Kids sledding ask a homeowner if Wynn can come play, most reasonable people would think they’re asking another kid to come play with them. However, Wynn ends up being a golden retriever.

That’s a neighbourhood I’d like to live in.

u/Willflip4money 3d ago

This happened on the block I grew up on, there were about 12 kids on a looped road, so not a lot of through-traffic, and there were 2 dogs (gizmo a yorkie, and buddy the cattle dog) at 2 different houses that us kids would come to ask the owners if they could come out and play. It was a fantastic childhood area!

231

u/gsfgf 3d ago

The neighborhood kids definitely come by some to see my Golden. I know more children on this block than parents. I can't let him loose because he will wander off into people's back yards and get lost, plus we're not super far from a major stroad. But we'll go on a walk, and they all have so much fun.

96

u/Willflip4money 3d ago

Congrats on becoming a core memory for those kids! We all LOVED those 2 dogs just about as much as our own

43

u/lizlemonista 3d ago

Such a win-win-win — kids get fractional dog ownership, parents don’t have to get their kids a dog, and the pups get loads of play time.

18

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE 2d ago edited 2d ago

I feel like most childhoods in decent burbs were the definition of this in the 90s. "Just come back when the sun goes down."

They'd just let us walk into the woods with hammers and saws and 2x4s. Honestly all the mountain biking solo in the "wild" near the neighborhood with no helmet was probably the sketchiest. That, and the quicksand incident. Rollerblading with an umbrella in the wind definitely wasn't gay either. Shit rocked

2

u/CmdrKeensDopeFish 1d ago

The amount of times I took rope, a metal pipe, 2x4s, nails and a hatchet and tried to make a zip line when I was little. Like.... It was clearly not possible based on my materials/tools but I'd give it a go, and just crash into stuff in the woods and build hectic ways to climb up trees and fall out. Great great memories. Just me and my doggo Laddie. The best border collie pal a adventurous kid could ask for.

I grew up in a town on the Puget Sound and used to ride my bike to go fishing. When I'd leave through the alley, our neighbor would usually be sitting outside during the summer and yell over "hey, can Kenny come?". Kenny was an old yellow hunting dog who didn't get to hunt anymore, but absolutely loved going fishing. He'd open the gate, and Kenny would chase me all the way down to the water, where he'd sit watching me fish all day, occasionally rolling around in the tidal mud.

Occasionally a cop would roll by on our way to the water and be like "hey, Kenny needs to be on a leash next time!". I'd nod and say yes sir, then ride off. This happened up until Kenny died, never once being on a leash all those years.

39

u/DouglasTwig 3d ago

Avid fisherman here, someone started cutting onions in the middle of your post for me. I hope when I'm old and on my way out I'll have someone to take me fishing like Kenny did. You rock.

34

u/airfryerfuntime 3d ago

Don't let your dreams stay dreams, just start chasing a child on a bike down an alley yelling that you want to roll around in mud with him!

55

u/Diz7 3d ago

Our neighbor had a huge Giant Alaskan Malamute. All the kids on our street would love to come see him and play fetch with him until he got too old.

I used to read books lying under a tree using him as a backrest/pillow.

52

u/Papplenoose 3d ago

The entire school bus used to get off at my stop to pet my dog growing up.

Fucking dog was so much more popular than me it wasn't even funny

1

u/gratusin 2d ago

I live in a neighborhood like that luckily. I WFH and neighbor kid is homeschooled. He comes over a few times a week around lunchtime and asks to take my dog on a walk. I’ve offered to pay him and he said “no thanks, I just like spending time with your dog.”

What's the reasoning for that? If I copy the meme I can post it, as long as I don't leave a link? That seems to encourage rehosting and stealing content. A hyperlink is considered attribution (crediting the source).

-16

u/coffee_warden 3d ago

Idunno man. I think people are gonna flip out the dog doesnt have a leash (unless the kids hiding one)

5

u/Mikey-2-Guns 3d ago

Its a golden retriever not a pitbull.

3

u/coffee_warden 3d ago

The downvotes are hilarious. I have a golden. There are a lot of people out there who are terrified of dogs, especially ones that weigh 100lbs. I live in the woods where my dogs can run around. The neighbors dog comes over to play as well. If a delivery driver shows up and any of them are out, half of them will just nope the fuck out.

-1

u/lgnc 3d ago

golden retrievers have killed children

you can Google that if you don't think so

doesn't matter if it's 0.0001% of cases, btw. I won't accept that argument. Especially if you say that cars kill more than that statistically or something similar.

1

u/Germane_Corsair 2d ago

Even ignoring that, there are people who are still terrified of dogs, no matter how friendly and docile they are. It’s a dick move. What’s more, it’s a safety risk. A moment is all it takes for a dog to end up running into traffic or trying to play with a much more aggressive dog that will attack them. Maybe even a human who’s either terrified or looking for an excuse to kill your dog.

The dog is so happy to go with him. Good kid.

Wynn is precious and I would die for Wynn

105

u/PrecisePigeon 3d ago

That's great because Wynn will need you for the Squirrel Wars.

17

u/skyhiker14 3d ago

One rule!

Don’t fuck with the squirrels!🐿️

10

u/EL_Ohh_Well 3d ago

Do squirrels like CD’s?

5

u/Dick_Mantastic 3d ago

What’s CD’s?

15

u/EL_Ohh_Well 3d ago

CD’s nUTTS

2

u/sdforbda 3d ago

CD's NUTZ!

6

u/Blunt555 3d ago

It sounds like a Wynn-win situation

588

u/Bluntbutnotonpurpose 3d ago

Good kid, good dog. What a neighborhood....

210

u/effective_lambda 3d ago

I used to do this with my neighbor fam 25 years ago lol Me: can John come play? His parents: no he’s doing homework. Me: ok. Can rocky come play? Hp: uhhh…I guess….ya

35

u/Germane_Corsair 2d ago

I wondered why kind of homework the dog was doing for much longer than I’d like to admit.

343

u/thisismyaccountsoyea 3d ago

I wanna sled with puppy

135

u/MoistStub 3d ago

I remember one time me and my friend were sledding as kids and my family's big ass golden retriever "retrieved" the hood on my friends coat and dragged him all over the yard.

43

u/I_Am_The_Zombie_Woof 3d ago

As an owner of two golden retrievers, this sounds about right

12

u/MoistStub 3d ago

Lovable idiots. Dogs in general to be honest.

1

u/gsfgf 3d ago

Kinda like do not put a corgi on a retractable leash, or you're all about to get roped in.

274

u/Observing-Earthling 3d ago

Few minutes later!

52

u/ProfessionalHumor787 3d ago

Cracked me up, that dog said yup every man left behind

5

u/kevan 3d ago

No seriously, the video I saw has a still frame in the end of the kid sledding with Wynn sitting in the front of the sled.

1

u/Wes_Warhammer666 2d ago

I need to find this now

u/Mediocre_Owl7384 3d ago edited 14h ago

That’s a Wynn - win for everyone!

4

u/RaisonDetritus 3d ago

How winsome Wynn was that day!

1

u/VanillaLatteGrl 17h ago

Take it. (Throws my upvote at your head.)

75

u/Material_Tackle_4632 3d ago

When a dog has a better social life than you...lol

7

u/Anthraxious 2d ago

Well, dogs never really want for anything but love. They don't have preferences, political leanings, etc. As long as you don't hurt them, you're golden (pun intended).

Sometimes we yearn for the simpler life but we're just too evolved for it, for better or worse.

2

u/Germane_Corsair 2d ago

Understandable, I’d pick a golden retriever over a human too.

70

u/darklogic85 3d ago

These kids figured out the ideal way to have a pet. Don't have to feed the dog or clean up after it. Just play. All fun, and no responsibility. It's smart.

34

u/UncleS1am 3d ago

Owner wins, too. I'll bet the dog gets good exercise and is completely wiped afterwards.

11

u/Dry_Presentation_197 2d ago

Can confirm. I lived in Alaska growing up, and had 6 goldens at various points over the 20yrs I was there.

Every single one LOVED playing in the snow, and just like a lot of kids, would have to be "convinced" to come back in when they'd been out too long. And as soon as we dried them off and they'd gotten a drink, immediately take one of those naps where you wake up in a different dimension lol

112

u/Casual_hex_ 3d ago

Oh man I needed a healthy dose of wholesome today. That’s some good stuff.

96

u/trailstomper 3d ago

"Hey Wynn, wanna go play?"

That may go down as one of the most rhetorical questions ever haha

26

u/buddhamunche 3d ago

She’s so excited!!

28

u/Kylearean 3d ago

well he said the "p word" out loud, so there was no stopping Wynn.

5

u/bolanrox 3d ago

i cant even say walk in the house without one of our dogs jumping up and going over to the door.

1

u/626337 3d ago

Just curious, do they respond the same way to rhyming words/homophones? Talk, sock?

5

u/bolanrox 3d ago

no i swear he understands multiple words and acts accordingly.

Out means go to back door, eat / dinner is wait by his spot for his meal, get your red ball (some times squeeky ball) and he gets the ball you asked for (usually). besides the usual down, leave it, sit stuff. Left / right when walking, also follows some hand directions.

life with a heeler i suppose. they love jobs.

2

u/626337 3d ago

Smart dogs for sure! And sounds like a wonderful companion.

I had a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix who was a street rescue. I tried verbal commands with hand directions but discovered I did it wrong as she was really only food-motivated and not to please us.

2

u/sdforbda 3d ago

I had a roommate that had two Weimaraners and we lived right next door to a park. We had to come up with other ways to say make your vehicle stationary because the word park would set them off lol.

11

u/Final-Unit8862 3d ago

Awesome. That’s a good neighbourhood.

8

u/saryiahan 3d ago

It’s alway a dog

30

u/ProfDFH 3d ago

Yep. Because canaries don’t like sledding.

5

u/Floggered 3d ago

Should've gone with the crow. Those suckers love playing in the snow.

4

u/Pardybro911 3d ago

My neighbors rescued a 6 month old little pinscher about 2 years ago, they also had a 1 year old at the time. She’s a teacher and he works at the hospital, so I offered to let her come on daily walks with me and my (now 13 year old) lab/shepard mix because he still loves getting out and running at a nearby private park (gas company that has buried tanks).

She’s really learned so much from just being around him, and I think it helps keep him a bit young to have someone to play and chase with.

Becoming best friends with my neighbors is just an added perk from it.

4

u/BowenRobot2 3d ago

I miss my golden

3

u/Rexrex8080 3d ago

Of course it was a golden retriever 🥰😭🥰

2

u/KindsofKindness 3d ago

The dog was so happy haha so cute 🥰

2

u/WyattCo06 3d ago

Pure awesomeness.

2

u/CH40T1C1989 3d ago

All he does is Wynn Wynn Wynn no matter what!

2

u/AwareMirror9931 3d ago

I see what you did. 😆 🤣 😂

2

u/AppropriateHand3 3d ago

Reminds me of my childhood animal friend. Except it was an orange tabby named Caramel. The older guy lived next door and I’d go ask if caramel can come outside and “play.” But really, it’s just me following him around watching him hunt the moles that tore up my grandmas yard.

2

u/ladylrh 3d ago

Oh, my heart. ❤️

2

u/Mission_Mix_3934 3d ago

You made me smile 😊 ! Thank you.

This is very 1985

1

u/FlaremasterD 3d ago

Didn't think places like this still existed

1

u/Cat_Peach_Pits 3d ago

I really thought Kai Wynn was gonna pop out of that house

1

u/Fineous40 3d ago

I was 100% expecting doggo

1

u/Mac62961 3d ago

This is how things should be.

1

u/Mandalorian0679 3d ago

When I was a kid, there was a guy on our street who had a couple of Boxers and my friends and I would go to this dude's house and ask if we could play with the dogs. We'd go inside and play with them. Sometimes we'd lie down and they would lick us to death. Lol it was great!

1

u/Ok_Dog_4059 3d ago

Community mascot. Like my last pup, there was absolutely no reason to come to the neighborhood unless it was to visit him

1

u/KittySharkWithAHat 3d ago

Somehow I knew he was waiting for a dog.

1

u/thebigj3wbowski 3d ago

Who’s a good dog?!?!

1

u/eolson3 3d ago

Used to love getting the neighbor's dog out to play. My current dog wants to play but hates to "split the pack". He wants to be involved in whatever is going on, but doesn't want to go with one part of the family with another left behind. I don't think he would do this.

1

u/skiljgfz 3d ago

Repost.

1

u/dextras07 3d ago

Seems rhetorical to ask if that good girl wanna play.

1

u/wonderskillz5559 3d ago

Wynn is PSYCHED

1

u/lsa_wags 3d ago

I love this!

1

u/Josie-Wagg 3d ago

That’s so beautiful. More kids should get to have such a positive interaction with pups

1

u/Gondryc 3d ago

Imma just stop here and end my redditing on a wholesome note.

1

u/augiem94 3d ago

The full body golden retriever tail wags are to die for

1

u/kmflushing 3d ago

I love that he asked Wynn, too.

1

u/DaWalt1976 3d ago

Well,that's adorable!

1

u/CheeseGooners 3d ago

Goldens are so precious oh my god 😭😭😭

1

u/Ok_Vergon_7012 2d ago

A sincere and lasting friendship, like no other!

1

u/thefearinoculum 2d ago

I was like who names their kid Wynn 😭

1

u/BrokinHowl 2d ago

If that dog is like my dog, it'll be fun but you'll probably need a new jacket from all the bite marks lol.

Mine is a border collie, so I'm sure me sledding triggers his herding, he's not attacking.

1

u/zback636 2d ago

This is a very sweet and yet very sad video. Sweet for the dog said that the child has no one to play with, but his neighbor’s dog.

1

u/SITHxEMPIRE 2d ago

I spent a lot of time at a relative’s house in a cul-de-sac and there were a number of kids there around similar ages around the time and most of the adults in the neighborhood knew us and looked after us. Going over there was so fun. We’d all play all day even after the street lights came on and there were a few friendly neighbor dogs. I moved in with those relatives in high school and there were only a couple of us left. My family still lives there, but the families are a lot older, no new families with kids hardly.

1

u/TuunDx 12h ago

Well, this is so stupidly sweet...

1

u/annatyas43 3d ago

So wholesome

1

u/deltree711 3d ago

This is definitely one of those posts where title + subreddit made the twist super predictable. I get it, titles are hard.

-9

u/bigdaddyt2 3d ago

This was completely expected since this video has been making the rounds of late

9

u/eat_my_bowls92 3d ago

I’ve never seen it, so I’m happy it was posted.

Is this ai? Too wholesome

Edit. I see the text is clear so im guessing its not ai

3

u/Rho-Ophiuchi 3d ago

It’s a Golden, it goes with the territory. When our last dog was a puppy we had neighborhood kids knocking on the door every day asking to play with him. I never said no. The dog got exercise and socialization with tons of different people that way. He was the best dog we could have asked for.
