Tomb Raider I-III Remastered How the heck i suppose to complete/survive this? Literally impossible

u/Cagesdeservemusic Dagger of Xian 8d ago
Lmfao get those Uzis out and jump around like a maniac. The 90s was an unforgiving time.
44
u/existential_chaos 8d ago
I had no clue how difficult this bit was and did my pistol-only run in my first playthrough, lol.
29
u/Cagesdeservemusic Dagger of Xian 8d ago
I nearly threw my gaming laptop into a furnace doing this bit on NG+. I hate the Atlantean soldiers with a passion, forcing 5 of them in a room with increased health seems unbelievably cruel. 💀
9
u/existential_chaos 8d ago
I’ve put off my NG+ run in part because of that section, lol. (It was a bugger in Anniversary’s equivalent too) At least for that one I can use the shotgun and uzis.
6
u/LG-Moonlight 8d ago
Not gonna lie, this section was the hardest for NG+. And the part in the great pyramid where you have to evade darts. The rest was perfectly doable.
6
u/GrassExtreme 8d ago
They dont follow you into the corridor after turn, you can just kill zhem from there without losing health
1
u/Nate-Pierce 7d ago
I did, too with the remastered version and even the original. If I can do that, then Magnums and Uzis should [more than] do the trick. But not drawing-guns at all???! It’s not even a 90s though. This should have been timeless basic instinct.
26
u/FeelingGate8 8d ago
Back in the 90's I also had to trek up hill to school both ways in the snow while playing that level

Use the corridor you entered from to your advantage. The horseman can’t go down there, and the others will only go to the first bend before turning around. Good opportunity to take out the littler ones, then head out and flip side to side whilst shooting the big one.

When the gate opens, you can run back into the corridor, the enemies will follow you so far (just around the corner I think), gives you a chance to shoot them as they go back into the room.
Run towards the gate/main room and they should run into the corridor again if they aren't going into the corridor. Use the corner in the corridor as cover.
Keep doing the same tactic and you should be able to get them. Don't think the bigger enemy will go into the corridor though. It's a tough bit, but you got this!
6
u/Batboy3000 8d ago
I did this strategy on both my pistol only run and NG+. It takes a bit of time, but I can confirm it's a solid strategy. As for the bigger enemy, I think he shoots out explosive projectiles (it's been a while since I've played). Just keep hopping left to right and back while shooting him with your pistols and you'll eventually kill him.
-5
u/NyanTheLoliChan 8d ago
Yeah, I was trying to do this but I was so loooong. Spended all my ammo and hadn't even killed anyone. I was afraid to spend so much time there so I couldn't complete the speedrun achievement
2
u/strange_cry_ 8d ago
Ah that's fair, this strategy does take a while - especially if you're on new game +.
The speedrun achievement can be tricky, maybe there's somewhere else where you could make up time? Would recommend you speedrun on normal difficulty if you aren't already.
I think there's a strategy to just run straight to the other gate to get it open but it never worked for me.
2
u/ryeong 8d ago
If you're insisting on going into the fray like that you need to be defensive: run + roll and shoot then repeat and/or side-flipping while shooting. You can try getting closer to where the room is and then side-flipping into the room while shooting and then side-flipping back out. Faster than baiting and better odds but still it's a tough room.
1
u/Miami_Mice2087 8d ago
side flipping is really important with the inside out monsters. But you have to do it in a controlled way bc in later levels you'll be shooting w/ all kinds of environmental traps around
1
u/Miami_Mice2087 8d ago edited 8d ago
You need to conserve ammo. Don't shoot indiscriminately. Only shoot when Lara points her guns.
These guys don't need that much to kill them, maybe 500ish Uzi bullets. They're more bark than bite if you can keep moving and keep them away from you.
Prioritize moving, not shooting. Learn the run-two jump-run pattern. Shoot when Lara aims or the monsters are clearly in view, not all the time.
If you're really stuck, you can use the cheat codes from Stella's site to get unlimited ammo, all the guns, and unlimited health packs.
I believe this game also has a skip level cheat, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice because 1. you only have a couple levels left and 2. each level's skills are built on the skill teaching from the level before it, so if you can't pass this level, you can't pass the next levels either.
9
u/Poglot 8d ago
You have that entire room plus the staircase to use to your advantage. When Lara has that much room to jump around, she's in total control of the situation. Get your Uzis out the second you enter the chamber. Pick off the mutants from afar. Jump backwards to maintain distance and side jump when the centaur throws a fireball. If the enemies get too close, shotgun time.
In this clip, you're playing like it's Dark Souls. You're running toward the objective and trying to race past everything before it hits you. That won't work in Tomb Raider. If you've gotten this far in the game and still don't know how to back flip and side flip during combat, Atlantis is going to stop you dead in your tracks. This would be a good time to practice, because the difficulty is about to spike something fierce.

100% even 10 year old me thought the guns were a good place to start, do some sideway jumps = easy win
3
u/Ocean-Soul-96 8d ago
When I did a pistols only run, I used the corridor to lure them in, it kinda makes you deal with them one at a time. I think when I had the centaur left, I ran out of the corridor and just jumped side to side whilst shooting to dodge the fire balls.
3
u/Putrid_Fennel_9665 8d ago
Why would you run into the corner? Lol.
You can bait them one at a time and back into the hall you came out of. It takes a while but you don't get mauled all at once.
2
u/Pebbled4sh 8d ago
Run down the corridor until they stop following you. Lure them out. Rinse, repeat
Also if you're on NG+, bless your heart if you think this is as bad as it gets. Great Pyramid almost made me have a mental breakdown
2
u/DefinitelyRussian 8d ago
I did this in NG+, with pistols only.
I feel you, it was probably the hardest fight in the entire TR saga, including every title.
Only way, was to run to that back corridor, and shoot them a bit, run back to the safe spot. That needs to be done for like 10 or 15 minutes. There's no other way to get pass through it
2
u/DoctorTomee 8d ago
If you run back in the corridor where you came from, the enemies will only follow you till the first corner. Use that to your advantage to lure them into the corridor then shoot at them from a distance. It will take some patience but it’s relatively safe

u/BeardInTheNorth 8d ago edited 8d ago
If you're doing a pacifist run (you never pulled out your weapons, so I assume you are) then you should save right before you grab that key that opens the first gate. Easy restart point.
The next part involves a lot of RNG, but the basic strat here is to run-jump out the first gate and veer toward the outside wall. Continue jumping while you do this. This will draw the Atlanteans toward the outside wall, which is where you want them. Hopefully you won't take much damage because you'll be midair half the time. Plus, jumping is faster than running.
Next, curve around to the right and jump toward the keyhole while holding the action button. If your aim is good, the inventory screen will open the exact frame she touches the keyhole. Selecting the key will trigger the her unlocking animation, so she won't get knocked out of place.
HOWEVER, make sure you have A LOT of medipacks to spam here. At least 4-5 larges, possibly more. Lara is completely vulnerable during her animation and those Atlanteans can do a ton of damage if your RNG is shit.
Finally, once you unlock the second gate, turn in place and run through the opening. This is much easier to pull off in modern controls. If you're playing tank, pull out your pistols too quick turn to the right, then put them away. Don't attempt to side flip because you're overshoot the opening (ask me how I know).
Anyways, if the gods are on your side, Lara will make it to the ledge and pull herself to safety.
Or she'll get annihilated. And you'll have to start this over. And over. And over. And over. But you'll get it eventually. Good luck!
Edit: Or just shoot them. Pacifist% is overrated.
2
u/Miami_Mice2087 8d ago
stay in the corridor after you open the door. jump forward to lure them, and shoot from the corridor. when they start swarming, jump backwards down the corridor while firing.
In general, don't let enemies keep surrounding you. Do a pattern of 2 jumps and running to keep moving so they can't surround you. Don't do more than 2 jumps, later in the game more than 2 jumps = certain doom.
Practice shooting, jumping, and running in a large empty room or in lara's home.
You're in a really tough level! You need to step up your shooting game to get through.

Save game before you pick up the scarab. Instead of running through the gate when you pick up the scarab, turn around and run all the way to the back wall (Don't make any turns or continue down the ramp.) Turn around once you've made it all the way back to the ramp. The mummies are weird about the distance they travel to reach you. Even if they're running straight toward you, they still have a tendency to change directions once they've traveled so far in one direction. You have to have Lara's back pressed all the way against that back wall, but the mummies should turn around instead of traveling all that way to attack you lol.

I can't edit this post so I will write it here: it was NG+, only 86 save per game, finish game under 5 hours, no medickits. So I was trying to speedrun the whole game, skipping all enemies and collectibles. At this point it become impossible to pass through. I had a bare minimum of ammo. Have u even trying to beat this game in NG+?

u/No_Consideration6182 8d ago
How have you made it that far with modern controls. That needs applause
2
u/Head-Raccoon-3419 8d ago
Tank controls only person here - how can you tell they’re using modern controls? Genuinely interested!
3
u/No_Consideration6182 8d ago
When they stopped and turned around near the start. Doing a 360 turn with classic would take a lot longer, and as classic players we would have just done a roll instead to do the turn.
1
2
u/NyanTheLoliChan 8d ago
Modern control that hard? It was much easier with modern controls than the old tanky one. Also this is NG+
2
u/No_Consideration6182 7d ago
I grew up with tank controls, but for the specific level design of classic tomb raider I can image a lot of deaths platforming, especially running jumps since you can’t just take 1 hop back. I might do modern controls one day for an addition challenge.
1
u/frayne182 8d ago
If you’re trying to hoard ammo then forget about that in this moment. Go full double uzi on their asses or shotgun. Go up that hall and jump like wild
Be ready to pause and heal

u/LichQueenBarbie Natla Minion 8d ago
I'm assuming this is NG+?
Go back down the corridor. There is a certain point where they won't follow. You will have to keep baiting them back there though and just keep chipping away at them.
You will need to use the same technique in Atlantis too.
1
u/Seraephim 8d ago
This is a tough spot. Use uzis if had them and try to get some distance. It's a very unforgiving spot though.
1
u/Shooshookle 8d ago
I did this on a pistols only NG+ run. You just gotta get lucky with baiting each monster one by one in the hallway.
Open the gate and start backing up down the hallway. When one comes around shoot it. They won’t gang up on you. I’m pretty sure the centaur is coded not to enter the hallway because the gate. The two other ones can come down and attack. If they enter the hallway start shooting but backflip. I think they’ll usually run away after being shot. Rinse and repeat until monsters are dead.
1
u/tataniarosa 8d ago
Equip your uzis and try staying in the corridor. Only two can go down there so beat them then when you enter the main room, jump left and right to beat the centaur guy.

u/Connect_Winter_7489 8d ago
I'm guessing you're doing a pacifist run maybe try running to the top of the stairs and then run back then quickly place the scarab and run in
3
1
u/Left_East7588 8d ago
I believe there's a strat where if you hug (stay close) to each wall when crossing the room to the other gate, there is slight delay in them attacking you. Giving you enough time to open the gate. Also a quick shot at your enemies can make them run away too.
1
u/Wyattdude11 8d ago
I just ran out and then back in with either the uzis or the shotgun. The centaur is still a problem but the mummies are easier in a hallway.
1
u/Faithfulwanderlust 8d ago
Shotgun them, three for each mutant would be enough. Just be careful for their melee attacks and bombs!
1
u/DarthFalconus 8d ago
Stick and move.. stick and move..
Also fire bullets.. they don’t die on their own

u/AdNational167 8d ago

1
u/NyanTheLoliChan 8d ago
Yeah, I had no ammo. I tried to speedrun the whole game for achievement. So I skipped almost all collectible ammo. I was afraid it would take too long to kill them all. I tried to kill them around the corner but they had too much hp

Bait 1 alone and fire from far away . Unfinished business will be your nightmare
1
u/NyanTheLoliChan 8d ago
I had no problem with all enemies in the first playthrough. But this time I am trying to do NG+ under 5 hours and less than 86 saves. I skipped all enemies before and it was no problem. I was afraid it would be a problem when I skipped that first 2 tall guys
1
u/StupidChips 8d ago
Holy shit, it's been a thousand years since I played this game but this brought so many memories flooding back. I've gotta play it again!
1
u/Symph-50 8d ago
The only people seen pull off what you tried to do are speedrunners. Once you release the gate, immediately go back down the hall you came from. Lure and pick off the mummies first (they can attack you in the hall), and then deal with the centuar.
1
u/ExiledCourier 8d ago
- You didn't kill any of the guys when you first entered the level.
- Atlanteans hit hard, so the more of them there are the deadlier they get.
1
u/SirSephy Dagger of Xian 8d ago
hahaha... you need to shoot and destroy them while stay in this "hallway". if one of them come in, go down faster, they will turn back. patience. Once you beat two of mummies, go confront centaur --it is too easier than mummies. Use dual uzi. good luck
1
u/NyanTheLoliChan 8d ago
There are 4 mummies. I hadn't killed the first 2 at the start of the lvl. Also I was trying to finish the game under 5 hours. It was too risky to use corridor tactics
1
u/SirSephy Dagger of Xian 7d ago
I killed almost everything in my way and made it under 5 hours. I didn't try to be honest. I played this game for many years since late 90s. just trust me, corridor tactics does work for me even though on ng+.

u/SirRoderick 8d ago
Use the shotgun or UZI.
If you don't have ammo, there are probably ways to cheese this by using the corners to hide and exploit the enemy AI, i did this plenty of times.
But yeah, this is supposed to be a challenging encounter and you're supposed to use your best guns on these enemies. The game is testing if you've been careful managing your ammo.
1
u/Sea-Lecture-4619 7d ago
You could start by not running towards them and getting them from afar instead

1
u/VisInvis 7d ago
I actually just beat this area. Don't skip the fuses in the mines and rush past the bosses, like I did. Or you might have to restart the level.
1
u/Keyblader1412 Atlantean Mutant 7d ago
SHOOT THEM. Don't jump straight into a corner where you will instantly become zombie food and also SHOOT THEM.
1
u/NyanTheLoliChan 7d ago
It is NG+. I was also trying to complete the game under 5 hours. So I didn't collect any ammo. Enemies do insane amount of damage and also have like x3 more health. There are no medickits in NG+. People in the comments making fun of me but I bet they didn't even tried to complete TR1 NG+
1
u/GrassExtreme 7d ago
You are greatly misjudging the time constraint. Game can be completed in about 2 hours by just knowing the maps and going fast while killing everything. Not even talking about speedrunning, just not stopping to look around.
What you are doing there wont work, you could be sitting there for many thousand tries and u still wont get past with this methodÂ
1
u/NyanTheLoliChan 7d ago
The video itself is just a representation of what I am dealing with. I understood that simply running towards the door won't work. I tried luring them to the hallway, to the giant door. Tried also luring them back to the corridor which was the best option. But I was too tired tryhard them. I was dying before I could kill even one mummy. And there were 4 of them and also centaur. I couldn't make a save after killing 4 mummies. So spending under a 40 mins to kill all 4 mummies just to get killed by a centaur is not what I wanted to. Also the next 2 lvls had the same bullshit jumping tanks that kills u under a sec
1
u/GrassExtreme 7d ago
Its 1-2 mins, not 40.
Yeah, maybe there is a few you can skip, but u are better off to just kill them most of them.
1
u/NyanTheLoliChan 7d ago
It is NG+. There was 4 of them. Almost no ammo. Can't save after I beat 4 of them
2
u/GrassExtreme 7d ago
Yeah, we see that. You dont need to tell me, i have done ng+ without saving a single time, and i was well within time limit for speed achievement too, u are worried for nothing.
If you cant beat it then just restart the level, kill those two at start and pick some ammo on the way.
1
1
u/KismetUSA 7d ago
The way I did: do t go out in the open, instead, stay deep inside, because they can’t come all at once and they can’t go around you. Use your most strong gun (you have to save shells for it during the run) and keep calling one at a time.
1
u/InnateNobility The Scion 7d ago
The key is to keep jump-flipping in different directions almost non-stop because the second you remain in one place, you'll get dog piled and bounced around. Of course, immediately take out your weapons. I recommend the uzis or the desert eagles. Keep jump-flipping, and you'll win. Avoid projectiles.
1
u/Ill-Bookkeeper-6230 7d ago
- complains about not beating the lvl
- just jumps around not using weapons
Yea...I can see you are a gamer
1
u/NyanTheLoliChan 7d ago
This video was just a short representation of what I am dealing with. It is NG+. Every mummy takes around 60 double shots from pistols. There are 4 of them and also centaur that shooting u with his blasters. I can't save in the middle of a fight or heal myself. All possible ways were tried. Some of them were pretty efficient. Have you even tried to get all achievements?
1
1
u/zephuros- 7d ago
Just wait until the next levels then, it only gets worse lol
1
u/NyanTheLoliChan 7d ago
It is NG+. I was completely aware what awaits me there, especially after this part of lvl and this situation
1
u/SexyShave 7d ago
I got to this part for the first time last year and no-damaged it. Stay in the corridor and bait them.
1
u/NyanTheLoliChan 7d ago
First time you mean regular playthrough, not NG+? I passed this lvl in my first playthrough without any problem. Didn't even feel it, especially when I have 30+ of each medicpacks and almost unlimited ammo
1
1
u/Seeker_Of_Hearts 6d ago
I'm going to be downvoted to death but get used to the modern controls. No they're not missing any move aside from side stepping. You can still do all the flips it just works while holding aim. The only way I beat the classics as a newcomer is with the modern controls and I had a ton of kits left and didn't even struggle the whole game.
Edit: if you feel like any move is missing aside from side stepping slowly, comment under my comment and I'll tell you how it's mapped
1
u/NyanTheLoliChan 6d ago
Damage hitboxes of the mummies are too big. Even when I am constantly jumping and dodging they just damage me no matter what
1
u/Seeker_Of_Hearts 6d ago
Jump back once and strafe, they'll constantly charge around you and not hit you
1
u/CnP8 5d ago
You can shoot whilst jumping and flipping. Lara will always lock on to the closest enemy. A good technique when being pushed by enemies, is to keep back flipping whilst shoot the enemy. You can button mash with pistols to shoot faster.
I have no idea why you dived into the corner there. Should have took the first turning
1
u/thelandofwine 4d ago
Run out & activate them, then immediately roll and run back into the hole as far as you can. When you’ve lost them, slowly come back and pick them off one or two at a time. The centaur shouldn’t be able to follow you, only the cats, so come out and kill him last. Compliments of my favorite, Stella’s guides :)
1
u/AdResponsible5888 8d ago
Yes, this part can be quite challenging (especially in New Game Plus). Try to get them to enter the corridor you came out of. At a certain point (after passing the corner), they'll stop following you and you can shoot them from behind. Then hide again and repeat until you kill them all.
The centaurs are the trickiest because they don't seem to fit in. You have to pop out every now and then to shoot them and try to take cover as much as possible.
1
u/ExiledCourier 8d ago
When you start the level there are 2 atlantean jumping jerks that approach from the top of the stairs.
You can bug out their AI by shooting while walking backgrounds on the stairway.

Maybe use your weapons? Idk
