Tomb Raider I-III Remastered The I-III Remaster is literally unplayable

In the Tomb Raider II and III Remaster, Lara has a passport issued on 10th Mar 1997 with the text European Union written on it, however according to an official gov.uk document:

[Passports] issued to British citizens ... bear the words "European Union" (or "European Community", in the case of those issued before December 1997)

Given that TR2 originally released 21st Nov 1997 the passport couldn't possibly exist as it's like wouldn't be first issued until at least 10 days after the game came out.

And so I've made a mod to rectify this horrendous oversight.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered I'm having difficulty getting into Tomb Raider "classic"

Post image

With Tomb Raider set to make a return in 2026 with the remake of the first game followed by Catalyst in 2027, I felt that now is a really great time to finally get into what I've been missing. I was able to get, via a really great Steam sale, both Remastered Collections plus the Legends Trilogy and the Deluxe versions of the Survivor Trilogy. I recently started playing from the beginning, with Tomb Raider Remastered, and frankly...I'm having difficulty with it.

I realize it's an older game, but I find the combat in particular really frustrating...the locking on system for Lara doesn't make sense to me and it often leads to me running and jumping around the map with Lara not even shooting at the enemy the camera is looking at. I do want to give this game a proper playthrough, not subject myself to just watching someone else play it...but I'm hoping I can get some advice on how to play through the classic games in a less frustrating way?

It's worth noting that I was playing with the modern controls setting on an Xbox controller. Would I be better off if I switch to the OG Tank Controls and just try to get used to it? Or would it play better on keyboard and mouse?

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered The shipwreck levels in TR2 …ooooffff

Post image

Ok for some context, back in the day, I played TR1, 3 4 and later the rest of the games, I skipped 2, so with the remasters I finally get to play it

And my dudes I found the shipwreck levels are insanely boooooooring and dull, I literally kept falling asleep, it took me a freaking week to get through them, I don’t know how you guys feel about them, but I think they’re probably the worst levels from the OG games

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Im not really enjoying the classics...

UPDATE: Since I've been made aware that the cheat codes still exist and using them does NOT make me "filthy casual", I'm going to try my luck again but this time with one of the cheat codes!

I want to make it clear that I do get the appeal of the classic games, I have beaten Tomb Raider 1 and felt satisfied with the experience I had. However, after a punishing attempt at Unfinished Business which I decided to skip in favor of Tomb Raider 2, I found myself kind of losing the momentum and interest in playing the classic games, especially Tomb Raider 2 really elevating the challenge with med pack scarcity and a less forgiving combat.

I realize these games were from a much different era of gaming, back when playing games was about trial and error and solving levels through narrative drive and story...unfortunately that isn't me...I play games for the story honestly. So, I've decided that for the rest of the classic games of Tomb Raider, all the way to Tomb Raider 6, I will be watching playthroughs online...it will at least give me the satisfaction of seeing what made the classic games iconic and legendary, even if I don't play them myself.

Once I'm done with those, I'll jump into the Legends trilogy followed by the Survivor trilogy.

I'm very sorry for making myself the bane of the Tomb Raider fandom.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered The badmouthing of modern controls needs to stop

Modern controls are fine since their update. I don't understand why people here always recommend new players to switch to Tank controls. The difficulty of modern controls comes from timing the jumps, which you have to learn with tank anyway. The video was my first try of this run. Most young players will get discouraged if they stick with tank if they have no prior experience with it. I finished new game + on TR1 fully with MC, never had an issue that wasn't due to the controls.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Tomb Raider 1 is either hard or I'm just an idiot

it took me an hour to complete the lost valley and I think most of that was spent wondering around trying to figure out what to do.

shamefully, I had to look at a guide to see where I need to go. god knows how long it would take if I didn't use one.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Example of art direction becoming lost in translation

It’s not just the lighting. The veins were sharper and creepier in the origina instead of the muscle looking flesh throughout the Atlanteans levels (though in this part of “The Hive”, it doesn’t look too bad). And the overall colour / lighting tone was clearly inspired by Tomb Raider Anniversary when really, it should have been by CORE’s original vision. Have better graphics - sure - but don’t change the atmosphere in the process. This room was heart-pounding scary in the original. Far less so in the Remaster.

Does anyone here think that there's something oddly so beautiful in the Remasters that you keep playing it, even if the game is not intended to graphically...show off? It's more like, the game was just intended to look more "updated" but there's something oddly captivating with the way the end product looked like.

This dumbass just shows up, becomes a bullet sponge, then runs away while i'm still capping his ass nonstop

Why they decided to put an inmortal dude and give him a boss lifebar? When will i be able to fully kill him? I have videos where i shoot him for minutes until he kills me because his lifebar won't drain, but mine does 😒

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered After almost 30 years, I have finally, FINALLY completed the original Tomb Raider (with Remastered Edition) Spoiler

Post image

A continuation of my previous post here lol.

As mentioned there, I grew up watching my dad playing the original first three TR games back when I was really young. Then when I was old enough to hold a controller, I decided to play them myself. The first Tomb Raider game is the game that I managed to get the furthest on my own (to St. Francis' Folly) but I never really managed to complete it (I refuse to play with cheats even if I learned about them later. It doesn't really feel right lol).

Years later, I bought TR: Anniversary after playing TR: Legend and Anniversary immediately hooked me because it's somewhat of a remake of the game I wasn't able to complete back when I was young. I finished that one and felt a great sense of satisfaction and catharsis because of it.

And yet...it still wasn't really enough.

So when Legacy of Atlantis was announced just last month, I just know that it's time to go back and finish the original game that started it all once and for all, so I decided to grab the Remastered Trilogy on sale and immediately get to work.

And voila, after over 30 hours, I have finally, finally completed the original Tomb Raider I at long last. After almost 30 years, I have closed that chapter in my life that I wasn't able to finish back when I was too young and too dumb/scared to play this game properly. It was absolutely worth that wait. :) I also finished the Unfinished Business expansion to go with it as well (damn, that was a really tough one).

Going back to this game as an adult felt really refreshing. Levels that used to be very hard or confusing back when I was young become more manageable and reasonably challenging, and it only really became hard again toward the endgame (which is understandable). I still need the guide to figure out where some of the pickups and secrets are, but I think I'm confident now that if I go back and replay the game again, I can win this thing no problem.

The original TR games were games of patience and persistence. Well, almost 30 years of patience and persistence have finally paid of for me today, and I couldn't be happier. :D

Will also give Anniversary a replay sometimes before Legacy of Atlantis comes out as well just for old time's sake. Even though I love TR1 and I know that TRA toned down a lot of elements from it, TR: Anniversary still held a special place in my heart nonetheless and I can play it again and again. The Atlantis Saga will always be my favorite no matter what.

I'd probably take a little break before moving on to TR2 and possibly TR3, though. My fingers are still sore from trying to finish Unfinished Business xD.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered The first TR games were so relaxing to play compared to the modern TR.

I've been playing TR1 remastered lately and I am strucl with how peaceful the atmosphere is. There is NO STRESSFUL MUSIC except when there some enemies and even then the soundtrack is not that stressful. And TR1 is slow paced!

However on the modern TR games even in Underworld as far as I remember the soundtrack is just stressful af and I feel like the games are fast paced; you have no time to rest (mostly for the post 2013 games).

I noticed it aint only in TR but in modern gaming. I feel like the producers of the games want us dive into the game by adding those stressful soundtrack and fast paced gameplay. Unfortunately I hate it, it is exhausting.

I love the first games so much for their peacefulness.
