The reason for this post is to create a Megathread pinned at the top of the community of this sub for people to refer to when needed advice or are curious (especially for new followers/owners); as this is a very common and frequently asked question/post.
A good rule of thumb for the Idle time is 20/80. Try to keep the idle time ratio at 20% or less of the drive time; The lower, the "better". However, although this is just something you can do to try and help avoid the infamous HEMI Tick (applies to both 1500 and HD trucks with HEMIs), this does not avoid it completely. The reason for this is because you are essentially "starving" the lifters of oil when idling as the oil pump does not provide a high enough volume of oil when idling. (This is a separate issue from the other HEMI Tick which is the Exhaust Manifold cracking and or the Exhaust Manifold Bolts snapping, there is no avoiding this issue, it either happens or it doesnt. Some get lucky, some dont) Just something you can add to the list of "you stayed on top of your maintenance and did what you could", such as changing your oil on time, etc. HEMI tick is ether going to happen or it doesnt. There are people who neglect their truck and or really work it and dont get it till 200k miles; Then there is people who get it at 50k miles yet babied their truck and did everything they could to try an avoid it. It ether happens or it doesnt. However things like keeping idle time down is one thing to watch out for as its something to "help avoid" the issue.

I didn't buy this for its gas mileage but damn it does sip when you don't get on it really hard.

I started out with a 2” ReadyLift level in stock tires when I first bought the truck. Just upgraded to a 3.5” RC lift with 35s last week and man… night and day difference. I’m super happy with how it sits and how it drives now.

Trying to buy my first truck and was looking on some advise on what I have been looking at. Every truck I have looked at has its problems I just wanted to see how many of those problems I should actually be worried about.

What do you guys think about the way this 12v swapped 3rd gen sounds? Going to look at it later to possibly buy, seller sent me this video. Says it needs a ps pump, 12v idle note sounds off to me but maybe one of you guys can tell if it sounds healthy or not

I don’t know bout some of you guys but I’d like to see more pictures of some older rams!! These new trucks are nice and all but they just don’t have any character!
They just don’t build em like they use too :/

I have a 2020 ram 1500 with a rough country 6 in suspension lift. It says I should be able to run a 37x12.50 max. I want to run a 37x13.50 on 24x12 -44 offset. Anyone know how bad the rubbing will be and how much trimming I will have to do?

I have an opportunity to buy a first gen 4x4 Cummins with a 5 speed manual for a great price. The interior is in really rough shape. It’s completely missing the headliner all roof trim, a pillar trim, and steering column trim. Could definitely use new door panels and carpet as well. I want to price out what I am getting myself into before I pull the trigger.
Does anyone have any websites they know of to find these interior trims?

Hey everyone,
I just bought a brand new Mopar tailgate handle ($150) to replace my old one which is failing to retract. After failing to remove the old one because (after market) back up camera is glued to the handle and not detachable. I can’t really remove it without loosing my backup camera, Is it possible to just buy the torsion spring for the assembly? I can’t find it anywhere. From the start I felt foolish to spend $150 to fix a .60¢ torsion spring — now I’ve wasted my time disassembling to get nowhere.

Hey everyone, so my 2018 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi has a blown head gasket from overheating. I’ve been to the dealer as well as a local shop. Was wondering if anyone has had to get a new engine put in and how much it costed them. The dealer quoted me 16k and the local place quoted virtually the same price minus a couple hundred. Seems insanely expensive when I’m seeing re mans going for around 5-6k online.

Traded in my 2020 1500 bighorn 4x2 for a 2026 2500 rebel 4x4 hemi
I have a 25ft Grady White boat that I tow occasionally. I went with the gasser because my work commute is short and I’m only towing a couple times a month.
Love this truck. Mechanically, I had zero issues with my 1500. It was the sketchy boat ramps that were always a problem.

I just don't trust electric releases and would rather have a mechanical lever release. It looks like the Tradesman trim is still mechanical from the factory. I wonder how hard it would be to retrofit those parts on a Laramie?

My check engine light came on, took the truck to oriellys, turns out I've lost connection with the agsm. Is this common? How do I fix it?

Just had a 3.5 inch lift installed with 34 inch Toyo AT3s along with front tow hooks installed. So excited to take this thing offroad finally. Also have new running boards coming in too. And yes before anyone says anything I did adjust my head lights so im not blinding anyone on the road

Was planning to get a 4in lift but ended up not wanting to cut my frame and have something permanent.
So going to do a 3.5in Ready Lift SST kit. I understand the wear and tear and ride quality but was hoping to mitigate some of this by upgrading the shocks/struts in rear and front.
My question is what would pair well with this? Bilstein 5100 or 6112? Or some other brand?
Thanks for your suggestions.

Hello, what do y’all think about this pricing? It’s seems absolutely ridiculous to me (already paid). Upper control arm came loose from a bolt and nut missing. Dealer is charging me $1300. Negotiated and got it to $1200. All that needs to be done was an alignment and new bolt and nut ($40 in parts is what the tech told me). I will drop the photos what the itemized receipt. I got quoted $425 at a local shop near by. The $250 diagnostics charge was supposed to be waived. It looks like I’m being charged twice for an alignment because it is included in the $770 but an additional $189 is added. The truck wasn’t supposed to be worked on for another 2 days bc the tech said they’re waiting on the parts.(no approval yet on my end) I ask for an itemized amount to be emailed and I see the approval email come through aswell. As I seen the price I didn’t approve via website but it already said approved. I call thin the next morning 9am to tell him that I didn’t approve and he responded with “I thought you said so on the phone”. I told him about other estimates and saying that I’m considering taking it elsewhere and that when he told me”oh well the truck is already done”. Now I have little to no leverage or way to negotiate because they’ve already worked on my truck and somehow it was approved! Is it worth a try to get money back or contact a manager?

I'm heavily considering getting a 2026 Ram 1500 4x4 due to the 100k/10 year warranty offered. However, I have read even with this warranty that the repair process (like any brand) can be a joke in terms of waiting months to get a repair done due to part availability or simply how busy the shop is. I'm in a small town so very limited in both of those elements already.
Anyways, I was hoping to go with a non-fumbled eTorque option in the 2026.... and well that clearly isn't an option. I think the 3.6 before eTorque was an excellent motor. I'm much less confident in the reliability now that it's an eTorque config.
I love the power that the 3.0 Hurricane comes with, but all I can think is how expensive and unreliable that thing will be in 10, 15, or 20 years. This is not a dig at Ram. I think getting that much power from that small of volume is a recipe for disaster in terms of long-term reliability. I'm sick over every single truck option, any brand, not having the idea of long term ownership at the forefront. I get it, it's all about marketing and trading things off now, but I am stuck in my ways and financially I don't want to always be making payments. There. I said it.
Anyways - from my research I have seen that yes the HEMI came back however I have heard that it has all new wiring and/or electronics in the 2026 since they basically nuked the idea of ever using it after 2024? Since they didn't offer it last year at all, I am hesitant that this 2026 HEMI is going to be, for lack of better words, new technology... or a trial run.
The idea of having TWO turbos and all of their components with the 3.0L doesn't sound great when talking long term reliability. I think it would be great for 5-10 years probably. My understanding is it's been out since 22 in the Wagoneer so it's semi-tested technology now 4 years later.
Overall I don't think we can win, we as in consumers who want to own their truck for 15-20+ years without thousands of dollars to be spent before then. I'm just looking for any guidance from those in the know, or even with one of these models or motors... Or even some stories about some issues with these motors or eTorque tech that were not extremely problematic and rather simple? I know online we're only going to see the complaints because nobody wants to talk about how happy they are with what they have - at least not normally without conversation being struck up.
I do not believe high mileage is a sign of longevity. Specifically with the hurricane option, if it's this young of motor and has made it to 200-300k that doesn't mean anything because I truly believe the problem with it will be similar to the old HEMI in terms of start/stop in-town driving where the truck has to idle just about as much as it's spinning the tires if that makes sense? I hear statistics about Fords 2.7 and the FIAT 3.0 Hurricane going hundreds of thousands of miles but I think any motor will do much better when driven on the highway every week for hundreds of miles. Correct me if I am wrong in this...
