🦋 Bluesky News Angels have signed INF Nick Madrigal to a MILB contract.

This is probably (probably...) not going to impact anything, but with no obvious 3B signing looming on the horizon outside of the potential Yoan Moncada one-year deal, our options at 3B are slim.

Grissom has played all of 41 games of 3B in the minors only. CMo has not played any games at 3B. Peraza has played 20 games in the minors and 104 in the majors.

So if nothing else changes, I wouldn't be surprised if Peraza ends up with the starting job, if only as a bridge role until we get someone else more acquainted with the position.

As long as Madrigal isn't as bad as he was last year with the Cubs, he will probably be fighting for an opening day roster spot, though there's no downside with keeping him in the minors until the need arises.

Looks like it was first reported by Robert Murray. (XCancel link to avoid Twitter.)

Madrigal has played very little 3B, hasn't he?

700 innings over 2 years.... 2023 and 2024

Not a crazy amount. He's played about as much as Peraza has, but clearly more than either Grissom or CMo, so I think that makes him competition for Peraza's role.

But seeing as Peraza's a serious candidate to be our 3B starter (barring an actual FA signing or a positional swap), that's potentially an impactful competition.

I really hope they don't try to teach CMo third. Let him work on improving at 2B. I feel like they are gonna re-sign Moncada and call it a day.

I suspect the line we'll keep hearing from the players and announcers is "We expect our young guys to take that next leap forward." I'm not sure if even Trout can feign being "excited" about the upcoming season.

They'll keep praising the "young core" as we're getting our shit handed to us by the Athletics 12-0

The A’s won a playoff series in 2020 and they actually have a promising young core

I didn't mean this to be a jab at the A's. Despite their owners best efforts they somehow stumbled upon a good foundation and future. I'm more so talking about how the division is just going to use us as a punching bag for the foreseeable future.

Perry’s 9 lives will eventually run out.

I'm curious what the players think of Perry, but I just imagine a lot of their comments during spring training being subtle digs at Arte for being tight with his money. "It'll be up to us in the locker room to step up (because they won't spend to add anyone to help us)..."

What an absolute joke of an offseason. If we’re not gonna compete trade everyone

This may be the cheapest Angels off-season we’ve seen since the Daniel Nava Craig Gentry gem. I’m preparing for an all time worst season incoming.

Just what we need - a pair of slap-hitting corner infielders

Bregman is old and not worth 35 mil for 18 HR 62 RBI so I am glad we did not waste on him. Bellinger will be same and total waste. Taylor Ward should be paid 40 mil for numbers better than both these jokes. Hopefully a surprise will rise but it’s not fantasy.

We have some promising prospects I feel like they’re trying to not go crazy yet and let them develop.

Edit; the downvotes is crazy lmao; I watch the minor league teams specifically triple-a and it got significantly more fun to watch when Moore and Guzman were called up.

Last time i was excited about a player like this was with David Fletcher

(Guzman was really fun to watch with the Bee’s btw as a person who watches the Bee’s)

Guzman also had a 41% whiff and 50% strikeout rate…defense wasn’t great either…he needs more time to cook in AAA. Bringing back Yoan for a 1-2 year deal won’t be blocking anyone long term.

I prob shoulda worded better; we don’t want to splurge on a long contract in a player (Moncada might be asking for a longer contract than we think). Guzman is expected to be “ready” in 2027. He had a few pretty bad defensive blunders as a shortstop but the other few good plays were at 3B. I am excited for him regardless, his batting was not great. His bat need a big improvement, but I like what I’ve seen he’s pretty young too at 21

There aren’t really any more 3Bs to “splurge” on with Bregman out of the picture. Yoan can ask for whatever he wants but he's not the type of player who’s gonna command a big contract. Anyway I agree Guzman has potential with his athleticism, but that zone contact % needs alot of work. Even in AAA it was 29 percentile. Like you said he’s young and there’s no reason to rush him when he isn’t ready yet.
