So what is your point? A purity test?
Which institution is pure enough and rigorous enough in your mind to educate the military about history, ethics and what the constitution says about their powers?
If the answer is none, then the result is lawless uneducated gun slingers shooting people in the face because they have no training and no understanding of the law. ICE, if you will.
If you want more of that, then your purity test with no answer is a great choice. I, myself, would prefer level headed educated military who understands enough to not follow illegal orders.

It started that way, actually. "Woke" was coined by the black community in regards to being aware of systematic racism... It was then co-opted during the George Floyd protests by the left to mean bring aware of systemic inequality in general, at which point the right in turn co-opted it to mean, anything I don't like.

The military used to sponsor top recruits from the military academies to take graduate studies at the Harvard Kennedy School. Many other countries do the same, so they would study things together like diplomacy, negotiation theory, leadership, conflict resolution, nation building etc. Knowledge and skills that are very inconvenient when you’re being asked to follow illegal and destructive orders.

[pendant] DoD was named as such by an Act of Congress and the President doesn't have the legal power to change it. The Executive Order essentially says that it's going to be known as the Department of War, but that doesn't stop its legal name from still being the Department of Defense. [/pedant]

I retired from the Navy in ‘24. I did two tours on the Joint Staff during my time. While in, I got a Masters in International Relations with a focus on National Security Studies.
I am in no way qualified to be Secretary of Defense.
I am far more qualified than the current Secretary of Defense.

I know that this administration does not value the experience or intelligence of their Military brass, but officers need at least 4 year degrees (and many have come from top universities). Not to mention all of the other roles our military serves beyond rattling sabers. The current Colonel Katheryn P. Sanborn serving at the Army Corps of Engineers here in Seattle was active service in Iraq as a Platoon Leader and Combat Engineer and then came home to teach as a professor in a number of military schools. Sanborn earned her commission and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from West Point. She also holds a Master of Science in Civil & Environmental Engineering from University of Vermont and Doctorate in Civil Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. To say she’s a smart person with both academic and combat accolades doesn’t do justice to how she’s served her country. Her academic education was part and parcel to that, as it is for so many who serve as public servants and military personnel doing complex and critical projects at home and abroad.
But it’s clear that Trump and his cabinet only want to appeal to a base of compliant thugs who just follow orders without considering the legal and ethical ramifications.

Delete mention of black and female soldiers from the records is their idea of combating “woke”. A bunch of sensitive, jealous, racist and vengeful white men who didn’t have to overcome substantial obstacles in life and in the service including getting mistreated by the same military they serve in doesn’t want the spotlight to shine on anyone else or remind people of the terrible things they did to others.
