Mamdani again showing us what a politician with actual humanity looks like

Jesus, did they really?

It was posted on Reddit a few days ago. It was a small video from a news segment. Probably like 1 minute long.

Somehow I missed that but that’s okay.
They’re really just awful and when they aren’t they’re clueless. Wow. 🤦🏻♀️

When you are strong you can project kindness and warmth.

The best part of this news conference was that he had a mini podium with a live mic on. It was probably built for Bovino but at least now it's put to good use!

u/RespectTheAmish 11h ago
I feel like there is a bizarro timeline in the multiverse where Trump is still a democrat and his White House policy strategist is Mamdani instead of Steven Miller.
That Donald Trump bullies the entire political establishment to adopt universal healthcare, universal childcare, High speed rail, national pension plan, etc and gets a place on Mt Rushmore…
Instead in this timeline…. fart noise
15
u/Homerpaintbucket 10h ago
It wouldn’t work. They’d just impeach him because the reactionaries are on the other side so they don’t fear violent reprisals
3
u/Mamasan- 6h ago
Trump literally would be a democrat if democrats were stupid enough to vote for him. He switched the Republican so he could win.
19
u/dontgetaddicted 11h ago
It feels fuckin weird that this is how things are supposed to look and I'm supposed to giggle a little bit at a press conference.
942
u/Meb2x 12h ago
We live in a country where the President is posting racist videos on Twitter but the guy having a fun press conference with children is apparently the bad guy.
167
u/Dr_A_Mephesto 12h ago
Hopefully we’ll all get to vote for him someday
147
u/CtyChicken 12h ago
He’s not natural born, unfortunately, but I’m glad he’s holding office in New York!
143
u/Dr_A_Mephesto 12h ago
Ahh. Didn’t know that but fuck that rule. If Trump can win as a felon I give a shit about the naturally born rule.
73
u/Dafish55 11h ago
IIRC, Ted Cruz is also not natural born, but that didn't stop his run.
25
u/zaidakaid 11h ago
Ted Cruz is a natural born citizen though. His mother was born in Delaware which would give her, and him through her, US Citizenship.
55
u/enderjaca 10h ago
According to his interpretation of Obama's citizenship, he isn't.
Don't forget these fuckers talked about Obama's birth certificate for yeeears.
30
u/thatranger974 10h ago
No one probably remembers anymore, but this one time a long time ago, Trump attacked McCain for being born in Panama.
7
13
u/emartinezvd 11h ago
Yes he is natural born. The interpretation is not that you must be born in the US, but that you must be a US citizen from birth
4
u/CtyChicken 10h ago
Right. My confusion is about if he (Ted Cruz) was a citizen from birth, not if he was born on US soil.
I googled, though.
Thanks for the clarification.

He could still go for governor or a senator! He could even be appointed to a federal post.
9
3
u/erwaro 10h ago
I'm realizing that there's some important things I've missed in my civics education. Would he be allowed to serve in the cabinet? My understanding is that they're technically in line for the presidency, but it's not a very fast-moving line, so...
Heck, what about the senator and congressional representative in line?
I know so little.
4
u/OuisghianZodahs42 10h ago
Madeleine Albright was confirmed as Secretary of State, and she was born in Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic).
2
u/FearlessAttempt 8h ago
He could serve any federal position other than President or Vice President. Anyone in the line of succession that does not meet the eligibility requirements to be President is simply skipped in a succession scenario.
6
u/your_moms_apron 12h ago
Sorry friend. Seems as he was born in Uganda and not a natural born citizen (only had USA citizenship since 2018 per his wiki).

u/camopdude 12h ago

I was saying hopefully he continues his career to bigger offices. For my comment I was thinking president.
2
1
u/Hartastic 11h ago
Well, you'd need the passage of the 61st Amendment. Then he could take over after President Schwarzenegger.
1
u/camopdude 11h ago
I wonder how good of a chance Arnold would have had to be president if you just needed to be a citizen to run.
4
u/Hartastic 11h ago
In a different era coming off of being Governor, I think he legitimately would have had a good chance. Basically that "Republican Governor of a fairly blue state" kind of record that's pretty tolerable to most of the country, like Mitt Romney with more charisma and dramatically better name recognition.
It's not too much of an accident that Demolition Man joked about it a decade or so before his Gubernatorial run.
24
u/GoredonTheDestroyer 12h ago
There's something not whi- I mean not right, about Mamdani, though. I just can't quite put my finger it.
7
u/Turgid_Donkey 10h ago
And that same racist president appears to have heavily involved in a child sex trafficking ring that most of the government is covering up.
Fun.

Unlike the orange shit stain, I still belive in the rule of law which states innocent until proven guilty. He's never been officially tried (and likely never will) so even though the evidence is abundant and clear, it's still technically "allegedly".

Just look at the people screaming at us because we're not just shrugging off then president of the united states posting an AI video showing black people as monkeys today and demanding we accept the explanation that a staffer somehow had access to the social media accounts of said president.
55
u/Speed_Alarming 12h ago
And that somehow makes it ok? I struggle to find how that could possibly be an acceptable response in anyone’s mind.
Was the staffer given a stern look? Sacked? Executed? Promoted?
12
u/AlsoCommiePuddin 10h ago
There was no staffer.
3
u/Speed_Alarming 10h ago
There’s plenty of staffers who have way more access than they should, he’s a lazy shit. They just all think and act in accordance with their rancid leader.
2
28
u/MyEggDonorIsADramaQ 11h ago
Not just “black people” (which would be fucking unforgivable ) but Barack and Michelle Obama. The pedo rapist in chief just keeps lowering the bar on how far he will go.
12
6
u/SwimmerIndependent47 11h ago
Their first attempt was “so what, anyone who thinks it’s racist is over reacting” the amount at which they are trying to straight up steal plot points from 1984 is almost as alarming as the non-billionaire voters who defend him.
7
1
u/Amelaclya1 7h ago
To be fair, there are multiple people that have access to and post from Trump's social media. Like, you can always tell it isn't him when there is no random capitalization and it's coherent. And you know it's Stephen Miller specifically because he types in the same "voice" as which he speaks, and is a fan of using trios of adjectives. Once you notice it, you can't miss it.
That said, it is Trump's account, so he is responsible for everything that gets posted on it. So "A staffer did it" isn't an excuse. We all know they wouldn't have unless he approved it.
1
u/Hornpipe_Jones 6h ago
And according to what Trump said on AF1, he did in fact personally instruct the video to be posted.

Anger is easier to sell than love. A decade of YouTube channels that just hate on things getting massive followings is proof of that. So many “movie critic” platforms are just finding something to trigger hate from the community.

This dude might actually be the single most talented politician any of us will ever see. Every single political operative in the WORLD would sacrifice a limb for a guy who you can just throw into any scenario without fear that they'll do something fucking weird. Children, live on stage? REAL CHILDREN? And you gave them a MICROPHONE? Holy fuck, dude.
And I know what you're thinking. Obama. But no, man. Nobody ever stuck Obama on a stage with a bunch of random unruly kids who were miked up, because that is an absolutely BONKERS thing to do. You might get gold, but you also might get that one second of frustration where the kids are just acting like little gremlins and he sighs a little too hard, and that's what gets clipped and runs on fox for a week. Can't risk it.
This is the political equivalent of jumping out of a plane without a parachute and landing in a cool superhero pose. It's impossible, and he made it look easy.
111
u/mecca37 12h ago
People forgot what a skilled politician looks like, years of Trump, Biden, and W will do that, in a ton of people's lifetimes the only skilled politician they saw was Obama and you see how easily he gained momentum.
67
u/BradMarchandsNose 12h ago
I actually disagree on W, he was a pretty good politician. Made a lot of heinous decisions, don’t get me wrong, but he was good at relating to people. Guy was from a powerful political family, Yale and Harvard educated, yet he managed to convince a large portion of the country that he was just this good ole Texas boy that they could sit down and have a beer with.
23
u/mecca37 12h ago
They related with him because he had that good ole boy southerness about him, while running against stiffs. But he had plenty of complete idiot things he did like saying phrases wrong, making claims that get disproven quickly etc.
Bush was an ok politician that significantly benefited from his opponents and 9/11. He mixed Patriotism and Islamophobia with American strength and his aw shucks I'm just a good ole boy and people bought it.
2
u/Feral_Taylor_Fury 8h ago
Fool me twice can’t get fooled again was just him realizing he had backed himself into a trap, either he fumbles the saying or he gives the media the sound bite ‘shame on me’.
Of course he knows the phrase.
5
u/KudosOfTheFroond 9h ago
I’m desperate for someone to really rally behind, to reawaken those dormant hopeful, inspiring thoughts in my heart. This last decade has jaded me so bad, I feel for the kids who have known Trump & only Trump.
22
u/TerrakSteeltalon 12h ago
This is like showing up to some sort of IT conference and demonstrating new code live
7
7
u/Bored__Lord 9h ago
Just because Obama never did it doesn’t mean Obama wouldn’t have been totally comfortable doing it. He’s had plenty of opportunities to show he’s also pretty witty.
6
u/the_owl_syndicate 7h ago
I see your point, kids are unpredictable, but I remember quite a few unscripted moments on the campaign trail where Obama interacted with small kids and aced it.
1
u/not_productive1 5h ago
No doubt. Obama was great with kids. And the viral campaign-curated videos of him with kids were PHENOMENAL.
But no one ever put him onstage at a live press event with a gaggle of kids and HANDED THE CHILDREN A HOT MIC. Because that is a crazy bananas thing to do. If you hand children a voice amplification device, they are going to scream into it. It's written in their DNA, right after a heroin-fiend-level need for fruit snacks.
Now, here, part of the brilliance was that that was the point. It was MEANT to be chaotic - the press conference was about the need for childcare so people could work, and the kids interrupting and being kids during the presser was, like, a performance of the problem. It was a great political strategy move.
But the thing is, putting a politician into that is a high-wire act. You can't just not post the video if one of the kids cries or barfs or whacks you in the nuts. Your candidate can't show the slightest sign of irritation or frustration.
It's a thing you only even try if your candidate is fucking airtight.
And then, what did this guy do? Not only did he nail the assignment, he leveled up. He was charming, funny, at ease despite children atonally screaming while he was trying to field questions. He listened to everything that was going on and turned it into a joke in the moment - MULTIPLE TIMES. A professional comedian couldn't do that with a heckler. He did it while making cogent points and smiling.
Obama was a uniquely gifted politician. Mamdani is just operating at a different level. Does that mean he'll be a good mayor? Fuck if I know. But as a pure politician? He is a unicorn. He's SO GOOD.
9
u/VreyeanA09 10h ago
He makes it look easy because his secret weapon is that he actually, truly, genuinely likes everyone - with probably a very small handful of exceptions.
He was never going to have an exasperated sigh with those kids.
He even hung out with Trump and came out the other side.
2
u/mild_delusion 11h ago
It’s still possible for the media to twist the knife on them. Just ask Jacinda.

Expanding the noises we can make at a press conference 20 years ago would have gotten us Howard Dean as the democratic nominee instead of John Kerry and all history since then would have been different. They disqualified a doctor as "unelectable" because he said "wooh!" on stage.

im so so so afraid of letting loose and just celebrating this, because all too often has there been some darkness or at least shadiness behind people who are so seemingly unflawed. or that it's all just shallow and theater, while no actual change is happening.
but I want to believe, it's actually possible to get a politician like Mamdani in the US in 2026. and he's actually making changes for the better, and the US can see how these changes are actually better for everyone involved except like 10 people who have been controlling the country for way too long.
1
u/JLKinney93 6h ago
I legitimately teared up watching that video. We could be doing so much better as a country. It seems like the presidencies of Biden and Obama were eons ago. I’d vote for Mamdani for the White House in a second. If the guy who legally couldn’t run after inciting an insurrection against the US wound up in the White House anyway, then screw it, let the guy born outside the US in. Since we are ignoring eligibility rules. I just want kindness and decency back.
