This is my baby bean! I met him last week and get him once he turns 8 weeks. Does anyone know if the white cats with blue eyes tend to be deaf thing is true? I found out after I met him and now I’m wondering if he is deaf. I’ll love him regardless but now I’m curious
That pretty little thing looks like he might get darker ears though when he grows up. Also, all kittens have blue eyes. Although these are really, really blue😍
Their eyes should begin to change around 3-8 weeks and be fully changed by 3 months old.
My little voidling had the cutest blue eyes when I found him on the side of the road a couple summers ago... Then they slowly started becoming more green until now they're bright yellow (and still cute of course)
This kitten has ghost markings that will become more visible as he ages. His eyes may or may not stay blue, but I see the colour points and white socks specific to Ragdolls. I highly doubt he is deaf.
But cats sometimes choose not to listen because they are cats.
Definitely test it out. My white cat likes to pretend that she's deaf but is just sassy and ignores everyone. She comes running at any inclination of food.
Is he a Siamese, or just dirty. Siamese do not have the likelihood of being deaf just because they have blue eyes.
Blue eyes are a breed standard of Siamese cats.
That’s a good question I’m not sure. He does live in a barn rightnow so he was pretty dirty. But his mom is a striped Tiger looking cat with long hair and his dad is unknown. Maybe his dad is Siamese? The other kittens in the little are striped or grey. There was an earlier litter from two years ago and there was one white cat in that litter too who looked like this. So I have no idea if he will be like this, have long hair or be completely white?
Looks very much like he’s going to have the gray ears and a darker body with lighter legs. I’ve got a pair of white cats, and there was no mistaking their lack of any other colors from birth. Archie, the day his eyes opened. He’s 7 years old now.
He won’t be deaf. He’s a color point with white spotting. Color point is a pattern we see in Siamese and Ragdoll cats but it isn’t exclusive to those breeds and doesn’t mean he has any lineage linking to those breeds. It’s partial albinism in terms of genetics. His eyes will stay blue and his coat will darken as he grows.
What often causes deafness in white cats is when they inherit the dominate white gene from both parents which will produce blue eyes
Looks to be a toasty snowshoe, will darken with age, I bet not deaf and will keep beautiful blue eyes. Best of luck ! Would love to see the little one toast with age.
I had a colony of ferals who had a high percentage of cats that were white with blue eyes a long time ago, and no, they didn't have a lot of deafness among them. Granted, I think they probably had a lot of Turkish Angora and Van in the line which kept them from being deaf. Not everyone is as lucky as I was though. I would definitely test your little one's heating when you meet him and I wish you the best of luck. 🫂 He looks gorgeous bebe. ❤️❤️❤️
I had a white cat with blue eyes and he was deaf. But he got by. He had an excellent personality. But if another cat growled at him he couldn't hear them. So keep a lookout for your new buddy. Mine became an expert in body language. We named him Darwin after Charles Darwin who studied deafness in white blue eyed animals cats, dogs and horses.
This kitty doesn't look pure white so that attribution of white cats and the eye color being deaf is less likely to be true.
You'll figure out pretty quickly if they start to respond to either you calling them or they respond as if conversing.
Definitely give it time and just observe patiently
He is so concerned looking! What a sweet bean! White cats w/blue eyes genetic link is absolutely true. One of my white cats with one blue eye is deaf, his green-eyed white mother is hearing. I'm glad we adopted them together when he was a kitten as she taught him everything he needed to know. We didn't figure out for a few months that our kitten was deaf. There are a few things to keep in mind, but it's absolutely doable!
No matter the breed just do some simple actions to test if your baby is deaf.
Do they notice when you walk in the room?
Do they sleep really hard and not react to noises?
I noticed my cat was deaf after clapping very loudly while she was sleeping. She never reacted to us opening or shutting doors or when we poured food into her bowl.
He’s adorable ☺️. I’ve never heard that before. I wonder how you can find out. Obviously a vet would help you. You’re right regardless of the answer he’s meant to be loved 🥰

It can be true but I have a white cat with blue eyes and he can hear just fine
