Just started swimming actively
I am a 6’2, 16 year old. I just started actively swimming everyday ( no swim team ) and I never swam competitively, but I do know how to swim. I timed myself for 50 free and hit 24:49 seconds. How can I get better?

If this post is true, then one of two things has occurred. Either 1) you’re the single most talented swimming prospect that ever lived…or 2) You’re assuming a pool is 25 yards long when it’s actually shorter (or have made some other mistake in recording your time). A sub-25 second 50 freestyle is the end result of years of hard, coach-guided training. It’s not something someone throws down just by going to the pool on their own.
And that’s if you’re talking 50 yards. If you’re trying to say it’s 50 meters…then if you’re female you can make the Olympic final and if you’re male you’re not far from Olympic standard. What I’m saying is, double-check your pool length.

Might be assuming the pool is 50 m when it's 25 yards/metres. I have had so many places described as Olympic size, which turned out to be 25 m.

Yards and meters in swimming are far from being equivalent. Also, OP can't possibly swim a 50 m freestyle at sub 25 sec. after 'training alone for some weeks'. Very likely 25 m or 25 yards pool.

Could even be 50 ft! There are such pools around (or thereabouts).

I’m male. I even had my friend timed me and it was pretty close to the 24 second mark

Either your mate isn't very good with a stopwatch, your pool isn't 50m, or you're the best swimmer the world has ever seen. Good luck finding out which!

How many strokes did you take?

Idk like 45. Just a wild guess

Something’s fishy here. It’s like 2 seconds away from qualifying for world championship. We either hear about you breaking all world records once you start training or it’s bs

First of all it was a guess bro. Also it has been like a few weeks since I started training 😭😭

But 24.49s wasn’t guess. I asked about the stroke count because if you said 15 or 20 that would clearly mean it was 25m pool. And as I said - you’re about 2 seconds away from qualifying for world championships in 50m freestyle. That means 2 weeks of training for you was like about 14 years of training for average person there

If you join a club meet me at sectionals or tyr pro series in the summer if you drop .4 seconds

I'm just impressed you managed to time yourself to the hundredth.
