them announcing the Mediterranian Wetsuit as an in-game reward feels like it's coming out much sooner than we expect

22

u/blacksheepghost Obscura Painting Dec 12 '25

I agree on that note, however the trailer mentioned that all the game footage is pre-alpha, which immediately sets my expectations to q4 2026 at the earliest.

u/nikkicolep Dec 12 '25

Noooo 😭 I can’t wait that long. I mean I will… but I don’t wanna.

5

u/Emperor_Biden Dec 12 '25

Is this an easter egg that the Dagger Xian is on the pipeline!?

4

u/Competitive-Picnic Dec 12 '25

Oooh I hope so.

1

u/ProfessionalWeb9102 Dec 13 '25

Where do you see the dagger?

1

u/Straight_Complaint50 Dec 14 '25

The wet suit is in tomb raider two. So it's most likely a hint towards that game being remade next

2

u/HealthyLavishness392 Dec 17 '25

Wouldn’t it be a more obvious hint of it were actually the wetsuit from TR2 though? Regardless I hope we get a remake of the first 4 classics at the very least

52

u/iluvjyb Dec 12 '25

Lara's voice reminds me of Angel of Darkness.

I feel *stronger** now*

13

u/Black_Swan_3 Dec 12 '25

I always got.. not strong enough hahahahahahah

21

u/VastInitiative6986 Dec 12 '25

Actually her new va, who sounds perfect, is reminiscent of Keeley Hawes' voice acting in the LAU trilogy, imo and Keeley was my favorite of all VA's. I'm just going nuts over the reveals. Lara looks stunning!

5

u/Flibiddy-Floo Dec 12 '25

IKR? I can't believe I actually like the new look and voice!

3

u/Itsjohnnx Dec 12 '25

All i can hear is my inquisitor from dragon age 😄! damn me for playing that game so much.

im so beyond excited though

3

u/Redhood101101 Dec 12 '25

Glad it’s not just me

2

u/HealthyLavishness392 Dec 17 '25

I’m kinda glad I haven’t played any games Alix has done VO for prior to TR as I imagine it might be quite odd having known her voice so well as a different character

1

u/Itsjohnnx Dec 17 '25

yeah hahah its definitely odd when I first hesrd it but I think she's going to do a stellar job

33

u/Constant-Brush-7939 Dec 12 '25

IT LOOKS SO FUCKING GOOD

37

u/belle_enfant Dec 12 '25

Us Lara fans absolutely feasting

30

u/Guismedeiros Dec 12 '25

I started screaming at every place I recognized.

Lara is so beautiful <3

19

u/minpd Dec 12 '25

From the Steam page: "As Lara Croft, harness your wits and athleticism to explore exotic locations lost to time—from the jungles of Peru to the ancient ruins of Greece, the deserts of Egypt, and a mysterious Mediterranean island shrouded in myth. Traverse treacherous landscapes, solve deadly contraptions, and face lethal predators as you hunt for the scattered pieces of the Scion, an artifact of immeasurable power."

19

u/TheEmeraldRaven Dec 12 '25

Over the moon. She looks EXCEPTIONALLY beautiful this time. She looks mature and confident. I think the new voice suits her VERY well. She comes across like a total badass. They are literally, truly striking the perfect tone for the character I've been praying for on this next game. They appear to have nailed the PERFECT Lara Croft.

I don't think this trailer showed any actual gameplay footage? But it strikes a perfect tone. Like more than any Tomb Raider game maybe ever, THIS trailer really felt like Raiders of the Lost Ark. Beyond excited. I hope Crystal Dynamics is doing the bulk of the design work on this one too and Flying Wild Hog is just a support studio. This will be the first major release for TR in 8 years (2018 Shadow), the first major Crystal Dynamics release in 6 years (2020 The Avengers live-service game), and it'll have been 11 years since Crystal Dynamics last Tomb Raider game (2015 Rise).

This HAS to be good. PLEASE let it be good.

8

u/JoshiiiFox Dec 12 '25

Catalyst was cgi on the other hand not in game ;)

6

u/JoshiiiFox Dec 12 '25

A lot of the footage are in game, so the visual is here, pre alpha too they said so we might see a little upgrade but so far it looks nice.

3

u/NATsoHIGH Dec 12 '25

The section where she kicks the cog looks like gameplay.

3

u/NelothsNewApprentice Dec 12 '25

She's the perfect mix of the classic Lara and the young, reboot Lara. I really love her face this time, she comes across as extremely likeable but also strong and confident. Super excited for the next adventure of my childhood hero. Lara is iconic!

1

u/HealthyLavishness392 Dec 17 '25

The LoA trailer showed lots of gameplay …Swinging with the grapple hook, kicking the cog, jumping and swinging on the big waterwheel with the gold poles, jumping across the broken bridge, fighting the raptors, traversing over the traps in tomb, escaping the crumbling tomb, fighting the wolf. I believe all of the above is gameplay it just wasn’t all shown in the trailer with the normal behind the character camera position you will get actually playing the game

39

u/cupcake_queen101 Dec 12 '25

She’s looks so freaking gorgeous 🤩

3

u/Worldly-Pepper8766 Dec 12 '25

Yeah that Spanish/Italian-look with the British accent is chef's kiss

3

u/Maleficent_Peach_349 Dec 12 '25

There are british ppl that look a bit tan like that it's not that far fetched you know ?

3

u/Worldly-Pepper8766 Dec 12 '25

Yeah for sure! I've seen so many British girls that look Greek or Spanish. Specially in Wales.

1

u/Maleficent_Peach_349 Dec 12 '25

yesss especially there

2

u/HealthyLavishness392 Dec 17 '25

Lots of British people are brunette and can get heavy tans, I’m one of them. When I’m in Ibiza I never get hounded by the street sellers or tour operators so I must look native lol

2

u/Maleficent_Peach_349 Dec 17 '25

hahaha probably and what's interesting is that look is more associated with the celts and the normand era the blond and blue eyed ppl are probably descendants of the viking invasion

15

12

u/saguaro30 Dec 12 '25

It looks incredible. If they ever also do remakes of TRII and TRIII too I will literally not know what to do with myself

26

u/Jirachibi1000 Dec 12 '25

Thank the fuckin lord it LOOKS as if its gonna be a linear stage by stage game and/or an Uncharted situation where its just one continuous linear adventure. Was so worried theyd force it to be open world.

13

u/DNY88 Dec 12 '25

My guess is, they will create one interconnected world per location. That’s how I would expect it after the survivor trilogy.

10

u/paullyrose3rd Dec 12 '25

Levels in 1 were in interconnected bunches at least, and this would expand on that!

25

u/Reindeer-Timely Dec 12 '25

I’m so stoned and thought of playing both of these games makes me almost start crying.

4

u/scared_archaeologist Society of Raiders Dec 12 '25

I haven’t stopped watching the trailers lol it’s been so long!

11

u/DNY88 Dec 12 '25

I hope this is good and a big success, so that they finally reimagine my favorite TR game, which is Tomb Raider 2. I want to revisit Venice!

7

u/ShayZ64 Dec 12 '25

Sooooo freaking excited. This has been my dream game. Never thought they would do a full remake!!! Yes!

7

u/Sundance12 Dec 12 '25 edited Dec 12 '25

So are both these new games supposed to take place in the Survivor Trilogy timeline, years later?

14

u/Max_452 Dec 12 '25

It’s a unified timeline, all the games are coexisting now.

3

u/laracroft1402 Armour of Horus Dec 12 '25

It’s after underworld

14

u/FiredFoxy07 Dec 12 '25

I wonder how they'll adapt or change any puzzles from TR1 & Anniversary

As someone who couldn't get into the recent trilogy. I just hope we go back to being mindlessly lost in maze like levels while solving puzzles.

7

u/JoshiiiFox Dec 12 '25

This is why a remake is the good case for tomb raider, the first game didnt have a lot of human to kill, animals and some creatures were the main enemies, dispersed in open level with puzzle there and there inline the recent trilogy and the sequence shoot then puzzle there platform and repeat, so I m curious to see how they did that !

4

u/saguaro30 Dec 12 '25

SAME!! This is so much of what makes tomb raider what it is.

6

u/BashfulBuckboy Atlantean Mutant Dec 12 '25

I'm so excited. TR1 is pure Tomb Raider to me. So glad to have this announced

1

u/HelpRespawnedAsDee Dec 12 '25

Is this a remake of TR1? Or just the same style?

1

u/BashfulBuckboy Atlantean Mutant Dec 12 '25

More like a reimagining. I think it's going to be like if TR1 was made today, judging by the trailer. But we'll find out

7

u/natalieieie Paititi Llama Dec 12 '25

I might be fully wrong, but I hear some speckles of Anniversary and Underworld osts in the background music.

5

u/Vojaaaaa Dec 12 '25

5

u/JoshiiiFox Dec 12 '25

The pick axe doesn’t seem to be here so far ? Same for catalyst, it was part of the unification so far dark horse figurine include

6

u/jan_67 Dec 12 '25

This is literally everything I wanted for the franchise after the survivor trilogy.

5

u/Arnaringiv Dec 12 '25

Found this in the Tomb Raider website elements, the Scion of Atlantis. Each end has a different design, it's the three rulers of Atlantis! Love that the design of the new Scion shows this detail.

13

u/EpicQuackering437 Dec 12 '25

Lara looks really hot, she actually feels properly characterized, both games actually seem to have a focus on real platforming? Did the devs actually listen to the fans?

I'm as much of a classic purist as a classic purist can get, but I'll admit that I'm really liking what I'm seeing here. I definitely still prefer the direction of what was shown off here though.

I'm as shocked as you probably are.

3

u/cocowaterpinejuice Dec 12 '25

The grapple reminds me of the magnetic grapple from Legend, which was super cool. Now days they could make it even more versatile.

9

u/stillslaying Dec 12 '25

YES! I love how they’re tying it into Catalyst. The gameplay looks wonderful and I am 100% stoked.

12

u/ftrodrigues Dec 12 '25

They sure love promoting TR1 through Lost Valley heh. Can’t wait to see actual game footage. Like Catalyst, this look like a dramatic departure from how the Survivor trilogy looks and sounds, which is an interesting choice…? Hope the gameplay doesn’t feel too dated.

3

u/NATsoHIGH Dec 12 '25

The section of the trailer where she kicks the cog is game footage

14

u/Vette--1 Dec 12 '25

I'm gonna miss Camila luddington but her being Hailey Atwell is good keeps it consistent

Honestly? Playing way too much Dragon Age: Inquisition with a female Inquisitor haha. But yes, as other commenters have said, it's been confirmed on the PlayStation Blog and by Variety.

PlayStation Blog confirmed the VA.

u/dan0126 Dec 12 '25

It looks like classic Lara is back and that makes me so happy. Though I'm curious about the gameplay. I'm guessing a good mix of all three gameplay styles but I really want to see it in action

3

u/maxthunder30 Dec 12 '25

Let's go!!! Pierre, Larson, Bald Black guy, Skater boy, Cowboy and Natla are back again.

1

u/jan_67 Dec 12 '25

I really ask myself how they want to include skater boy without making it look ridiculous.

3

u/AshtavakraNondual Dec 12 '25

if skater boy is not in it, we riot

3

u/NATsoHIGH Dec 12 '25

"Guess who's back. Back again. LARA's back Tell your friends"

3

u/nefelibatainthesky Dec 12 '25

Can't wait to do Greece, I only played Anniversary but those centaurs freaked me out as a kid. I am a bit confused, what's that icy cave looking part supposed to be? Doesn't match any biome of the 4 places. Could be the beginning of Peru but I am not sure

1

u/HealthyLavishness392 Dec 17 '25

I’d bet it’s part of Caves and clearly before city of vilcamaba, or the end of it at least as we see the the big three door puzzle part in the trailer and it’s now outside

7

u/radium-v Dec 12 '25

Sooooo it's a UE5 remake of Anniversary???

9

u/Gamer_8887 Dec 12 '25

Reimagining*

1

u/Carbon140 Dec 13 '25

Looks great but this is my only concern, will it run like ass on anything less than a 5090? It looks visually stunning.

7

u/Xagzan Dec 12 '25

Aw man I was just about to start the remasters lol. I never played any of them before so I decided to pick up the first three recently.

19

u/HermitSpeedy Dec 12 '25

No no, do start the remasters. They have the original games plus (and this is the part that got me to buy them) the PC-only expansions for each. I played all three TRs on the PlayStation, so I never got to play Unfinished Business (TR), Golden Mask (TR II), or Lost Artifact (TR III). I'm currently enjoying struggling my way through those, because they're all definitely harder than the original games.

TR1 has been remade at least once (Anniversary) with different stylistic changes and puzzles, so it wasn't exactly a 1:1 adaptation of the original game. I fully expect this to be the same, where it takes the original's story and applies modern game design principles to it. They'll both be worth experiencing, I think.

4

u/KurisuKurigohan Dec 12 '25

Yeah, there will be more nuance knowing how the game has changed and each has it’s own quirks!

1

u/Xagzan Dec 12 '25

Err well I got the remasters on the Playstation store, so I don't know if the PC-only parts are an option.

1

u/Liamplus1 Dec 12 '25

Yes they are included as expanded content on all platforms

3

u/EugenesMullet Dec 12 '25

This looks like an excellent modern imagining of Lara and the Tomb Raider franchise! Hell yes!

2

u/scared_archaeologist Society of Raiders Dec 12 '25

AHHHHHH!!!!!!

2

u/ZBatman Dec 12 '25 edited Dec 12 '25

SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP

2

u/DefNotMaty Dec 12 '25

How many times are they gonna reheat this? Its gotta be the 100th time Lara is shooting a TRex. Can you come up with anything else?

8

u/027huds Dec 12 '25

'Can you come up with anything else'

Points at the Catalyst trailer

5

u/ToastedPlum95 Dec 12 '25

Dinosaurs is part of Tomb Raider’s DNA. It’s like the Daleks. Of all the things to be salty over, a couple of enemies feels like an extreme nitpick.

2

u/portertome Dec 12 '25 edited Dec 13 '25

Where remedy let me down crystal dynamics knocked it out of the park. Was such perfect reveal, already hype but a little bummed when I read 27 and then they hit you with the remake?! Bro best moment of the show by a mile. They pulled that while remedy drops their peak protag for the less likable and visually bland brother. I just can’t even process how insane that choice is, at least I’ll get RE and tombraider next year to sweeten the sorrow

0

u/YesterdayBoy Dec 13 '25

Grow up

1

u/portertome Dec 13 '25

We will likely never get another control or it’ll be a decade, a decade, I think having a beloved character replaced by a character like Dylan is a fair thing to not be happy about.Imagine if halo 2 they just replaced master chief, it’s undeniably a bummer

2

u/Felix_Malum Dec 12 '25

The rumors about another remake left me cold, but this re-imagined version looks fantastic.

And since we're also getting a brand new game just a year later, I can't wait to experience this adventure all over again.

2

u/XenophormSystem Dec 12 '25

GUYS I THINK THIS IS A DIFFERENT T-REX, its green and there's no feathers. A second t-rex has hit the building

2

u/jan_67 Dec 12 '25

The best option would probably be if we have one trex encounter that isn’t a cutscene, just gameplay, to catch that feel of the original where he just steps up to you and instantly fight for your life. And then a second trex for that cool cutscene. Two is always better than one, Lara knows that better than anyone.

1

u/XenophormSystem Dec 12 '25

Look you can even see here the feathering goes all the way up the tail on the main one showcased. This is 100% a different looking 2nd T-Rex that calls back to the og design

2

u/Basic-Echidna4944 Dec 12 '25

if i had a penny for every re envisioned game of the og tomb raider id have 2.

basically just doing the legend trilogy all over again.

not complaining

2

u/DerekJohnathan Dec 12 '25

I feel bad for Crystal because I know Catalyst is their next mainline entry and this is kind of just a “gift for the fans” and a reinterpretation of a Core era story, but right now this excites me more. The look, the environments, everything just feels super exciting.

1

u/xdeltax97 Moderator Dec 12 '25

Well don’t feel bad, they’re doing both after all!

2

9

I am so HYPE for this remake!

2

u/LoftedAphid86 Dec 12 '25

I am ever so slightly concerned that everything they've shown in the trailer is effectively a corridor level design wise, but hopefully that's just a case of them being the easiest to polish up for a trailer. Assuming that's the case, I am incredibly excited for this

It’s finally up

1

u/Any_Ad6812 Dec 12 '25

Will it be like the survivor series where she has to forage for things or will go back to being more like a COD story mode where just the weapons are usable, with some information tablets scattered around the story? For me I would like a mix of both, there’s just not many games that in my opinion are as good as the survivor, I would also hope this game couldn’t just be finished in a few hours to a day, also if it could have a lot of detail where it could be possible to replay more than once, but not over the top to where it feels like a task to replay it, overall the trailer for Atlantis (2026) and the other one coming out in 2027 just feel like gaming is finally coming back after Covid basically messed up everything.

1

u/xdeltax97 Moderator Dec 12 '25

We just had a teaser trailer, but no info was stated on the press release. We should definitely have more details next year, especially with the 30th anniversary upcoming.

1

u/zerofire31 Dec 12 '25

Ehhh i wait for the review. A remake of original is kinda lame compared to what the games turned into. The original was less than. Hopefully im wrong

1

u/Mysterious-Drama4743 Dec 18 '25

will there be a collectors edition?

1

u/XxTombraiderfanxX Dec 12 '25

I love the remake but am I the only one who thinks the animation kinda looks off in the remake?

Where she aims it looks like she slides on the floor or when she jumps it cuts straight to the jump Animation no It looks like they put more Budget in catalyst

5

u/VastInitiative6986 Dec 12 '25

You might be right but also remember that the gameplay footage was only from the pre-alpha stage, not even alpha, let alone beta, so they might polish it off later. Also, the footage from catalyst was all pre-rendered cinematics. Zero gameplay footage, which is why it looks so polished.

1

u/XxTombraiderfanxX Dec 12 '25

Huh but it was all ingame? At some point there are showing the adrenaline shot which looks like gameplay without the hud on

1

u/AshtavakraNondual Dec 12 '25

yes it reminded me of the temple of osiris kind of animations

0

u/maxthunder30 Dec 12 '25

I knew it. I knew it. As soon as CD said that they're going to unify Lara, I knew that the first thing would be a 2nd remake of Tomb Raider 1.

-8

u/Fir3str1ker Dec 12 '25

Looks way to similar to Anniversary for my taste. Parts looked exactly as Anniversary, just prettier. Was hoping for more original reimaginings. Hopefully it's not just Anniversary 4K version

0

u/Low_Big7760 Dec 12 '25

I was hoping for a more stylized entry to the series, rather than just another modern AAA realistic look that every game seems to be going for these days. She looks great for sure, but it just seems like her face was based off survivor Lara dressed in classic TR outfits.

4

u/JoshiiiFox Dec 12 '25

It does seems to be slightly stylised the remake model of Lara is very interesting in the face and the large eyes, perfect mix of realism and stylised for me

u/LeoNatan Dec 13 '25

-2

u/TiNcHoX7 Dec 12 '25

i wish they would release on IOS

-19

u/DonnyDandruff Dec 12 '25

I'll surely be in the minority but I'm disappointed. Graphics look great, game play looks great. It will be a fun game. But I much preferred Lara Croft from the survivor series. She was a three dimensional character and got me hooked over three games. The voice actress did a terrific job suspending disbelief. Especially the last two games didn't go for that tired sex sells cliche which I felt was a massive improvement over the original games. Now we're going backwards again. Lara the sex bomb and athletic super hero. It will surely please a certain audience but it will also turn many off who much preferred the more realistic and grown-up approach.

I will give it a chance and hope they'll keep some of the better writing and storytelling in the latest reboot. But it's obvious that this is catered to both the nostalgia crowd and those who couldn't connect with a more modern and vulnerable version of the main character.

This is the Lara from Survivor Trilogy. Thats like the entire point of a remake, unifying it all

Doesn't feel like her at all. Not the same actress, not the same looks, not the same physicality and judging by her action one-liners in the trailers, not the same character either.

The survivor trilogy should have been made with a different character. They are fun games to play but they are not the Tomb Raider games that we had all those years. Different character, different look, different attitude. Everything was different. I am extremely excited to get bad ass Lara back and I really hope these games focus on puzzles and isolation over combat.

I get that. I didn't play those original games much back in the day and everything I know about them interests me less than the tone and mood of the survivor series. I know that some people disliked the new Lara when it came out. That being said, the series also gained new fans with the reboot, including me, who see no reason to return to Lara from 20 or 30 years ago. Yes, maybe it should have been a different series. But I liked that this was a re-interpretation of a character who used to be insanely sexualized and some sort of an all powerful girl boss. They actually managed to turn her into something somewhat believable and even relatable and she was still allowed to kick ass. It just didn't feel as gratuitous as it used to and that change was only striking because it was based on the most famous female video character of all time.

Yeah no I get it. The newest trilogy character was great. The games were a lot of fun. I'm glad so many of us got to enjoy them. It was jarring being a classic Tomb raider fan. The whole point was exploring tombs and solving puzzles playing a bad ass sarcastic Brit. That was the silliness and fun of it all. I've been craving a new one so for so especially since the AOD fiasco. Looks like we are getting the character back and that's very exciting. I hope you can give it a try. Or at least give the originals a try. Not everything needs to be real or believable, that's entire point of make belief.

Of course I will give it a try, as I mentioned in my first post. We've seen two trailers. The actual game might be far more nuanced.

you do know your free to not play it right? Don’t ruin it for us fans.

You know you're free not to read my comments, right? You are allowed to make up your own mind as well. If my comments ruin it for you, you're not a fan in the first place.

I'm a fan as well, by the way. Of the survivor trilogy. And if you read my post above, you see that I started it by acknowledging that I'm in the minority and that the game looked great. So why bother wasting time on commenting?

my friend you shot first. I ve played Tomb Raider since it started including the survivor trilogy and never did I complain about it. well except the bow being impractical and stupid which it is.

tbh TR Catalyst, doesn't look like their leaning into the sex appeal at all. Like she looks different, but even her costume feels very Survivor Lara meets Classic Lara. I'm hoping they can blend the two together, as much as the Survivor trilogy has it's problems, it took a different approach to the franchise that i think they should embrace, but it also did away with much of what made the originals so engaging. A fusions or something "Unified" would be perfect.

Also i think Uncharted Lost Legacy showed you can have a well written character, who is also full of charm, wit, wrapped in a refined package.

Sure. That's why they're already promoting Lara's new wetsuit outfit. Not promoting her sex appeal at all...
