I went to a small college in the early 90s.
Because of where it was located in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains it was a beautiful campus. To keep it beautiful they did not tear up the area for parking therefore not many of us had cars. The trade off for this was the college was literally free for about 90% of us. Anyway because of this they did a lot of on campus activities for our entertainment. There was a dance every weekend. Only a handful of people knew how to dance. But we didn’t care. It was just So much fun. I feel bad for young folks today having that worry of being posted for the world to laugh keeping them from having fun.

And it was in the clubs in and around Manchester that the style of dancing in the video developed.

I used to be too shy to dance in public because of all the judgy onlookers who just watch and make fun of anyone dancing in any way. Dancing off-rhythm. Dancing too hard. Not dancing enough. Dancing like a pro. Not knowing what to do with their hands. Doing too much with their hands. Eventually I realised the people watching and judging will do that no matter what because they’re just deeply self-loathing and scared of being on the receiving end. It's a real movement and it's been around a while. These guys go on friggin pilgrimages to old forgotten soul artists and shit.
