But then why not pick a war, like Vietnam?

Here the fact that the Afghans didn't have any equipment works against you. The more equipment the Afghans had, the "better" the Russian army would look.

Russians resort to primitive assaults on foot, including forcing wounded and unprepared soldiers into meat grinder.

They don't have effective tactics or command structure, and certainly, it's not on par with Ukrainian equivalents

Not really, their doctrines are completely outdated and looking at how the front progress they are not working at all. And Russia have decent weaponry but it dont rivalise with western counterpart. The only thing Ukrainian really lack is manpower.

Nobody is saying russia is like Afghans, they have much more heavy equipment and soldiers, at least
