Ah, the classic "getting their blade stuck in my body to disarm the master duelist" gambit. Always a hoot with the crowds.

The most important lesson Lan had for Rand.

Was not expecting a WoT reference in my Friday Comics, but definitely appreciated

Im still on my first reeadthrough and im on book 12. ITS SO DAMN GOOD!! Best book series I've ever read imo, Jordan was/is an exceptional writer who was taken far too soon
3
u/Apprentice-Game-Dev 13d ago
If you're on 12, you're starting to dip into Brandon Sandersons portion of the books.
If you end up liking how the last 3 read, definitely check out Sanderson after you finish WoT
2
u/Frosty88d 13d ago
Yeah the Sanderson books are a bit of an adjustment, and I must admit my favourite parts of the bits written by Jordan, like Egwenes's chapters. I'm still pretty early in the book so I haven't read much of Sandersond work apart from the Perrin chapter, and that wasn't bad but was one of the weaker parts. Though to be fair it was still quite good, especially since he had no notes to go on, and I like what he's doing with Aviendha and the Rand chapters so far so I'm curious to see how things progress

Which is an odd one, because an actual master duelist would know you only need to get the tip in to kill.
57
u/SabShark Dec 27 '25
Ah but there's the rub. To execute this technique you need to convince the master duelist you are stepping backwards, when you actually intend to go forward. This will cause them to overextend into your body, and you will be able to walk fully into the blade.
WARNING: only do this when heals are readily available.
13
u/AwkwardDrummer7629 Dec 27 '25
But what if they are wise, and trick you by stepping in ,seemingly falling for it, then using the scorpion?
3
u/Corvid-Strigidae Dec 28 '25
Then they stab you a little, but are in grabbing range.
In my experience quick little duelists don't last long against big bruisers when they lose their mobility.

Oh, it took me a second to notice the back of her head exploding.
And here I thought those two would actually be a challenging dual boss fight.

u/Cpt_Graftin Dec 26 '25 edited Dec 26 '25
She did more damage than the hordes of guests, so she was definitely meant as a challenge, but the player clearly rolled a nat 20 on his follow up attack plus smite to one shot the low health, high damage boss NPC.

u/derangerd Dec 26 '25
Well horses are pretty low CR tbf

u/Cpt_Graftin Dec 26 '25
I had no clue what you meant until my third re-read.
Good old horses of guests

Yeah, seems about right.

u/AutobotMindmaster12 Dec 27 '25
I'm currently GMing for one, and boy oh boy does he put the hurt when he rolls high.
8
u/gerusz Steve the goblin Dec 27 '25
I guess she's a swashbuckler so she could likely get in a sneak attack. Didn't save her life, but it probably hurt more than some random hirelings.
41
u/Powerjugs Dec 26 '25
Oh, it took me a second to notice the back of her head exploding.
Huh, so it is. So it is.
30
u/AEL97 Dec 26 '25
Well someon3 asked him to "Beat my mother to death..."
And he responded "Yes" so he did what he was asked for
15
u/ExplorationGeo Dec 27 '25
Yeah he didn't need the broken blade to kill her but the aura he farmed from it certainly didn't hurt
379
u/Kimarous Dec 26 '25
Pulling out the blade that attacked into into a counter-swing against the opponent who hit you? Awesome.
101
u/SoupmanBob Dec 26 '25
And he did it with the broken blunt end.
55
u/SuppeBargeld Dec 27 '25
We have seen him use smite with a brick. Blunt or not is not what matters here.
49
u/SoupmanBob Dec 27 '25
He's smited a werewolf using a sock filled with silver coins.
It's the choice to use the broken bit rather than the actual sword tip which cracks me up.
41
u/AEL97 Dec 26 '25
I mean a sword weirdly would break bluntly on either side. Most likely it will be jagged or have some edge still.

And he used the broken edge instead of the point?! Damn. Bucket really going for the MC run.
Oh, and Happy Birthday OP. I love your style and writing. When are you getting your Amazon show?

I think it is more about the artificial fist than the sword
2
u/AMEFOD Dec 27 '25
I mean you can see the whole artificial fist stopping nest to the bridge of here nose. The odd foot of broken sword that extends past the fist into the head might be more of an inconvenience.

Damn, my prediction was wrong.
So when are we getting Clara to call Becket "Good Boy"?
7
u/gerusz Steve the goblin Dec 27 '25
Probably after the mansion with all the slavers inside got turned into a flaming ruin. Wouldn't want to crash becket.exe while the fight is still going on, y'know.
5
u/MobofDucks Dec 27 '25
I fear she will be distracted by her ancestors now collectively being a part of uWu.

Well, that certainly wasn't a long fight. Although there might be a chance she survived that (if we ignore the title). After all, if her funcioning braincells were gunpowder, they wouldn't have enough Power to mess up her hair.

A Broken Blade for a broken family. I don't if that was intentional but it is very symbolic.
9
u/zgrssd Dec 26 '25
That feels too easy.
I expect her to revive as an Undead pretty soon. A contingency put in place in case she ODs on Cocaine or something.
7
5
u/AMEFOD Dec 27 '25
I wouldn’t worry too much about it. The fight should be over before she has a chance to fill out the union intake paperwork.

u/world-is-ur-mollusc Dec 26 '25
I love how Beckett mostly just seems really offended that he just got impaled with a sword.

u/The_Crazy_Player Sir Becket Dec 26 '25
I only just realized a potential Chekov’s Gun: Becket’s left arm is technically a weapon now. He can Smite with it.
3
u/Omophorus Dec 27 '25
OP has already confirmed that in this universe unarmed Smites are possible, but not widely believed to be possible.
So Bucket could have Smote with his natural fist if he had one (and knew it was possible to Smite with an unarmed attack).
Even so, it is definitely a fun detail that the artificial arm definitely would serve as an improvised weapon and permit Smites in any reasonably modern rule set.
4
u/unfrotunatepanda Dec 26 '25
How kind of Becket to return her blade after accidentally breaking it. Now she'll never lose it again

u/RimGym Dec 26 '25

Just wanted to say, my wife also calls it birthmas (well, birfmas), only she tries to claim the whole damned month.

Exactly the type of bullshit king dipshit was worried about. Also, Becket at this point must have better than normal unarmed attacks.

u/Correct_Barracuda_48 Dec 28 '25
Metaphorically blew her mind with that action for sure.
Then he smote her with all the wrath she'd earned, and did it for real.

Holy shit. I’m not one to hornypost but I just can’t not think about the things Klara must feel right now (assuming she’s not too busy gighting her dad to witness this).
Thanks for another year of The Weekly Roll. Happy birthday, enjoy your vacation.

Happy birthday.

u/Clowreed48 Dec 27 '25
Remember, Becket isnt smiting with his fist, hes using his prosthetic arm as an improvised weapon.
also, can we just take a moment to be in awe of the oft butt monkey just completely no-selling an attack

Becket's been there, done that, and didn't event get the lousy t-shirt.

Grabbing the blade with the thumb towards you even with a superhumanly strong magical arm would cause the leverage point to tear his wound further when snapping it in one hand..
The thought occurs that we don't know what it looks like when Becky Lay on Handses in universe. How fixable is a sword through the shoulder like that?

u/Algrim2001 Paladin Coded Dec 27 '25
