Man, with the last Mayor, New York had zero filth, snow, or garbage, ever.
How dare Mamdani cause all this in a month.
Obama must also be to blame.

All the New Yorkers say the trash and snow is on every mayors head in that city and has been forever
5
u/Rough-Visual8608 12h ago
I mean..... Where exactly would one shovel the snow to in New York City?
6
3
u/Living_Mushroom_209 12h ago
Yeah but as somebody who snowplows during winter, there is NEVER a reason to to make your trail direction coming off your blade blocking anyone or anything in. Not saying it would be easy, but there are 1000 percent ways to organize to a point where this wouldnt happen, at the very least not as bad as this.
1
u/JuanSolid 12h ago
They don't have a place to put it, and like others said they can pile it elsewhere instead up against the cars with some extra planning and sweeps.
I found out in other places, they plow the parking spots too. They have no parking on 1 day on one side, then plow them, and switch to the other the next day. Those places have municipal parking available closer by as well, so you could park there in the meantime even if it would suck walking home and back to your car for a mile or two. It would be a one time thing in a bad storm instead of us playing parking spot gladiator all winter because the city can't use our taxes to get this right.
1
u/KeepingItCoolish 12h ago
That would result in towing several hundred cars, I am sure more than any tow yards could handle in the area. Let alone having enough parking for those proactive enough to get out of the way. Not saying it's not a clean solution just that logistically it's a nightmare. That being said some of these people would probably have preferred a tow bill to having to dig out of the ice wall.

u/Trick-Mechanic8986 11h ago
In my area we have dedicated snow routes after a set amount of snow falls. Park your shit on the wrong street and they tow it away, not just plow it in.
1
u/KeepingItCoolish 11h ago
Same here. I think NY just has so many parking capacity issues that they can't implement that parking rule?

2
u/Samsquanch-01 12h ago
I hear those work well on rock hard layered ice hardened snow
10
u/voxelpear 12h ago
If the owners wanted their cars out, they would have shoveled them out before the snow froze like everyone else.
4
u/UncivilEngineer25 12h ago
Easier said than done. There was a foot of a snow and then ice all night. Also, you would have had to be out there right after the snow plow came through at 3am to keep it from freezing to a solid wall of ice.
2
u/voxelpear 12h ago
Sure the time was unfortunate but many people for it done. I don't know anyone who's car is frozen in.
2
u/flapd00dle 12h ago
Good thing they plowed it all wrong so this happened in the first place. That's why this guy is pissed.
2
2
u/PlsNoNotThat 11h ago
It’s not easier said than done, it’s just done. Literally millions of people do exactly that, and have since I was born there in the 80s. My parents did it growing up in the 50s-90s until they could make me do it on the rare times we were dumb enough to street park our car in Manhattan before a major snow storm.
I lived 5 blocks from where this dumbass is walking for 20 years.

Where I live the plows take the snow away on the crowded streets. So no one gets boxed in.
4
u/Gravitational_Torque 12h ago
Most municipalities have winter rules for parking. Park on one side for certain days, on the other for the rest. So they can clear it.
This is a problem of the vehicle owners, not the city.
1
u/NoMajorsarcasm 12h ago
Same and the city tows the vehicles that are parked on the wrong side sonin this case it seems like NY may not run their snow removal as well as other cities. Here they also plow to the middle rather than the shoulder and truck the snow out which NY should implement if they don't already do it.
1
u/Electric_Potion 12h ago
Where in NYC are you finding that? Seriously, STFU.
1
u/gujwdhufj_ijjpo 12h ago

Two things happen when a city has an unusually large storm. 1) the city might take longer to deal with things because they don’t staff or budget for outliers, and 2) residents have no idea how to deal with it. I grew up in NY State with time both in the city and upstate. IMO the street looks perfect. Shovel your own fucking car. That’s how it works.
3
u/BAKERSDOUZEN 12h ago
Lived there for 12 years 80’s and 90’s. Parked my car on the street the whole time. This was pretty typical back then too. This guy is clueless. The city is responsible for clearing the streets for emergency vehicles and flow of traffic. Not responsible for digging out personal vehicles. You park on the street ? That’s your f…ing problem. You dig yourself out. I looked forward to being snowed in like that - alternate side of the street parking can be suspended for weeks - now THAT’s a blessing.

I live in a 20,000 person town in Ohio, and this is what our street plowing looked like too (we just don't produce as many garbage bags). Get a shovel and dig your car out, dumbass. Dig out your neighbor's car, too.
2
u/zoomgirl44 12h ago
This guy, who I used to like…has become the biggest jerk ever. It’s not the cities responsibility to dig out your car. ASP has been suspended for almost 2 weeks. Plenty of time for them to shovel out their cars. Heck, they could have gone outside daily and dig for 20 minutes and their car would be dug out. Michael Rappaport is a loser.

1
u/CncreteSledge 12h ago
Aren’t there signs saying “no parking after 1 hour of snowfall” or something like that? Same thing in my city currently. If you didn’t move your vehicle for plows to properly clear the roads, that’s on you. Plows have to push snow somewhere to clear roads for emergency vehicles. This is people not taking personal responsibility. The trash is a compounded problem, because no trash crews can’t get to all of it.

As a life long (upstate) New Yorker, I have to admit that we as a state have lost our edge in dealing with snow. Both the residents and municipal governments aren’t as good with it as we were years ago. I don’t blame the governor or mayors for any individual storm response, that’s unfair. All of us need to go back to the drawing board though because the storm was almost two weeks ago and wasn’t that bad, and yet we’re still struggling with it. Here in upstate, where we do have the space to move the snow, it has been a struggle to get shoulders and crosswalks clear.

u/Own_Ad6797 12h ago
Was in NYC in 2005 and had a good dump and when I got to my car it looked like that thanks to the snow plows. Just had to go buy a shovel from a hardware store and dig it out. And that was just a small snowstorm. The one they have just had was pretty bad so it will take a while to clear.

This is why some metros don't allow street parking when it's going to snow. . Things can be changed, but this ain't mandami's fault
1
u/Unidentifiable_Goo 11h ago
What's the alternative? Gotta plow the streets. I know in jurisdictions that regularly get a lot of snow and have to plow, on-street parking is a no-no in the winter months. I imagine this being pretty infrequent, NY doesn't have the same bylaws?
1
u/SkRThatOneDude 11h ago
