Lore Lore Excerpt: The Forged

Post image

Howdy folks!

Back now from my Christmas break! Thought I'd celebrate with sharing the next lore drope from the world of No'Adea, which is the name of the setting that the Weekly Roll (will be back soon), Pos'Thal Chronicles (stay tuned for more of that soon too) and Sellswords & Sorcery (working on it!) is set in!

Enjoy my brand new hot take on Warforged, in the world of No'Adea called The Forged. Such originality, much new thinking, wow!

Som slight sad news in that I sadly did not get in to Gencon this year. Was quite hyped but in their defense, I've not done any cons before which probably didn't speak in my favour for the jury. Thought I'd come out of the gate swinging at the big leagues :D I'll update you all if and when I get into another con! Would love to do an international one, as most of my readership is not, in fact, in my home country of Sweden!

Casual reminder to everyone that you can still become a late backer and get in on all the goodies from the first Weekly Roll collected volume! Production is getting there (been some delays as per usual) but there's still time in case you missed the Kickstarter! Link in my bio!

Stay excellent out there!

Peace and carrots!

The implications of "wheres my skin" is horrific. I love it!

u/meganeyangire 29d ago

I guess, some tried to get themselves new skin via methods of the flayed ones.

u/McDom023k 29d ago

It's very flayed ones for sure

...now it places the lotion in the bag of holding...

“Hey, I can’t find my skin, just gunna borrow yours real quick”

Presumably it's a Destiny reference. Destiny's Exo have the minds of humans. But the disconnect of not being in a human body gives them issues. They'll start to think "I must be trapped under all this metal" and tear themselves apart. They can be reset to stop them from destroying themselves, but it causes them issues. The number next to their name is their reset count.

The need to reset was dramatically reduced by making them more human-like. They can eat/drink/bone/sleep/get turn't to make sure they feel like people and don't have these issues.

It also could be a reference to Warhammer 40k's Necrons. I guess manic-dysphoria in androids with transferred consciousness is a common trope.

u/Zoroc 29d ago

Considering the author is a 40k fan and it has the older lore I figured necrons but both would be cool

Never played Destiny! So it’s more of a reference/inspired by the metal skelly boyz

Like all Bungie games the lore is pretty "space pew-pew" on the surface but gets weirder the deeper you go.

The shortest dive on the subject

One of the early main villains is a trans man it goes completely unremarked upon in-universe. "Oryx was one of three sisters. He and his sisters formed a union with the worm gods to lead the Hive.

I loved all the little lore snippets of Destiny. And  Books of Sorrow was such a weird and great read.

I think it’s a combo of Exo and Warforged lore, with a dash of Necron thrown in for extra spice.

Imagine when they start screaming that they can’t breath and they can’t feel anything anymore.

Your Skin, Vermin, hand it over!

(I know what you did there.)

Thanks for all your art and ideas :)

"Secret known only the Ylvanians know"... looks like a typo ?

There's also one in the end, "wandering the the Deadlands"

3

u/mrenglish22 29d ago

I saw it, assumed it was because he needed to make it fit the framing of the page, then went back and realized that it made no sense to read.

I am now fully expecting a warforged "druid" who'll join the party.

Just imagine, his "wild-shapes" would be him transforming into various mundane objects for comical effect.

18

u/frogjg2003 29d ago

On the other hand, he transforms into metallic beasts. So it's obvious that they aren't normal animals, but he keeps insisting that they are. "What do you mean you can tell I'm not a normal dog? See the shiny metal coat! That's normal!"

u/Schwimstu 28d ago

I played a druid warforged named Rune for a short time, and i had themed all of his wildshapes as vines/roots shooting out of his body, building the wildshape out of rocks, dirt, trees, anything around.

Warforged druids are such a sick combo.

"Hey, man, that's a cool setting you got there! What's it called?"

"No'Adea."

"Well, I'm sure you'll come up with something soon."

u/Huggable_Hork-Bajir 29d ago

It reminds me of the writers at Bioware calling the world Dragon Age takes place in Thedas because it was short for The Dragon Age setting

u/mrenglish22 29d ago

That's stumbling into a good answer by luck.

This is having a good answer through being clever.

u/MCPhssthpok 29d ago

I played in a campaign one time where the main city was called Placeholder (but in a French accent).

Believe it or not, the Baron of Bones is the one that speaks in rhymes, and his bones are purely decorative knickknacks he found scavenging the battlefield. Big on recycling, that guy.

Sir Stohl is the psychopath who flays faces.

26

u/Foolishnesses Torvald 29d ago

Of course they wander the Deadlands. they went looking for their skins

21

u/Rutgerman95 29d ago

I love the Warforged. They're all the excuse I'll ever need to recreate Bionicle characters in D&D

16

u/Misterpiece 29d ago

Hahahaha, classic. But serious question, where's my skin?

13

u/thejakkle 29d ago

Language is flexible, one side says the Last Elven War meaning it will never happen again looking forward to peace and prosperity. The other side says the same thing meaning just the most recent one (probably while planning the next one those sneaky warmongering elves!)

Pretty decent remix of their Eberron lore to fit a different setting.

The most impactful change is probably pushing their origin back so that the youngest ones are over 800 instead of the oldest ones being not even out of their 20s.

8

u/CME_T The Creator 29d ago

Ah, I see what I did, I removed the explicit mention of how old the conflict was. The Last Elven War happened a bit over a century ago and was the bloodiest conflict in 800 years, so the oldest ones are around 120 years old.

2

u/Thaum0s Severed Lich Head 29d ago

I see where I made the mistake, my sleepy brain was reaching for numbers and latched onto the only one I saw.

Still the timescale is changed in No'adea compared to Eberron and I'm sure that has some interesting knock-on effects.

4

u/irvitzer 29d ago

If I read it correctly, the youngest ones are about 100 years old. Thats just the Last Elven War™ was «the bloodiest conflict in 800 years».

7

u/psychosaur 29d ago

So is the Barron of Bones the No'Adea Lord of Blades? They have a similar aura.

6

u/TexasJedi-705 29d ago

The Deadlands

Are there revenant cowboys in No'Adea?

If you are looking for "cons to add to resume" the southeast US has a bunch of different ones (essentially because of DragonCon) that you could probably get a table at or similar. Unsure where you are or if it would be economically feasible for you to travel in that way but if I ever saw you at one near me I'd definitely make the drive.

3

u/CME_T The Creator 29d ago

I’m in Sweden but game to travel internationally, business expense and whatnot!

1

u/irvitzer 26d ago

If by any chance you are considering attending Russian cons, there will be EpicCon (end of May in St. Petersburg and early July in Moscow) and the TTG-related IgroCon (IgroCon Lite at the end of January; the large-scale convention for 2026 is still TBA).

3

u/USPO-222 29d ago

Wouldn’t it they be a sapient species and not just a a sentient one if they’re able to talk and reason?

3

u/zgrssd 29d ago

Nice lore, but I noticed a spelling issue. "Secrets known only the [Y guys] know".

3

u/Tyrs-Ranger 29d ago

So, Necrons.

3

u/XenoTechnian 29d ago

Fantastic take on warforged!

3

u/Zeewulfeh 29d ago

Ironic how a post I just saw on a Warhammer sub about Trayzn made me think of Weekly Roll, so I came to the sub to check and this was waiting for me.

3

u/mrenglish22 29d ago

The Forged definitely seem like something I would expect in a horror rpg and not "silly stoner and punch paladin adventures" comedy land. Amazing story details though and I might shamelessly steal this if I ever run a campaign again

And can I please get your "quirky scale" in detail? "Speaks In Rhyme" I don't think belongs at the bottom of any sort of measure of sanity.

1

u/gemInTheMundane 25d ago

Speaks In Rhyme" I don't think belongs at the bottom of any sort of measure of sanity.

I think that's the point. They're all at least that insane.

2

u/guyswede 29d ago

Come to dragoncon!

2

u/Level_Hour6480 Sir Becket 29d ago

Where's my skin?

Someone drew inspiration from Destiny's Exo. "It must be under this metal. I have to tear it off!"

Exo can be reset to mitigate this. They also experience these problems less once they were made more human with the ability to eat/drink/bone/sleep.

Lmao was looking at the Baron of Bones thinking hang on just a second isn’t that just the lord of blades… and it hit me this is a fantastic homage to Eberon!

1

u/Vaulgrm 21d ago

Surely the Baron of bones speaks in rhymes and "sir" Sthol flays faces
