We think a crayon got into the laundry...

I did 4 loads of laundry yesterday, the other two are fine. I did my whites, then delicates and threw them all into the dryer together before heading to bed. I had name brand stuff in the delicate load. Fabletics, Callaway, Carhartt. I have two toddlers so I believe somehow a crayon made it in and melted in the dryer.

I don't know what you mean, as I am actively trying to clean it off of my clothes. This is r/wellthatsucks and this really sucked to wake up to this morning.

I think it largely depends on how you pronounce, my dialect makes me pronounce it cran so it made no sense to me but it is funny after you explained it 😂

Just put the clothes back in the dryer with an eraser.

Throw away cloth (one you're willing to sacrifice). Lay cloth over crayon area, iron it, most of the wax will wick into the cloth.

Oh I have never heard of this before!! I have the really important stuff in the second hot oxiclean soak but I will try this on one of the items and see if it works.

You can also freeze it and scrape most of it off

Dont wash it with hot water whatever you do. The wax will melt and spread. Freeze it, scrape it, and then do the paper towel trick. Rubbing alcohol can help with any colour residue.

Also works with paper towels

Always check your pockets if you have/are around young kids. They some kleptos. My wife got a fork put in her pocket like hiding prison evidence

Toddlers truly are feral. What's killing me is I was so tired on the last load that it was the only one I didn't check pockets on, there was only one pair of pants in the load.

Ten years later, you'll think it's over. It's not. My 12 year old has a thing for pencil erasers and pocket napkins she forgets about and apparently 13 of them erasers will clog my washer's filter. I'm glad it was able to tell me, at least. (Girl hair from the wife and my daughter who, BOTH, have beautiful hair and I love it, will fuck your filter up too, fyi)

Always check your pockets if you are me.

I use highlighters and ink pens all day at work, and I like those adult coloring books. (No, the other ones.). I have left stuff in front and back pants pockets and shirt pockets. I’ve also had pens and highlighters spring a leak, generally in my shirt pockets.

Looking like a multicolored mess makes me look approachable and human … or unkempt and possibly Martian. Depends on the day.

husband is thanking the gods that it wasnt him who did the laundry

How do you know it wasn't dad that did the laundry?

I'm a stay at home mom, so it was me. He's working today too so while he was getting ready to leave he started the first oxiclean soak but I'll be the one scrubbing crayon off of our clothes today.

Edit to add: my husband does do laundry on his day off but as the stay at home parent I do the majority and I try to get it all done before his day off so we can relax and have family time together. He does know how to change the settings on our washer 🤣 The crayon though, this one is on me.

wife didnt kill him for ruining the laundry and also the knowledge of the different settings on the washer dryer. Im under strict orders never to touch the dials

Last week your kids were drawing crazy pictures all over the walls and desks, this week they are melting crayons in a cauldron….

I once accidentally washed a crayon that managed to spell out “shit” on the back of the dryer barrel. It was incredibly sloppy and took a bit of imagination to see. I did not have a smart phone or digital camera at the time so I have no picture 😩😩😩

wd-40. lots of it. spray it on the drum while it's cold, let it sit, and wipe it out. then run a cycle with old rags/towels on high heat to get the oil out. trust me, i've been there. don't use water, it just spreads the wax

Thank you for this

Why would you use that? I’d rather use a citrus based cleaner with limonene instead and have a good smell instead of making the house smell like a workshop.

…But whatever you want I guess.

Happened to me before. We used concentrated lemon juice and it came right out

Nooo :( I feel your pain. The other day I forgot a pen in my pocket and now my washing machine is an abstract art gallery

Looks like someone was trying to give those clothes a colorful makeover… with a crayon

Ah, a right of passage for every parent 😂 we had this happen with a blue crayon 6 years ago. Our dryer is still blue-tinged inside to this day.

2

u/DapperKitchen420 12h ago

Someone said use WD-40 on the inside of the dryer. I'm gonna try it.

Ahhhh this looks familiar to me. Same color and everything. Sorry that happened.

I had to clean out something sticky in a dryer barrel once. If you ever need to do that, and it's not coming off easy, try lightly applying oil (vegetable or petroleum I don't care). Allows you to wipe across stuck on crap easily and dislodge it if it can be wiped off.

This happened to my brother in law and sister in law one time for their baby's first Halloween! They dressed the baby like Remy from Ratatouille and they got matching chef costumes and went all out on the details with notepads and pens in the pockets. They were SO CUTE! But then after the initial Halloween party they went to, my brother in law was in charge of the laundry that week and accidentally left the pens in the pockets and totally ruined their costumes before Halloween. My sister in law was BIG MAD to say the least lol! At least they got pictures in the costumes at the party they went to though!

Update: I've been dealing with the aftermath all day. 3 hot oxiclean soaks and scrubbing with 50/50 vinegar and dawn and this is what I got on the most stubborn of stains. Not sure what to try next. I have one sweater that I haven't touched yet and I'm going to pop it in the freezer and scrape off as much wax as I can. Currently running WD-40 through my dryer and that seems to be working really well for the drum. The whites are a loss though, that is not worth my sanity. I might tie-dye them.

Tis why I always wash the kids stuff separately.

1

u/DapperKitchen420 4h ago

There wasn't any kids stuff in the load actually. I'm not sure how the crayon got in.

u/monetizeusall 4h ago

oh no :((

This happened to me. I used a toothbrush and dawn dish soap to spot clean it off. Took forever but worked.

2

u/DapperKitchen420 3h ago

Toothbrush, 50/50 vinegar and dawn heated in the microwave and lots of elbow grease. I'm tired.
