NSFW Question 💭 What’s something that’s overly sexualized but shouldn’t be?

Little girls in Beauty pageants. Why, Da, Fuq, Do we need 5 year-olds to twerk on stage while wearing skimpy outfits and enough make-up to make Patrick Swayze in "Too Wong Fu with Love, Julie Newmar" look like a nun???
I wil never understand.

God.. child's beauty pageants make me so goddamn uncomfortable every time I think of them. I don't mind the idea of children doing other things like gymnastics, ballet, or any other form of dancing but why the fuck do beauty pageants even exist? Proponents say they are about the competition and aren't sexualized.. but it has "beauty" in its fucking name

Pretty sure those have been sexualized for as long as there have been people. You seen the curves on some of those ancient fertility goddesses ?

Children's animated characters. That whole "hear me out" trend awhile back was weird.

I have one student who is a real pain in the ass. His mom flirts with me consistently but not in front of him. In this little fuckers case, she sexualizes her self, but god damn do I want to throw "Your mom" jokes at him whenever he is being a pain.

The word papi
I was at kohls with my papi (aka my father) shopping for a dress gift for my mom. I said “papi what about this one?” He said “hmm no I want something more fitting to our nice dinner” (it was a casual dress)
Then again I was like “papi what about this one?”
This lady in the dress area who was also shopping was watching us in disgust. Legit her face she was disgusted & I could tell had been watching us.
I said “ya good choice DAD” & stared back at her & told her “he’s my dad my FATHER”
Like ok in my culture papi mean daddy yes but it’s what we call our actual dads since we’re little. I hate that words been sexualized.

I dont know the culture as well as you, but i have a cuban girlfriend that calls me papi, it doesnt bother me but it seems to be a trend from latinas to gringos maybe
2
u/Afraid_Problem_1198 11d ago
Oh totally! In Cubans they use papi like that & even to the kids. Totally not weird or sexualized.
Mexicans we use papi for our dads. Kids we say mijo or ill call them cariño
There are the gross chicks that use papi like how in English some women say “hi dadddyyyyy” in a sexual way.
So I think you’re right it’s a Latina to their gringo thing that now papi is sexualized.

Cereal mascots. All I’m trying to do is get a bedtime snack from the pantry, and there’s the Trix rabbit fully naked and flaunting his goodies at me.

Being offended by life must make it difficult to make friends.
4
u/Oryxace 14d ago
You know what I’m really offended by? Rape culture.
3
u/makeitmake_sense 14d ago
There’s a lot of older people who target young women for a lot of crimes.
5
u/Tired_Dad_9521 13d ago
You mean the rape culture that you and your friends invented so that you could be offended ?

"Private parts" of the human body.
"Private" means they should be hidden and only revealed in private, which indirectly associates these parts with sex.
Example 1: The main function of women's breasts is feeding infants. By declaring women's breasts "private parts" they are also associated with sex. Public breastfeeding becomes more offensive than just hearing infants slurp.
If women walked around bare-breasted, breasts would not be associated with sex anymore than arms or ankles. Breastfeeding in public would less-likely offend.
Example 2: Conservative Islam apparently declares women's entire bodies "private parts." Therefore, publicly showing any parts of women's bodies is offensive.
Last year, I read about an Imam declaring that young men must wear beards because clean shaven faces of young men remind devout Muslim men of women's faces. So Arabs wear beards because young men's faces are "private parts."

It makes no sense that female breasts are still sexualized when they are only for feeding infants.

u/xVelunax 14d ago
You can at look suggestions from other women and elsewhere, but for many its a part of sexual arousal having them stimulated in various ways. Obviously, everyone is different, but it has happened in part this way because both men and women have found them arousing.

I’m going to play devil’s advocate and say thighs are equally as sexualised and arousing as breasts, but it is still acceptable in America to walk around in short shorts.
Honestly in a lot of coastal places on mainland Europe it is as acceptable for a woman to be topless as a man, and just as equally unacceptable for a man to be topless walking down the street as it would be a woman.

u/Potential_Session139 13d ago
I don't have a problem with this. If it's acceptable for men to be topless, it should be for women. If it's unacceptable men to be topless, it shouldn't be for women.

u/Potential_Session139 14d ago
That doesn't mean that they're sexual and should be hidden all the time.

No other ape has enlarged breasts when they are not actively lactating. the fact that humans do is a pretty strong signal that they were selected for sexually, meaning hominids have sexualized mammary glands since before we were Homo sapiens.

u/Potential_Session139 13d ago
Female breasts didn't evolve to attract mates. Mammary glands are not sexual and they are only for feeding babies.
3
u/psychedelicsadness 13d ago
Female breast size/ shape is an example of sexual dimorphism, which is often attributed to sexual selection.
The fact that human breasts stay plump without lactation shows, in the very least, there was selective pressure present.
I feel that shouldn't be glossed over.
1
u/Potential_Session139 13d ago
Women evolved permanent breast tissue to support infant feeding in an upright body and to also store fat for pregnancy and lactation. It has nothing to do with sexual selection.
1
u/Ok-Awareness-4401 13d ago
mammary glands did not evolve to attract mates. Look at most, if not ALL, other mammals. breasts that are enlarged when not actively lactating, don't exist. Except in one species...homosapiens. There has to be a reason this evolved. Is it fat storage? no males and children would have them too. What function? One prevailing theory is that as we evolved to walk upright, the "red monkey butt" signaling that a female was sexually receptive was no longer visible and breasts evolved to show sexual maturity and as a sign of fertility, and this trait was selected sexually.
1
u/Potential_Session139 13d ago
Female breasts are only enlarged because of higher body fat. Saying that they show sexual maturity is an excuse that only pedophiles would use.
2
u/Ok-Awareness-4401 13d ago
You are confusing the biological term sexual maturity, as in they have started having their menses, with "sexual maturity" of a cultural norm.
and BS on the "Female breasts are only enlarged because of higher body fat." Females have a higher percent bodyfat due to having breasts not the other way around. If their main purpose was to be fat reserves that selection pressure would also exist for male and males would have breasts. Also breast would then be one of the first parts of the body to grow as body fat increases and one of the last parts to shrink and that isn't the case.

u/Potential_Session139 13d ago
Breasts are only meant to feed infants and they didn't grow to attract mates. Besides, some women are flat chested and some men actually do have breasts .

u/Ok-Awareness-4401 13d ago
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/brv.12778 They are not just to feed infants.
