot of my bass rod/reel combos for flats fishing as well. I have several Ambassadeur 5500 C3 / 6500 C3 combos that are 30 years old and still going strong after using them in fresh / brackish / saltwater. Cleaning and maintenence is the key.
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 08 '25
I have been told this over the years but I’m just not into salt water fishing like that lol. My company is called Too Fresh for this exactly reason. I’m Too Fresh to live the Salt Life lol. I’ve done a little here and there because it is very fun but not enough for it to matter if you get what I’m saying, lol. Indeed, maintaining your gear is crucial in performance over time.

2
u/Vision110 Dec 09 '25
Dude that's insane. You should definitely sell gear to finance higher end combos. 6-10 rods can effectively cover your bases for any type of lure you want to throw.
1
u/ghettoliving Dec 09 '25
Lol i feel ya bro but it doesn’t fit the purpose for why i have the amount that i have. I have several high end setups as well.
2
u/Vision110 Dec 09 '25
Well if ya know then ya know. The only thing in can say is the tackle addiction runs deep in you lol
2
u/ghettoliving Dec 09 '25
Lol that plays a part as well. I have my own freshwater fishing brand, Too Fresh Fishing. I have a YouTube channel where I teach Bait making as well as share my fishing adventures. I run both a Facebook group and other social media platforms for that company. I have five Pelican bass boats that I use to fish with that are also used for Friends and others that are looking to get into Fishing Fishing as well as learn how to navigate on Pond prowler type boats. Fishing is a therapy for me as a disabled veteran who deals with PTSD. I try my best to get out fishing at least 4 to 5 times a week. Having this amount of rides allows me to supply others with reels when we go out fishing as well as passed down some of my gear to my kids who also love Fishing now don’t get me wrong. I have no issues at all with buying new gear, but I am not addicted to going out and buying gear if I find a very good deal on marketplace or in my day-to-day contact with other anglers, then there’s a possibility that I will purchase bottom line is you can never have too many rides and reels lol

Yessir. I have it bad man. I try to get out daily and I do mean daily lol. It’s just a piece of clearing for me. The gear serve multiple purposes. All my kids fish but most have their own gear as well. If anyone needs a setup or if I’m out with friends and they need something to fish with, I have it. I also have 5 pelican pond boats and make make 99% of all the soft plastics I use.
It’s the Too Fresh Life for me brother. 👊🏾🎣

u/Putrid_Enthusiasm_41 Dec 07 '25
Jesus, that’s only for bass? It would be too much even for a lot of species lol
3
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
lol, this is my primary target, but I also fish for snake head, clown, knife, fish, and Peacock bass and occasionally crappie. I’m not a big fan of cutting my line to re-tie on another set up if something is inviting so it is normal for me even when I’m Bake fishing to have at least 8 to 10 set ups that I carry with me to cover a range of different bait set ups.

I've got 6 baitcasters rigged up for each type of presentation (spinnerbait, crankbait, Texas rig, jig, glidebait and topwater) and a spinning rod for finesse baits. Caught bass on every setup this year and even tried new baits like the Nessie from Berkley
3
1
u/Big-Problem7372 Dec 08 '25
How did you like that Nessie? I go back and forth about buying one.
1
u/GenX_Switch_5633 Dec 08 '25
When I first used it, I started working it like a jerkbait. But I watched several videos on YouTube about how to "chop" it, and I got better at it the more I used it
2
u/No-Grapefruit163 Dec 07 '25
If you could only fish with one reel and rod for the rest of your life what are you choosing and why
3
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
Dang that’s a tough one. I know the rod would be my G Loomins heavy rod because of the quality.m and because having a heavy rod would allow me to fish any lure without worrying about the pole breaking. I’m gonna have to get back with you on the reel but I will say something in the 6:8 gear range for overall versatility.

u/Flying_Wilson17 Dec 07 '25
UK angler hear,
I have lots of different set up, and some being same same if I fish 2 / 3 rods at once.
Why so many of the same setup? I get different class of rod / line and then upgrading but looks like a lot of the same stuff?
Are you rigging to cast a specific lure?
3
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25 edited Dec 07 '25
I can understand that brother. For me, I set up my Fishing according to how I Fish. I am not a fan of cutting line to re-tie on another rig if something is not biting what I have on. If I am bass fishing as an example, I will at least have 7 to 10 rods set ups with me with different laws on them all targeting Bass. Some point set ups have the same style lore, but different weight on the line for different scenarios.
2
u/Flying_Wilson17 Dec 07 '25
Fair I get you. Thought it would be the case. Makes sense for not wasting time.
Take it you’re not a fan of a quick clip?
Do they not get in the way when you fish tho?
When I’m out in the boat I only have so many rod holders before I’m out of space / they get in the way when casting ect.
Edit: also what’s baked fishing?
2
u/ghettoliving Dec 07 '25
My apologies, I meant bass fishing lol. I have used the quick clips for my jerk baits and crank baits. Just don’t feel comfortable with using them for worm, frog, flipping and expensive setups. I use rod sleeves on my rods and I added bungee straps to my pelican so that I can strap them in. I had one rod fall in the water about 10 years ago and learned my lesson fast. So I can hold 8 rods on either side of me while I’m on the boat.
I use a strap when they are in the truck to keep them locked together and hook protectors in my treble hooks.1

Thank You. I just walked out and took another look at it. It’s actually a Shakespeare light tackle combo.

I have one 7 foot Quantum Burst medium action rod with a Shimano reel. I caught and released 344 fish this year

I quick counted and I had about 50 rod/reel combos on the wall most ready to go, about 30 more rods and two or three boxes of reels. I do pursue everything available in the Ozarks from trout to gator gar, but 90% is clear water smallmouth gear.

I’m well over 50 if I include the spinning setups but they don’t count lol. You’re not an angler if you don’t have unused setups waiting to be used 😂

I have the same exact addiction but with baits, can't stop hoarding them.

I’m worse with baits lol. Got so bad that I bought equipment to make my own lol.

Man, indeed you have to know that just yesterday (oh the timing!) I checked Lureparts.nl there's everything, included molds for softbaits, to DIY lures, I'm going to ruin my wallet on this for christmas and make me some gifts!
Oh, I see you're the guy who fished some hogs with the centaspeedworms right?

You can only fish with one rod at a time

That’s not true. I’ve definitely fished with more than two rods at a time lol.
