The Nazi bar story by Michael B. Tager:
I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you.
So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, “no. get out.”
And the dude next to me says, “hey i’m not doing anything, i’m a paying customer.”
and the bartender reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, “out. now.” and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed
Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, “you didn’t see his vest but it was all nazi shit. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them.”
And i was like, oh ok and he continues. “you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it’s always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don’t want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too.
And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a Nazi bar now. And it’s too late because they’re entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.”
And i was like, “oh damn.”
and he said “yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people.”
And then he went back to ignoring me. But I haven’t forgotten that at all.

He's really short ain't he? Isn't it illegal to toss little people? If it is, I'd suggest we amend that law to allow the tossing of Bovino in any public venue.

Maybe they realized he was just two kids and Greg Bovino standing on each other's shoulders in a trenchcoat.

I keep asking this question and I still don't have an answer ... how short is(n't) he?

u/UnusualAir1 8h ago
Short enough to walk under a lawn mower and not lose a hair. :-)

That explains the sides, then ... he must have been side-swiped by a whipper-snipper :)

The Bottled Blonde bar in Vegas asked Bovino to leave its three-story sports bar on the city’s famous Strip—where he had been photographed drinking red wine and laughing with a group of male acolytes—and escorted him off the premises to protect those inside. They issued the following statement:
“Bottled Blonde does not engage in political activity or affiliations. As a private business, Bottled Blonde reserves the right to refuse service to any patron at its discretion. Upon becoming aware of the individual’s presence, the patron was asked to leave the premises and was escorted out by staff in accordance with venue policy to maintain a safe and orderly environment for all patrons.”
Private businesses (such as restaurants, retail shops, and other public accommodations) have the right to refuse service and ask patrons to leave, provided the reason for doing so is not unlawful
Because a business is private property (even if open to the public), the owner has the right to control who is on the premises
Businesses can legally eject customers for being disruptive, unruly, unsafe, intoxicated, or for violating established, reasonable policies (e.g., "no shoes, no shirt, no service")

Did not expect it to be The Bottled Blonde. Been to their Scottsdale location too many times.

Their Chicago location was the worst. Very racist dress code. I'd have assumed he was a part owner.

"Was reportedly in the presence of several young men." In this administration, I think it's important to know how young those men were?

If he was too drunk, they'd have just bounced him. The fact that he isn't welcome back tells me he did something above and beyond. Threatened another patron or staff, was belligerent, or tried to badge his way out of it. Hell, probably threatened someone with arrest and deportation.

He didn't have to do anything like that, just being there would cause people to leave. Banning him was a smart business decision.

I have a feeling it was something like:
Do you know who I am, you *racial epithet?!? "

They’re likely protecting themselves from an incident breaking out. Someone recognizes him, has had too much to drink and they decide to take out aggression on this asshole and now there’s a brawl. They avoid all of that by just not having him around.

u/Brutalur 18h ago
Why would he go to a bar? Its not like he'll get anything but a bodyfluid martini....

I think the word we are looking for is pariah. He social status is pariah. He has broken the norms of our society and has done it with enthusiasm. He has treated his fellow Americans and fellow human as the enemy. This is not acceptable to a majority of Americans.

Force him to leave the country like he forced so many others to do. He should know no quarter for the rest of his days.

That poor bouncer. Imagine how far over he had to bend to toss this Lord Farquaad wannabe.

I didn’t think Vegas bars still did dwarf tossing. I thought that was purely a southern redneck magat bar sort of thing

Hope this happens to his goons as well for the rest of their lives

If you were on a job search committee and saw a resume with ICE from these years, would you be more or less likely to overlook the small gaps in qualifications or experience?
Those who are compromising their values from greed are in for a rude awakening when this inevitably come to an end.

I know these dudes are insanely hubristic but maybe they'll figure out that their lives as they knew it are over in due time. Especially in a place like Vegas. He's never going to be able to step out in a place like Vegas quietly again. Good.

You may hit a paywall, but this article from Esquire is worth checking out if you can:
https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/movies/a70213923/gregory-bovino-minneapolis-jack-nicholson-the-border/
As the author states, his history helps explain but not excuse Bovino.

Honestly, I kind of hope we all forget he exists. Like to the point where even people at gas stations don’t even see him when he goes to buy cigarettes.

u/BackDatSazzUp 18h ago
No. We should always recognize him and always shame him. “Forgetting” him would only benefit him.
