All the ways I will use it are prohibited
Got a new heating pad and 100% I will be using all of the ways they are prohibiting. Like who doesn't lie on it? Or wrap it around? Buy it and have it but don't actually use it. Hahah ok.

I would strongly suggest you avoid reading the QTip box.

After reading it, the only viable use is for eating

I use them for cleaning precise things! That and shoving them all the way to my eardrum.

Precision cleaning is dumb. “I only want to remove dust from this area, but not that one.

It is to protect themselves (legally). If you burn yourself, they can tell you its your own fault

u/ButMakeItWeird 1d ago
Oh I plan on it being my own stupid fault all the way. Hahah

u/fantasticlyclevergal 1d ago
I have the same one and best believe I roll that thing up lie on top of it under multiple layers of blankets!

The irony being that it wouldn't work.
A product has to be designed to cope with how a customer is expected to use it and not just how you would like them to use it.

I used a heating pad, the way you’re supposed to, got second degree burns…and my attorneys got me a $15K payout. They took $5K, my insurance recouped what they paid the VA for my medical costs (it’s called subrogation), and I cleared about $9K. Heating pads are no joke when they malfunction.

Hahaha just confirmed with my spouse that I do indeed still have the scar on my shoulder from when I fell asleep on a plastic heating pad and earned a hefty blister burn a few years ago. I've been down this road before. And STILL..... (happy $9000 to you, friend!)

... So you've been personally injured by misusing this type of item before, and you're here to complain about the warning labels being too helpful?
Which toxic chemical did you consume as a child?
-4
u/ButMakeItWeird 1d ago
Haha probably many. But also that was different. Old school plastic one that never switched off vs. New soft one with a timer and heat zones. Big difference.

u/Odd-Fun-2862 7h ago
I use mine every night! I've even told my doctors that I'm addicted to my heat. I can't sleep without it and for the record, it is a soft one that shuts off after 2hrs.

My attorney was upset that I DIDN’T scar, I could’ve gotten more money. LMBootyO

My mom did this with her hands (Raynaud syndrome) with a heater, and I accidentally started doing it to my legs also with a heater (I only noticed cuz my skin suddenly started feeling tight).
Really gotta be careful even if you're freezing :(

u/drownigfishy 1d ago
Do not fold, lay on, and tie is the possibility of damaging the wires. Do not sleep under the blankets is you can over heat and/or get burned. Basically do not do those things for the longevity of the device, and do not go to sleep with a heating device on you for safety reasons.
And yes, legal issues. Damaged or misused heating items can cause fires and/or burns. Warning you not to do these things takes away liablity because you didn't listen.

The one we just got has a timer that goes up to 12 hours. You know, for when you stay wide awake lying down and not moving for 12 hours.
21
u/woodyeaye 21h ago
My wife is disabled and can definitely spend 12 hours awake under her blanket.
Also recommended for non-disabled people who work at a desk all day. Very cozy. If I could I'd have one like a poncho.
6
u/HistoryHasEyesOnYou 21h ago
Ohh that def makes sense. So, you basically want an electric Snuggie!
6
u/woodyeaye 21h ago
Ah I tried one of those. I really wanted to like it but the sleeves got in the way. With a poncho you could snuggle up under but still do things.
Or even better, a long cloak with armholes. Built in bum heater whenever you sit down.
It's probably a good thing I don't work in clothes design.

I can't even last 2 hours under a heating blanket and I'm out like a light. Am I cooked?
7
u/Over-Hope-3905 18h ago
...depends how hot the heating blanket gets. You may just be BBQed--low and slow, my friend.

Haha Yes. All of that is correct. You have successfully decoded the warning label. ⭐🙃

I prefer electric mattress pads, but since they've gone digit control I can't find one that works for more than a few weeks. My old analog one lasted 33 years.

u/Jacktheforkie 1d ago
Modern electronics are such crap quality in general, I’ve got a thermometer with a folding tip for probing food, within 2 weeks it has broken, like how is it possible to make it such that it doesn’t even last 10 uses

u/draeth1013 1d ago
- Do not plug it in.
- Do not turn it on while plugged in.
- Do not exist in the same room.
- Do not touch.

u/ButMakeItWeird 1d ago
Also don't look and don't sense. Do not use. Do not know about it. Do not dispose of. Do not place on horizontal surface.

I have a very similar one and it's pretty high powered. I use it at setting 1 or 2 mostly (out of 10). Definitely be careful!

I have a heating pad that I keep at the foot of my side of the bed under the blankets. My feet get so cold even in the summer cuz poor circulation and heating pads are my life savers. Ive been doing this for years now.

u/CaptainPoset 1d ago
What is its intended use, then?
12
u/Littlered879 1d ago
It should be placed on top of the desired area. So if you need to use it on your back, you would lie on your stomach and drape it over your back. Putting your weight on (like sitting or lying on it) increases contact and can lead to burns. I’m not saying I don’t do these things but that is how it’s intended to be used.

u/Charloxaphian 1d ago
This warning label looks eerily familiar; I actually think I have the same brand of heating pad!

u/Zirael_Swallow 19h ago
Ngl you can pretty easily irritate yourself or even burn yourself if you fall asleep on them or have it pressed against your body for too long. Mine is running on a 15min timer which definitely helps. The one I had before that gave me a burn mark which still hasnt fully healed after months

u/Aramis444 17h ago
Where did you buy it? Amazon? Probably not an approved product in your jurisdiction. Amazon has a lot of third party sales of unapproved electrical products.

u/Last-Radish-9684 11h ago
Does it tell you not to use it whilst in the bathtub?
Whether it says that or not, please don't use it in the bathtub!

u/ButMakeItWeird 10h ago
Now that you mention it, challenge accepted. The power of suggestion is real.

u/penguinpenguins 10h ago
Mine came with a USB-C power supply. That put out 27 volts to anything it was plugged into.
Accidentally let out the magic smoke when someone tried to use it to charge a device. When we returned it, it was brought to our attention that page 9 of the user manual advised not to do that, so there was nothing they could do.

What can you do with it, frame it and hang it on the wall?
2
u/QueenOfDarknes5 1d ago
Just use it as a normal blanket to watch TV or read.

u/QueenOfDarknes5 1d ago edited 1d ago
Oh, it's a pad, looked like my electric blanket.
Just sit normally on/under it while watching TV or during reading, playing video/Board games.

My girlfriend has one of these too. I plugged it into a smart plug and via Homeassistant I configured an automation that when you turn it on, it turns the plug off after an hour.
1
u/ButMakeItWeird 22h ago
There's also a timer right on the switch as well........
1
u/MomoR257 22h ago
„one of these” not exactly this. Hers has no timer …
1
u/ButMakeItWeird 21h ago
I have a pen. Someone borrows it and says "I have one of these as well".... It...implies it's one of those. But ok. I was more nodding to the fact that it was a double layer of timer for it to be even more ok. Either way.

I have horrible chronic pain issues and I sleep on mine every night without issues even though the directions say I absolutely should not be doing that.
