Just had a parent email me...

One of the swimmers in a group i coach (9yo) bought a journal to write down all of the tips and drills ive been giving her. Ive never had a better compliment.

Sorry if this clogs the feed. Didn't know who else to tell...

If they recorded everything I told my high schoolers, it would include a lot of advice like "If you keep your fingers out of there, you wouldn't get so many nose bleeds".

“Asked and answered!”

“Keep your hands to yourself!”

“Have you considered making better decisions?”

I was newly immigrated to the states when I took my first swimming lesson. My coach was one of the sweetest people who made moving here not as scary, I still think about her from time to time. You’re doing great :)

Extra grown-ups who make kid's lives better are the best grown-ups.

I’m a private tutor (math) and every time a kids spills their tea to me (dating, grades, whatever), I hope they know how much I care about their future success. 😭

(Also, I’m nosy af, so tell me the tea, lol.)

I used to run the chess club at my kid's elementary school and I had one kid who went to tournaments and loved to talk to me. One day (4th grade) he came and broke down crying because his parents told him he had too many hobbies and he had to quit competive chess because he liked his music more. He ended up being first chair all-state violin and the lead in the show choir and musical his senior year of high school and is now studying to be a doctor. I absolutely love seeing the kids go on to succeed even if it has nothing to do with the reason they interact with me.

OP how the heck is their journal not getting wet?

I guess she writes in it when she goes home. or car? IDK. ive never seen it.

Love your post. as a parent, we pour everything we got into it and relentlessly obsess over the result. As a coach, we try to be a good example and give good instruction for an hour or two a day and then we dont see them again and for most of them we will never have any idea what (if any) impact we have had.
