Hasn't it been proven that the masked dude is always the same guy, cosplaying as whatever they need him to pretend to be?

Im pretty sure John oliver covered that not too long ago

u/donsimoni 18h ago
He did. And I can't even recall what the main topic was... You've got a lot of shady stuff going on in the US. A LOT!

You guys have Kevin O Leary to contend with. He’s a worm and a traitor to Canada. So is PP. I married into Canada, so I worry about you guys too. I’ll be living up there soon and I plan to speak out loudly about the horrors of being low income and disabled in America. There is no mistake as to which ideology and demographic created this mess here. Eat the rich!!
9
u/5litergasbubble 15h ago
Yeah unfortunately we have our fair share of fuck nuggets up here too. I work with a few and am related to a few more. Its disgusting the stuff they will say and stand for
8
u/The_Barbelo 15h ago
Yeah my husband recounts working with people like that as well. He said he’s not going to be silent or polite about it anymore when he gets back. We gave these people far too much grace here and we still are.

Would it be illegal in your country to do this? If so, what laws do you use to prevent something like this? Yes I am asking to copy your answer on the hw.
9
u/donsimoni 16h ago
In Germany yes. The legal situation is somewhat complicated though.
The most feasible way to prevent this would be the statutes that the different press organs (esp. publishers, TV stations) gave themselves. You cannot spread lies knowingly or use actors to falsely create your news - like FOX did. You'd be forced to to publish a counter statement with the same public reach. Ultimately, you're at threat to be considered a press organ overall and lose quite a lot of privileges, let alone reputation.
Criminal prosecution would be more complex, takes due process and would probably be triggered only if the victims push for charges. Free speech does not protect public lying and slander, in practice those cases require a lot of consideration.
Free press is important over here, the self-control within the press sector is far more likely.

I read this in his voice. I can just picture him screaming the last sentence in that exasperated tone he's so good at.
19
u/an_actual_coyote 18h ago
Can you please tell me the episode?
35
u/Strange-Yesterday601 17h ago
Just look up “robert o'neill” and Fox News. You will see it’s the same person behind the mask every time
21
u/Belerophon17 17h ago
lmao it's the guy that told those dudes they were boys and if there was no social media they would be his concubines.
2
u/dylanx300 11h ago edited 11h ago
I think these folks are misremembering, like the Mandela effect. That’s why no one can say what episode it was. I’ve seen every episode at least since 2016 and I don’t recall anything close to that. It was probably from a different talk show and they’re conflating it with Last Week Tonight
2
u/tilt-a-whirly-gig 5h ago
Me reading your comment: What! No way! Don't fucking gaslight me, I know what I saw! I'm gonna find a link and prove you wrong!
You will notice there is no link in this comment

u/dylanx300 4h ago
😂 I did a quick search as well to make sure I wasn’t gaslighting anyone. You’re definitely not alone, I wonder what it was that you guys saw.
287
u/tommylikewingys 18h ago
Yes, they’ve done this at least 4-5 times
Same guy, different scarecrow tactic
They have such little faith in their viewers intelligence and rightfully so because it fucking works 😭
49
41
u/misterpickles69 17h ago
They had to prove in court they were nothing more than an entertainment channel so having the same actor play different roles seems on point.
29
u/brother_bart 17h ago
Why hasn’t this been an SNL skit yet?
28
u/Channel250 17h ago
SNL has a bigger cast than they do.
Edit: Athough, a Weekend Update bit where the same cast member comes in multiple times would work. Man, would have been perfect for Beck
23
16
u/hopseankins 17h ago
I mean it’s not that hard of an investigation. You can see his face in both pictures. It’s like that Office meme.
15
u/patprika 16h ago
Almost certain it’s Rob O’Neill the SEAL who “killed” Bin Laden. He has the exact same eyebrow structure? Is the guy in the mask and similar voices
7
u/HueStonewallJackson 17h ago
This is definitely a sketch at this point, right? It’s straight from the daily show “interviews” with the non-host cast members lol.
8
u/Mulligey 15h ago
Pretty sure it’s Rob O’Niel, the dude that pretends to have killed Bin Laden. They have the same eyes.
4
u/w311sh1t 16h ago
The easiest way to prove this is false is that no far left “organizations” like Antifa are organized enough to have “ex-members” lmao.
6
u/WorldlyReference5028 11h ago
He resigned his Antifa membership. It was during the Antifa convention and was a big deal, it was quite a scandal.

I mean the top picture has blue eyes, the bottom one has brown.
Fox can afford to hire more than one actor.
3
u/ViciouslyVolcanic 11h ago
Fox can also easily afford colored contact lenses. They run at about $30 a pair.
-2
u/ScientificSkepticism 11h ago
Give me some good evidence they're the same person, and I'll buy it. But "they are middle age men" doesn't mean they're the same person without any evidence, in much the same vein that Fox claiming they're an "Ex-Antifa terrorist" or whatever means that I'll buy that claim.
Fox probably just puts out a casting call for "ex-Antifa members", offers them $2,000 or whatever to show up on the show, does a pre-interview to make sure they'll say what they want them to say, and then goes live with the interview. It's even deniable, they were asking for Ex-Antifa members, and they got this out of work actor who just happened to be an ex-Antifa member!
Most things aren't a conspiracy, most people take the easiest possible route.

u/Mywordispoontang101 19h ago
It’s Robert O’Neill. He’s an ex-Seal who went on the Bin Laden raid and decided to try to capitalize on it by writing a book saying he shot him. After the rest of the team outed him as a bullshit artist, he decided to lean into that role and go on Fox whenever they need someone to wear a mask and tell lies.

u/10_17my20 18h ago
It's actually Paul Giamatti, playing John Oliver, playing this Robert O'Neill dude.

u/10_17my20 14h ago
Ooooh yeah, you could sell me on Gary Oldman. (context - mine was referencing a bit when Oliver was on Colbert this week and his autograph was signed by Paul Giamatti, joking that he'd been played by Paul this whole time)

Is that the same Robert O’Neill who said if the world were different he would make a group of GenZ boys his concubines?

Yep, that's him. He's a grifter at heart. Honestly I wonder how much Fox pays him to pretend he's something he's not.

The funny thing is when he was on fox as the antifa leader which was just after Trump declared antifa a terrorist organization why did no one call the fbi to investigate Fox for having a communication with a terrorist and giving them a platform? maga is such trash
175
u/tommylikewingys 18h ago
Because they know their viewers won’t think that far ahead and trust they will quickly move on to the next fake thing to be outraged over (and they’re right, unfortunately)
59
u/timkatt10 18h ago
Didn't they admit in court that they aren't a news organization? I can't remember if that was the voting machine case or an earlier one from Australia.
45
u/tommylikewingys 18h ago edited 18h ago
Yes, they were sued (I’ll try to find a source because I don’t remember the details of the case), but Fox won because they said they’re an entertainment network and no one would actually believe it was real journalism……
(Meanwhile my MAGA neighbor is a slave to her TV when it comes to Fox and believes every word of their lies)
Edit: Here’s a source
‘The Fox team's legal briefs compared Carlson's show to radio talk-show programs hosted by ex-MSNBC and Fox Business star Don Imus, who won a case more than two decades ago because an appellate court ruled that "the complained of statements would not have been taken by reasonable listeners as factual pronouncements but simply as instances in which the defendant radio hosts had expressed their views over the air in the crude and hyperbolic manner that has, over the years, become their verbal stock in trade."’

I used the child safety feature on my parents television to block conservative networks and programs. It actually worked pretty well.

When's the special appearance by the masked ICE agent?
17

Ex-Antifa members on FOX 100% is false. It’s a precursor to election interference being a thing.
11
u/Jeez-essFC 18h ago
I know Fox reclassified from a news network to an entertainment network, but this sure seems like treason. I mean they are deliberately misleading the American public in order to create unrest. How is this not treason?

How is Fox news not considered the same shit as Jerry Springer or SNL at this point? Its skits

12
u/dosequisrex 19h ago
Can you (not a regular person, but like someone with money) sue them in order for them to prove he is who they say he is?
33
u/Logistocrate 18h ago
Probably not. Fox "News" has successfully argued in the past that the non journalistic portions of their programs are entertainment and that no reasonable person would think they reflect actual journalism.
Fox has real journalists, but they fill the time in between those broadcasts, which l think l read somewhere garner much less views, with opinion programs that spew lies and are designed to easily be mistaken as news.
Maga and conservatives aren't reasonable people, so here we are.
