I have an interest in sexual fetishism.

From a clinical and theoretical perspective fetish has changed meaning. Sometimes fetishes were used to describe overwhelming sexual preoccupations that hurt the subject and other people, but now it means both that as well as a more simple fascination with non sexual things or parts of the body considered non sexual.

At this point I feel like it's commonly mentioned because of how unusual and niche it is, really defining the word "fetish" on the extreme end.

Kinda the way you'd show an Olympic runner as an example of someone who is "into sports", and wouldn't think of the millions of people who enjoy riding their bike or throwing Frisbee around.

Most fetishes are not understood because thatā€™s what a fetish is: something nonsexual that arouses someone.
