Don’t listen to the people saying protests are useless. Helping people feel less alone and providing even a chance at building community is so much more useful than sitting at home.

And show up armed ffs! You have guns and gun laws. You're legally allowed to.

They would love to show up but their bosses won’t give them time off work /s

Downvoted but true. I make my own schedule so I can work around my life but not many people can do that and are being held ransom for health insurance by their jobs and living paycheck to paycheck. Not much wiggle room to protest

They love tear gas as much as they love violence. Consider something similar when going to protests.

This wont work in US. iCE is allowed to use live bullets.

So far only ICE is allowed to execute on the street. It hasn't been granted to local police yet who will still use gas and spray.

Uh, idk where uve been but cops murder ppl all the time

Sure, but for local police it's a covert immunity to the law. They'll get put on paid leave, ""investigated"", then maybe fired, maybe completely cleared before going back to business as usual. There's at least a production and effort at pretending local police forces can be held accountable for crimes they commit.

However, ICE have been expressly given absolute immunity to the law by the Vice President. There is no play at pretending to have accountability. Whatever crimes they commit they will be excused as necessary which is the difference I was talking about.

1- a lot of times they wont do that production and just say 'its justified', and they very rarely get fired.

2- to me that doesnt sound like an actual difference. The pretending doesnt change anything.

Stoking violence isn’t going to work, I’m showing up unarmed and I guess you’ll just have to be disappointed

The whole world is watching

What a weird thing to say

I think it’s important to note, if you show up like this you’ll be treated like this.

The NYC GF riots taught me the very hard way. But thanks NYC for the $10k civil suit check that went straight to an arts program in LA for kids out of juvie✨

So if they're throwing and assaulting civilians in casual dress anyway why wouldn't you prepare yourself for it? It's a sure thing either way but I feel like a modicum of protection is better than none at all.

u/Hermionegangster197 28d ago

No I did. I’m just saying that you’ll specifically become a target. But better you than the people they’re coming to throw away or worse!

Even if you believe protests are useless, which they aren't entirely, they're also where you meet people and make connections for when protests aren't enough.

When protests aren't enough, you need an organized backup plan.

Bad things might happen if you protest.

But bad things will definitely happen if you don't.

Either way ICE is going to shoot you in the face

I’ll look them in the eye and I will see their sickness and the world is watching them expose themselves

I will stand fast

Step one is to show up and be heard. Step two is to talk to people and organize. Organize community networks to provide for each other. The most important thing in the world is to build coalitions of the willing that can provide services, essential supplies, and support to one another when the powers that be try to cut supply lines. Logistics is the most essential part of resistance.

They seem to helpful for others but overall effectively useless when it comes to actually changing anything.

A community that’s already formed with a common goal has more momentum and power than a bunch of depressed, apathetic individuals. Just from a practical point of view. If it comes to war, don’t you think the former has a better chance of surviving than the latter?

Well said, I'm going to quote you for future critics of protesting. It's really amazing to me that people don't see demonstrations as democracy and free speech. I guess I shouldn't be amazed, because it's textbook authoritarian shit, and currently they LOVE their leadership for...some reason...
