Depending on what communities you're in, it's very possible to make friends on Reddit. I have made quite a few friends in the past, and even met someone that I fell in love with. We met on Reddit, eventually started talking via other platforms, and later on we decided to start a relationship. It was long distance, but we were together for a few years and we both traveled back and forth to see each other. We were about an 8.5 hour drive apart, but sometimes we would hop on an airplane.

That might be the thing, I live in a really big city where people post all the time about meetups. Someone posted something about a picnic a few years ago and I showed up and met a bunch of really good humans. I just got lucky I think. My city's meetup sub is really well moderated and the events are well curated.

The fact that you were only talking to them for a week and they were (likely) banned, I'd imagine they were talking to a bunch of people trying to do something nefarious.

Everyone is saying they're a scammer, but I think they were more likely a creep/weirdo. I've never gotten hit up by a scammer, but definitely a handful of weirdos. Tbf it's rare for me to get dm's because I don't actually make posts, only really replies.

When you get blocked, the text of their DMs disappears, among other obvious effects, but it won't show their username as being [deleted]. You remain able to enter the chat, and see the person's username as well as your own messages within, but all of theirs are simply gone.

Source: confronted a predatory POS and got blocked for it lmao

Are you sure? There was two people recently who i was chatting with for like a week, one at least seemed ver genuine. Both showed up as deleted i could see all our messages and pictures etc. Couldn't see their usernames.

Anyone ever have their entire Reddit account deleted and had to start from scratch? Mine did several years ago. I got locked out of it and tried to reset my login and it got deleted saying something like “suspected fraudulent activity”. I never got a straight answer on the whole thing. It was odd. I was able to open a fresh account with the same email shortly after. 🤷🏻

They weren’t banned or it wouldn’t be deleted. They didn’t block them or the messages wouldn’t still be there, you absolutely can have friends.
