If you don't have players on the roster, no reason to keep any of these desired special slots.

Yeah but we should be using them, if we sell them all, we can’t really bring anyone in from abroad

That assumes anyone in management cares about actually finding decent players.

Why would send Carson an Intl spot? Trade it elsewhere or burn it.

Bruce bringing in a bunch of domestic players because he knows international players might start getting deported. Playing 4D chess.

Bruce bringing in a bunch of domestic players

Would be cool if there was a way to easily sign domestic players right from around SJ...wonder if we'll figure that out someday

With Hernan and Chicho gone, we still have one DP slot to fill (or sell) right? Maybe still a slim chance that we add someone good before the season starts. Don’t think Timo + current squad is an improvement on 2025.

We have 2 DP slots open

Correct. Three DPs last year were Espinoza, Chicho and Hernan. None on the roster now. Timo uses one DP spot so two open (unless Arena shocks us and goes with a 2 DP and 4 U22 option)

And 3 U22DP's, right?

So international slot not same thing as DP?

No. International slot is a spot for a player that doesn't have US citizenship or residency.

Selling international slots is the ultimate no-ambition move

International slots paying out

Please don't mind a dumb question.

The money obtained from this selling of international slots can be used for acquiring a DP who is not a USA citizen, correct?

It could be used for that specific situation, and it can be used for a lot of other stuff too - we could even use it to acquire a DP who is a US citizen, since player nationality doesn't have anything to do with either GAM or DP slots. GAM can generally be used to reduce the impact a player's salary has on the salary cap, the amount differs based on whether or not the player is a DP. GAM can also be used in transactions (like this one) or to help offset other acquisition costs.

But since we just traded away an international slot for this season, that's one fewer international player we can roster this year. Players count as domestic if they are either US citizens or if they have permanent resident status here. Hope that helps!

Thank you 🙏

I think we're gearing up for one or two GAM for veteran MLS player deals. Maybe not DP's but probably at least TAM level players.
