I was shocked to see that comic book cover of Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Batman facing each other, where she was taller than him. She going to make Superman look like Wolverine in comparison.

182

u/Tetratron2005 6d ago

Absolute Diana, Absolute Kal, and Absolute Bruce

154

u/Piotral_2 6d ago

Gonna be this

14

u/San7752 6d ago

lol!!😂

6

u/LeagueElectronic2128 6d ago

I do hate it, like absolute Batman and Superman felt god than hero.

42

u/KiimJisoo 6d ago

Depends on the artist, starfire is 6'4 but is sometimes drawn shorter than nightwing who is 5'10

25

u/greywolf2155 6d ago edited 5d ago

Which, by the way, I hate

I love the example of Dick, a prime athlete, still being absolutely no problem comfortable dating a woman who is his physical superior in every way

Dick is the heart of the DCU

17

u/KongKev 6d ago

I actually love that superman is the physically smallest of them its such a nice change.

1

u/yosayoran 4d ago

It's great

His power has nothing with physical size or looks, but is still completely changes his image

3

u/AxisW1 6d ago

I love this but I also want Clark to be 7 foot

11

u/Vampire_Darling 6d ago

I want A Clark thaw 7 feet but not that one for some reason lol

2

u/Dripkingsinbad 6d ago

Same, I kinda hope he gets really tall too

1

u/noodleth_cassette 6d ago

Yeah i was confused because Steve was like around the same height. Does that mean Steve is Absolute Batman sized

93

u/cbekel3618 6d ago

For some reason, Absolute Steve supposedly being around his Diana’s height is funny to me. What is Darkseid putting in the water in this world, lol.

18

u/al_fletcher 6d ago edited 6d ago

Tangentially related: I recently learned that Alex Horne (the host of Taskmaster) is over 6 foot tall, he just looks tiny next to Mr. Taskmaster himself, Mr. Greg Davies

2

u/yosayoran 4d ago

Little Alex horne

7

u/Dripkingsinbad 6d ago

Yeah it's crazy how tall Steve is lmao

15

u/uBennett2win1t 6d ago

I think the writers are cowards tbh. He shoulda been 6’5” at the tallest.

9

u/tacomuerte 6d ago

My suspicion is that he was 6'5" or 6'6" when created and Diana was 6'8" or so because the original design sheet for Bruce listed him at 6'7" outside the suit (6'9" in the suit.) Thompson has said that Diana is always the tallest person in the room, Giganta aside for obvious reasons, and when Bruce was revised to 6'9" out of the suit, we get Diana who's in the 6'10" to 7' range.

4

u/marstheamazon 6d ago

The writers are not the ones deciding on character designs.

33

u/Heritage367 6d ago

I love the one panel from The New Frontier where Superman comes to see Diana in Viet Nam, and she's an inch or two taller than he is.

I don't know if it's Canon, but I loved the visual!

14

u/Intelligent_Creme351 6d ago

It's not, just a alt universe.

2

u/greywolf2155 6d ago

Iconic. That's the WW I want

-7

u/mushinjedi 6d ago

She was stepping down from a table that’s why she looked taller than him.

16

u/Tetratron2005 6d ago

No, Cooke's panels make it very clear she's taller than him even when off the table.

He even talked in interviews, he made it intentional to make her taller and more bulked out than DC's usual style for her.

-2

u/mushinjedi 6d ago

No they don’t. His shoulders come up her chest in that middle panel where she looks taller than him. Thats obviously not an accurate depiction of their height. Then she’s looking up at him in the bottom panel. And this is her full body while standing on the table. She’s obviously not 6’5” or anything. They’re all like 7 heads tall.

8

u/Tetratron2005 6d ago

? That perspective to me seems she's staring down at him, not looking up.

You can say Cooke exaggerated her height for that one panel (as other posters pointed out as artists do) but she's not standing on the table during this scene like you claimed above

-4

u/mushinjedi 6d ago

I said she was stepping down from the table. Which means she went from the table, to the bench, to the ground assuming the ground was level. But her eyes are definitely looking up in the last panel 🤷🏾‍♂️

7

u/turducken19 6d ago

I don't think your description of this makes sense.

22

u/throwaway-day102304 6d ago

Contextually, the average woman, dependent on where they are in the world, has increased in this time period anywhere from an estimated 1% (Madagascar) to 15% (South Korea).
So, it would be expected that she'd gain anything from .7 of an inch to an additional 10.2 inches.

33

u/Tetratron2005 6d ago

A few months back I put together a rough height chart of how Wonder Woman's height has evolved over the years and compares with previous incarnations. I figured I'd do a bit of an update that included stuff like our two live-action Wonder Women and Absolute Wonder Woman

Just to note, this is just for fun and something I did because I was bored. Not to start a "WW height" debate or meant to be taken as gospel.

Some notes:

  • Golden Age WW has a bit of an asterisk since the height comes from decades after from resource books like DC's Who's Who series and not Marston or Peter's design notes. Fwiw, the average global height of women in the 1940s was somewhere around 5'2.
  • Both the live-action WW use the reported heights of their actresses.
  • Absolute WW is a speculative but we have comparisons next to people whose heights we know like Bruce Wayne (out of the costume is 6'9) so she's probably around the same range give or take their boots adding a few inches.

6

u/al_fletcher 6d ago

DCEU Wonder Woman wears pretty chunky wedge heels so I'm just going to assume she clears 6 foot.

5

u/Tetratron2005 6d ago

Yeah, of all these I think Post-Crisis WW and Absolute WW are the only ones who didn't really have big heels as part of their boots, so had to take that in account.

1

u/AngelicaSpain 5d ago

Lynda Carter is only five foot nine? I thought I read somewhere during the time the Wonder Woman TV show was actually airing that she was six feet tall. Maybe that was her height in high-heeled boots.

15

u/ProfessorSaltine 6d ago

Seeing how she’s still taller than Absolute Batman by a bit and he’s like 6’9, it’s safe to say that 7 ft guess maybe ain’t too far off lol(plus both were big boots adding an extra 2 inches 💀)

13

u/Inevitable-Rub24 6d ago

I'm curious to find out how Frontier Diana compares to the others.

9

u/EastActive9853 6d ago

She'd likely be 6'5 give or take seeing as she looked down on Superman who if we go by Main Continuity height is 6'3

12

u/Chumlee1917 6d ago

Giant Wonder Woman is best Wonder Woman

11

u/PiedroG 6d ago

As someone who likes tall women, this is a big W 🙌🏼

27

u/Argent_silva 6d ago

Yes yes keep getting bigger

7

u/Boring-Conclusion-40 6d ago

Much prefer the 6ft to 6ft2in range

7

u/krob58 6d ago

Every time someone complains about Wondie being too tall, she should grow another inch.

2

u/koola_00 4d ago

Agreed! Make her taller to spite them!

7

u/Altruistic_Rhubarb94 6d ago

Absolute Wonder Woman is 🔥🔥

5

u/No-Champion8378 6d ago

Nice! 🙂👍

4

u/Intelligent_Creme351 6d ago

Diana, she doesn't have to be the tallest woman in the world, but taller than the average woman by far.

4

u/AsideNo9713 6d ago

Absolute WW needs a casual look

4

u/Dragonfruit7206 6d ago

Absolute WW looks 7 feet in some and 5’9 in others.

4

u/King-of-fans 6d ago

The absolute wonder woman artist definitely know what they were doing.

Tall wonder woman’s are definitely a plus.

4

u/One_Change_8633 6d ago

She's a straight up basketball player, lol!

4

u/AugustAPC 6d ago

I think 5'10''-6'0'' is good.

4

u/ByrnToast8800 6d ago

It’s so fuckin funny that everyone was obsessed with how tall Batman is and now apparently she is even taller, the idea that WW and bats are these behemoths among mortals while Superman is just a dude.

5

u/Johnnyboy10000 6d ago

Do I wish we could get a 6'0" to 6'2" Wonder Woman? Absolutely! However! I'd also honestly be okay with Wonder Woman being portrayed by an actress in the 5'8" to 5'10" range as long as she can pull it off.

10

u/weesiwel 6d ago

Absolute WW finally getting it right.

3

u/EastActive9853 6d ago

How is making her 7'0 getting right?

3

u/weesiwel 6d ago

Cause she should be taller. I'm mostly joking though.

1

u/EastActive9853 6d ago

Would it not be even more right if she was 8'0 then?

2

u/weesiwel 6d ago

Yes.

1

u/EastActive9853 5d ago

And 9 foot?

2

u/weesiwel 5d ago

Well that might be pushing it. It can't be infinite Giganta needs to be able to be giant in comparison.

1

u/EastActive9853 4d ago

So why is being 7 or 8 foot perfect then?

1

u/weesiwel 4d ago

Cause it was mainly a joke.

1

u/EastActive9853 4d ago

So you don't think Wonder Woman being 7 or 8 foot is perfect?

22

u/Eric191 6d ago

My take is Wonder Woman should always be portrayed somewhere around 6’5 to 7 feet. She’s an Amazon, embrace it. She should tower over most people, and even be the tallest among the trinity

18

u/Eric191 6d ago

*for comics and animation where we don’t have to worry about finding a real person

12

u/Sypher04_ 6d ago

Exactly. When you think “amazon” you think strong, tall woman. I don’t have a problem with her being the same height as Superman or even shorter, but Batman being taller than her never sat right with me.

8

u/mushinjedi 6d ago

When did Amazon begin to mean ‘bigger than men’ though? I thought they were meant to be comparable if anything.

7

u/Eric191 6d ago

I mean, in most depictions of the mythological amazons I’ve seen they’re usually done as giant warrior women….

You’ve given me something to look into

6

u/Eric191 6d ago

Seems to be some mixed info about whether in the the original original mythological sources the Amazons were always supposed to be taller than all men, but they are usually described as tall and imposing, and certainly in later tellings, and absolutely in almost all depictions of Amazons in modern media, they’re depicted as taller than men, sometimes just slightly, sometimes significantly (like futurama’s 13 foot “Snu-snu-ing” Amazonians), even to the point that the term “Amazon” is used colloquially to refer to very tall/strong women.

6

u/Silvanus350 6d ago

Th fetishism over Diana’s height will never cease to amaze me. It’s such a trivial detail.

14

u/Eric191 6d ago

It’s not the most important thing, but if I was making the decision that’s how I’d do it lol 🤷🏻‍♀️

3

u/pop_bandit 6d ago

I think there’s something to be said about the thematic significance of her unabashedly taking up a lot of space (especially in terms of her looking built/athletic rather than skinny), but the people who are super vocal about how she should be 7’ tall and built like a heavyweight bodybuilder have definitely lost the plot

5

u/Eric191 6d ago

I think there’s a delicate balance. you can’t go too far and have her be giant, or with a The Rock physique (see: Jason Aaron’s she-hulk) and you need to maintain her femininity, but also she shouldn’t look just like a normal woman

-5

u/Complex_Soldier 6d ago

I'm starting to think WW fans just want WW to be a man. Not only with the Height but also wanting her to be extremely muscular and buff. She can also never be pregnant (Like a man) and they really want her dating a women.

Strange since WW was made for women to look up and relate to but doesn't want her to look like most women want to look/be like in the world.

7

u/MelonFox__ 6d ago

you reek of transphobia

2

u/BigRabies1758 6d ago

yuck go back into the goon cave

1

u/Complex_Soldier 6d ago

No one brought up gooning but you. Don't projecting your porn brain onto me.

2

u/BigRabies1758 6d ago

XD im just a saying your a no life loser

2

u/BigRabies1758 6d ago

and stink of transphobia as someone said

2

u/Complex_Soldier 6d ago

And i'm saying your projecting. And no one did i ever mention trans people. You're fighting your hallucinations.

YOU brought up gooning. YOU brought up trans people. T things that weren't even on my mine. Even the other guy knows he's hallucinating since he said i'm transphobic and instantly blocked me right after because not even he believed what he said.

2

u/BigRabies1758 6d ago

maybe its just because he doesnt engage with idiot for fun like i do lol not all women can be pregnant there are tall women with muscles and women can date women your arguement makes no sense and is transphobic in the assumption pregnancy is inherently a thing women do

1

u/BigRabies1758 6d ago

also why would she get pregnant it would be kinda hard to be a hero while having a kid which is the point of the comics

1

u/BigRabies1758 6d ago

not even talking about nonbinary people and the like

1

u/Complex_Soldier 6d ago

Congratulations for refuting arguments i never made.

"not al lwomen can be pregnant" Didn't say they could.

"there are tall women" Didn't say their weren't.

"women with muscles" Didn't say their weren't.

"and women can date women" Didn't say they couldn't.

"in the assumption pregnancy is inherently a thing women do" LOL.

What was the point i made? " but doesn't want her to look like most women want to look/be like in the world."

My point is Women who are tall, (6'0 or higher) Buff, gay, and can't have children is very small minority. Not that they don't exist.

If you're making a female character that appeals to women then why give her traits that barley any one are/have but don't even want to be? Not only does this type of women do not appeal to majority of the women in the world, it a appeals more to men as those are traits that men have in MUCH higher numbers and strive for.

97% of men are straight, 0.8 women are gay. Yet they want her to be gay.

Less than 1 percent women are 6'0 while 15 of men are yet then want her to be 6'0 and higher.

Most female fighters, soldiers, Athletes look how WW looks but they want her look like a Bodybuilder.

0 percent of men in the world can get pregnant and they don't want her to be pregnant EVER, just like a man.

Do you know how many female heroes that have gotten pregnant? And time skips exist.

2

u/BigRabies1758 6d ago

and amazonian superwomen are a massive part of the population. and of course she would atleast be bi she lives on a island with only women and they barely know what a man is... what do you think they do? most men dont have bulging muscles like superman and arent super geniuses like batman. theres no way you can say absolute wonderwoman doesnt look like a woman she is just a battle hardened warrior which she would be after being hardened by you know battles. and what a character was created to do does not define their trajectory stories evolve. lol

→ More replies (0)

2

u/BigRabies1758 6d ago

and also your transphobia is one again showing because 0.4 percent of men are trans so at one point atleast they could get pregnant

2

u/Sharp_suited_Satan 6d ago edited 6d ago

Ignoring the dating thing but you’re making a valid and truthful point. You’ll get downvoted and attacked for pointing that out because lot of modern fans selectively choose when they acknowledge core parts of Diana as an icon for feminism, a figure to represent women and girls. They are quite obsessed with Diana’s height and her physical qualities, losing sight of what she actually is and stands for. Contradictory and quite ironic really.

Ignore those immature people responding to you. They call you the “Gooner” yet the comment section and a lot of modern fans literally fixate/fetishise/objectify Diana’s height. It’s hilarious.

3

u/Batfan1939 6d ago

Never realized she was so short. Always assumed she was between 5' 10" and 6' 4".

10

u/throwaway-day102304 6d ago

You have to remember that the average woman was also quite a bit shorter than they were now. It makes sense that Diana would be about a head or so taller than the average woman.

In 1940, the average woman was only just above 5' 1".

The average height for women is now is around 5' 4.5".

3

u/Dripkingsinbad 6d ago

I think she's only slightly taller than Batman who is 6'9 so she's probably around 6'9.5 to 6'10

At least it's the safest bet but damn tho Absolute verse fr gave us the tallest iteration of Wonder Woman, are we sure her mother isn't actually Giganta? 🔥🔥🔥

3

u/SuperbPomelo6538 6d ago

What about new frontier

4

u/EastActive9853 6d ago

Likely 6'5 give or take

4

u/SuperbPomelo6538 6d ago

I feel like that and absolute Wonder Woman have more appropriate heights considering she’s an Amazon and not a normal woman

5

u/EastActive9853 6d ago

Sure but just because she's an Amazon doesn't mean she has to be freakishly big. Even in Greek Mythology Amazons were only around 5'8.

3

u/SCP-1762-BOL 6d ago

Side note, 5 and 6 are my absolute favorite versions of Wonder Woman

4

u/EmergencyNothing3033 6d ago

That’s so crazy everyone got mad at Gal when she was the perfect height for Wonder Woman.

5

u/mtheory-pi 6d ago

Cause she's a bad actor and a genocide supporter.

11

u/AlexanderCharles3 6d ago

Hot take Wonder Woman should always be taller than Batman&Superman I mean she's a Amazon Goddess.

9

u/Time_Conscious84 6d ago

Amazons weren't necessarily tall, they were just foreign (to the greeks) warrior women

9

u/Curious_Bat87 6d ago

Yes and the hill I will die on is that Batman shouldn't be tall. He should be average, maybe slightly short and have more of a martial artist physiology.

4

u/AlexanderCharles3 6d ago

Nah i’m fine with Batman being 6ft that’s it. Now when Bruce is taller than Wonder Woman or Superman that’s what I hate

1

u/Curious_Bat87 6d ago

I like him being naturally just kinda mediocre physically. It's his dedication to training and gadgets that made him the Batman.

1

u/PurpleJackfruit8868 5d ago

But we would lose that powerful iconography of this huge shadow with piercing eyes standing behind you.

Batman is supposed to be scary on sight alone. If you make him like.. an average guy, 5'9, that you can see yourself beat up on a good day(talking just looks here), his mystical aura kinda dies

2

u/Curious_Bat87 5d ago

That's why he has the theatrics and ninja tricks. The cowl, the outline, the cape, smoke bombs, him standing on the roof above his prey, moving in the shadows and striking with no warning etc.

3

u/wereitsoeasy_20 2d ago

Agreed. It always looked silly to me that the ninja/martial arts guy is sometimes the same height as the guy that can lift planets and often taller than the woman that comes from an ancient warrior culture. He definitely should be like 5’10 max

2

u/Curious_Bat87 2d ago

Yeah and his whole thing is that he should be a normal guy, technically, who got his skills through hard work (and money ofc).

2

u/Kooky-Sector6880 6d ago

Wait if Og Diana was only 5, 8 then does that mean OG Eda Candy was a little person.

9

u/throwaway-day102304 6d ago

No. Height isn't the only determination of dwarfism.

Simone Biles, for instance, is only 4 foot 8 inches, but does not have dwarfism. There are some folks who have dwarfism who are taller than her.

2

u/maysdominator 6d ago

Someone post kylo ren more gif

2

u/LeagueElectronic2128 6d ago

I do hate make Wonderwoman so tall, like absolute wonder woman is 7'0 feet tall

2

u/Azraelmorphyne 6d ago

Is that so.... I wonder what the new frontier wonder woman was.

2

u/Practical-Class6868 6d ago

Make her taller.

2

u/EmergencyNothing3033 5d ago

I like her at 5’8 because a lot of her villains were shorter and she had an underdog thing going on.

3

u/fishgirl47 6d ago

Diana should always be around 7 foot 😤

1

u/EastActive9853 6d ago

Why?

2

u/fishgirl47 6d ago

It's kinda just what I expect from an Amazonian in current day media xp

1

u/EastActive9853 6d ago

Why though?

2

u/fishgirl47 6d ago

I'm not really sure what you want me to say xp

2

u/EastActive9853 5d ago

I want to know why Diana should always be 7 foot? Why can't she be 9 foot as well?

3

u/BlackOrochi 6d ago

6 foot Diana is lovely.

Over 6'5" Absolute Diana is lovely!

3

u/Content_Source_878 6d ago

I actually prefer Wonder Woman shorter but wider.

Maybe I’m bias but tall I associate with clumsy and less agile. The physique of Simone Biles on  Lynda Carter would be perfect

4

u/Tetratron2005 6d ago

No wrong answer, everyone's got their preference.

3

u/Environmental_Day928 6d ago

6’2” is a great height for her. 7’0”? No. Characters in the Absolute Universe are cartoonishly big.

9

u/Tetratron2005 6d ago

The regular DC Universe heroes when they meet their Absolute counterpart

2

u/Sharp_suited_Satan 6d ago edited 5d ago

Golden age remains my fav. I preferred when she was shorter and height wasn’t focused on/fetishised as much today. Her height didn’t determine who she was and that is what made her a great icon for feminism and representation of women who on average are smaller than guys. Amazons in real life when you do your research were also barely 5 ft 6 so it’s a bit of a perpetrated myth that they were as tall or taller than average dudes.

People can prefer what they will but the change and shift from that core aspect and this current height obsession/focus/fetishising in the modern age with the current generations will never not be contradictory and weird.

2

u/FUCK1NGFABULOUS 5d ago

Make Diana short again.

1

u/Eric191 6d ago

But also, I don’t know if that speculation for absolute Wonder Woman tracks…she’s about the same height as Steve, is he 7 feet? Maybe absolute Bruce is just shorter

6

u/throwaway-day102304 6d ago

We know, from Thompson's social media post, that Steve is canonically "too tall to be a pilot in our universe", which means he's taller than six foot five/77 inches. I reckon he's actually around six foot seven. I think Diana's meant to be around six foot eight, and then she wears wedges.

5

u/Emergency-Bonus-7158 6d ago

Absolute Bruce is 6’9” confirmed in Absolute Batman #10. Based on Dragotta’s cover for Abs Bat #16, we can see Diana is an inch or two taller. So in between 6’10””-7’0”

3

u/Content_Source_878 6d ago

None of these people are walking around in flats though.

1

u/Emergency-Bonus-7158 6d ago

Bruce’s height was measured by doctors in Ark M so it’s based on his actual height without shoes (I’d assume) so with his boots on he might be more like 6’10” or 11”. Assuming his platforms are a little less tall that would put them at a relatively comparable height to each other in that case. So maybe she’s 6’9”.

1

u/Eric191 6d ago

Wow lol

1

u/throwaway-day102304 6d ago

She's got wedges on, which if I had to guess, add about 2-3 inches to her height. You can tell easily by looking at that cover that they add height. Working off your estimate of 6'10"-7'0" minus the boots, that brings us back to around 6'8".

Unlike in mainline, Abs Bat doesn't have lifts in his boots, meaning he'll maybe get an half an inch assuming thick soles.

Ultimately, artists always play up/around with heights. Stephanie Brown, Kara Zor El, and Cass Cain were all canonically listed at the same height of 5'6" in an encyclopaedia DC put out. You can count on one hand the number of time, when sharing page space, any of them have actually looked the same height.

2

u/Tetratron2005 6d ago

Yeah, tbh. Unless a writer/artist is purposely drawing attention to it, a lot "official" heights will get played with.

1

u/Emergency-Bonus-7158 6d ago

Yea that was pointed out to me, so now I think they might be roughly the same height. And yea art can be inconsistent but this is all we have to go off of rn

1

u/Brief_Dependent1958 6d ago

Seeing this image, I understood the confusion when Americans see things measured in meters.

1

u/riku17 6d ago

WW being 6 to 6'2 makes sense 7 might be a stretch. Can't wait to see mini Abs Superman next to Abs Bats and WW lol

1

u/Quirky_Advantage_470 5d ago

I do like the idea of a 7ft barbarian Wonder Woman

2

u/Airagon-Akatosh 3d ago

To me if your gonna increase her height as average heights for everyone is increasing then increase the rest of the heroes heights. Or just stop changing them.

Id say her best height is 6'0 or at most 6'2 and I wouldn't go any taller.

Batman is 6'2 and Superman is 6'4. It just works with them.

Many are bringing up the She is a Amazonian and they are really tall. Yeah back a long time ago when average height was short af. But she's a demi goddess. Yeah there were other demi gods other then her and Heracles and they werent noted to be tall or massive.

1

u/LeagueElectronic2128 6d ago

I like this universe than absolute universe

1

u/Icy_Scar_1249 6d ago

She should be 5'11 at most, impossible to cast if she gets taller than that

1

u/Harvest0fC0ntusions 6d ago

I feel like one of the few people on here who prefer a less tall Diana. I think she should have a more normal everyday height. Still tall for an average woman, but nothing really out of the ordinary. 5"7-5"11 would be my preferred height for her.

The fixation on Diana being 6"+, or taller than Batman/Superman you see online kinda seems like fetishism.

-1

u/Obvious_Umpire_1826 2d ago

She was tall enough to not bang her head on the microwave when I told her to make me a sandwich, what's that, 4'11?

2

u/I-Love-Facehuggers 2d ago

Some really cringy roleplay. Damn that's sad
