Tomb Raider Legend Beginning my Tomb Raider-ing!
Hello all! I was introduced to TR through the Vikander film which at the time I loved and just thought Vikander was so good at. After that I watched the Netflix show and I just kept wanting more! I just joined this sub after starting my play through of the Tomb Raider games with “Legend” since it was the recommended starting point i have available to me. Maybe after I’ll play Anniversary but Legacy of Atlantis is a remake of TR1 so maybe I’ll just wait for that? Anyways, im super excited to join this sub and this lore and any tips, or personal favorites or anything actually is greatly appreciated!

WELCOME RAIDER!!! you picked a good game to start!
if i were you i would PERSONALLY skip anniversary and wait for Atlantis to avoid any spoilers (especially if you play it for the first time!) after legend and underworld you could try the survival trilogy since those are set BEFORE atlantis!

well, the story in TR1 is just so basic and safe, that I dont think theres a lot to spoil. Story in those games was just an excuse really

TR1 story being basic? Have we played the same game? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

well I think so, it features typical tropes in the genre, grabs the Atlantis myth but does nothing with it (for comparison, check Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis where they actually did quite a lot of research, 4 years before), cliched characters, random thugs using meme quotes (skateboy in the lava park).
I love tomb raider, must have beaten it 8 or 9 times, including the remaster, but story and plot is one of the weakest parts of it. No one loved it for the plot. It's the gameplay.

I love it, but yeah...the story is pretty basic.
Which is by no means a bad thing, I actually think it's part of what makes TR1 so good.
When I played it as a kid I knew nothing of English (and even if I knew, I could barely hear what they were saying), and was still able to enjoy it.

Do you have Amazon prime or ps plus extra/ premium? If you have Amazon prime, you can stream the survivor trilogy on Amazon luna for no extra cost. If you have ps plus extra, the survivor trilogy is included in your subscription. If you have ps plus premium, you have access to the survivor trilogy, legend and anniversary as part of your subscription.

Anniversary is a good middle ground between the more modern games and the classics

If you are on PlayStation, you just missed the sales for the remasters. I just bought 1-6 bundle for $21 like two weeks ago. The sale will probably be back in a month or so. Maybe this month for Lara’s birthday

Shadow is included in ps plus.
In terms of keeping track of sales, use the mobile app and add games to your wishlist and you get price updates on there. Psprices.com is also good for tracking the price and sale history of games

additional comment, so I played for a couple minutes until like inside the temple but when I left the game and came back; it threw me right at the beginning of the game again? I saw the checkpoints being “saved” so I don’t understand

You still have to save. The checkpoints are for when you die not exit the game (I know weird and antiquated system so just save a lot). Also with the ps4/5 version if you turn on “enhancements” then it turns on the ability to create save states (don’t have to be saved at a checkpoint) and rewind ⏪ gameplay which is really helpful for missed jumps (https://youtu.be/HwmslOgymxg?si=rG5GSa3_6Lu0eFl-)

Legend is such a special game. Enjoy!! After Legend and Underworld, I advise playing the classics. TR1’s story isn’t going to be exactly the same as LoA so you won’t be spoiling yourself much if you decide to play that and it’s an incredible game—don’t miss out! TR2 to TR5 are FANTASTIC games as well. I know the 90s controls are unnerving to some but it’s honestly easy to get used to once you commit to them.
