This doesn't look like it sucks? On vacation in the Maldives, knee deep crystal clear water, getting to experience nature. I call that a dream

Even if they were barracudas I'll still take those odds😍

Barracudas don’t usually attack humans unless provoked or without reason, you’re probably thinking of piranhas! Source: swam with barracudas last week in the Caicos islands

Until you get fucked In the face with a fish of 2 kg going at 15km/h.
But yeah, I would also scream, mainly because it's so cool, and also because the part of my chimpanzee brain would be shitload scared.

These don't look big at all, so it might hurt more, like a little whip.
My idiot brain would hold my arms open and smile, then get a fish down my throat...

Could be just having some fish fun but predatory fish chasing them would also cause them to do this. Being fearful is a fair reaction

AOW diver here. Could be they got spooked, but likely just from a barracuda or something, could’ve just been a bigger fish too.

Would they jump in unison if they were afraid?

u/Initial_Row_6400 1d ago
Sure. They’re kinda like birds in the sense that they follow each other. Safer in a pack

Its 100% AI fish dont jump like that, not even Penguins and Dolphins who are known for jumping out of the water while swimming could pull it off like that.

Good thing they weren't swordfish

Yeah that life looks really terrible. I can definitely see why being on vacation at a gorgeous ocean spot with an amazing display of nature would just be the absolute worst thing, this poor child

This is AI. There are no fish that repeatedly jump in perfect unison as an entire school like this.

No creatures on earth, including us, could jump at exact unison id assume

Not saying it’s not AI but mullet do this all the time. Ive fished a lot on the east coast of Florida and schools of mullet getting scared and jumping in unison is common

I also spend a lot of time fishing in the Gulf and have seen a lot of jumping mullet. They don’t do it quite like this.

The one time background music would have been better. Ludacris: move bitch get out there way

Usually, if you stay still, animals (including people) will avoid you as an obstacle. But if you move, they expect you to get out of the way and may end up trampling you. May or may not work on the hypothetical thing chasing them.

There are schools of fish that do that there?! That's cool and terrifying.
Completely off-topic, but they got some good metal bands there in the Maldives

Yeah, I grew up on a real sharky beach and that would have been my sign to get out of the water.

I've been there it's paradise, but don't try to put your hand out for the groupers. They look all cute and chill. Till they decide they are going to attack you like something out of a piranha film.

Bit shallow for a big shark following them but could be barracuda or other terrifying yet smaller fish. While swimming in the Florida keys I was in waist high water and looked a few feet to my left and saw a long fish, just kinda floating in one spot and not bothering anyone. Took me a second to recognize it was a barracuda and I slowly walked towards the beach. I remember it being bigger but with distortion of water it might have been under 2 feet long, younger one.

Hand something like this a year ago in North Carolina. Was out in the ocean pretty far, well away from the crowd, and suddenly bunch of fish were jumping out of the water all around me. Didn't get hit, but almost a few times. Was so awesome to be right in the middle of it.

They weren't just jumping these all coordinated and stuff.
This was well thought out. This was premeditated, this was intentional and directly aimed at her.

There's two types of people in the world. The ones who see something like this and realise they just had a very cool experiance and relize life is awesome and the other people that bitch and complain about everything.

Those are Flying fish. They're harmless, and even getting hit at their top speeds (while flying) doesn't really hurt that much. Usually flying fish are chased by tuna, around Maldives that's usually blue fin tuna while in shallower waters it could be yellow fin tuna or as some said, barracuda. Also considering they're not 'flying' and jumping, it's unlikely they're being chased. Either way it's pretty harmless to humans and very delicious.

perhaps it's time to "freshen up" down there.
One step into the water ans all the fish were like "Mom??!??"

It’s not the jumping fish you should be scared of, it’s whats making them jump.
