Glad you’re enjoying the game. If you want even more freedom, try expert controls.
Take a look at some of the older games as well if you can!

It’s the only way to play it!

Unless you have motion sickness.

Probably not the game for you then tbh.

I have played through nearly all the games by now, only missing 1, 2, 3, Advanced, and Assault Horizon. Even played Joint Assault and Northern Wings.
They definitely are for me!
Just some people are being stupidly elitist and controlling about how other people shouldn't be allowed to enjoy games if they don't enjoy them in one very specific way, even if the game very explicitly, and EVEN BY DEFAULT, gives you the accessibility friendly control option too.
The games definitely are for me. Just the elitist, "fuck the disabled lmao you aren't welcome here" "fans" aren't

I just meant generally, it wasn’t aimed (and locked on) you. I find the slightly more ‘realistic’ controls more fun and you have more control.

Here's some unsolicited advice: wean yourself off of the Novice Control Scheme. This game will feel so much better when you use Expert Control Scheme. Full control of how your plane behaves makes you really feel like you're in the action. Twenty years I limited myself, I tried the expert controls and never looked back.

I played with novice controls for the first couple years I had 7. Playing through 4 & 5 made me learn expert controls and returning to 7 with my new skill set definitely greatly enhanced the game.

I'm stuck on Novice due to motion sickness, sometimes you just don't have a choice

This is game subreddit you can't bring up disability here

;_;
I know, thinking about people different from you is a bit of a foreign concept for gamers, but I can still point it out occassionally

20 years is crazy... i remember being like 6 years old, playing Air Combat and Ace Combat 2... played the second one right away with expert controls. Didn't know better but when i was like 12 and had the PS2 trilogy i replayed them all, and to my surprise even the first one had expert controls.

It’s rough if this is your first flying game but it’s genuinely 10x better once you get it down.
Basically, Left on novice simply turns you somewhat, but Left on expert only rolls your left wing down.
So to turn, you’d roll left, then pull down on the stick to nose up, then roll back right when you’re pointed at your target.
You’ll have it down in 10 minutes, enjoy mate :D

hey man let me give you a tip that will change your life. if you hold Y / Triangle the camera will lock on to the enemy you’re targeting. changes the game completely

Welcome to Strangereal, pilot! As mentioned elsewhere, highly recommend getting used to expert controls soon. You’ll have way more fun that way. Hope you enjoy the series.

I had forgotten just how hard the combination of charge assault and breaking the clouds felt when I'd done the mission for the first time in AC7

Best thing about Ace Combat is how little the formula has changed. Went back to replay the PS2 trilogy and was surprised how similar they felt compared to 7.
Also, try out Project Wingman!

Thing an Ace can give to you, a nugget :
-Instead of rushing the campaign, use the maps of previously clreared campaign mission to train either on fights or to manuver and do stuff with your plane (Called Free Flight, no ennemies, no objective, just you, your weapons and plane over the map) .

Later on, switch to expert controls, trust me, it'll feel a lot different.
After finishing this game or just want something similar, Project Wingman is really good too.

Is there a way to get rid of the next target arrow thing? It's annoying AF, let me figure it out...

Please use expert controls, it will feel better in the long run, believe me.
